maroontide06
Oak Grove was just so dominant this year. They were the team to beat in Mississippi High School Football this year. Congrats Oak Grove on the State Title and winning it in probably not the most ideal conditions. That was a Power 5 pelt win for sure. He has a juco offer so there’s some potential there but I expect a drop off unless he vastly improves this offseason. We’ll probably be more of defensive team next year because we lost 3 of our top 4 pass catchers as well. We’ve done a good job of reloading but I expect some growing pains. The defense should be pretty good but we’ll have to replace about half of those guys. We’ll always be talented but we won’t be what we were this year I'm not buying a drop off. Y'all ridiculously reload every year and some years somehow better than the previous year.

Don’t get me wrong we’ll still be good but experience in high school ball matters.

Joint agreement. Let the state championships be played in Jackson. What a failure by MHSAA. Absoluteky not. State funds won’t go to msu, ole miss and Usm to upgrade or build facilities why should it go to give JSU one? This is THE reason they do not currently have one on campus. They want tax payers to pay for at one point 55,000 seat horseshoe style stadium then it turned into a domed stadium. Because they can raise the money themselves to do so. I do agree that a new 20,000-30,000 ish seat stadium should be built somewhere east of interstate 55. Maybe if MS could lure in a semi pro team or something else to the area to justify it. I’m with Merlin on this or another option is to play 1A - 4A maybe at Brandon or Clinton and 5A-7A at Mississippi College. I wonder if you could transform Trustmark Park into football like they do the Hoover Met
mout25
On the contrary Merlin, state funds did go to USM to build new facilities ..wink wink. I’m sure some have made their way to Oxford and Starkville as well. Edited December 4, 2023 by mout25

I wonder if you could transform Trustmark Park into football like they do the Hoover Met I honestly have no issue with this. I think it's very possible to bring in bleachers and convert Trustmark Park into a football field. I also think MC is a great venue as well. The only thing they need to do there is extend their visitors side and make it a little bigger. They can't go back with it since the baseball field is right there, but they can extend what they have (along the sidelines) to add capacity to the visitors side. It’s not happening lol No we're not, but what's an alternative to The Rock that currently exists in the central part of the state, excluding the stadium on North State Street? You obviously won't have the same capacity, but which venue or venues can meet those needs? Edited December 4, 2023 by maroontide06
David44
What about Robinson-Hale @ Clinton? Mississippi college stadium that currently holds 8,500. A little expansion maybe to get it 12,000 or maybe 15,000 should be plenty, and it's as close to the center of the state we can get.
JagsFan77
I get that people in some parts of the state have to drive more for the championship. But... it's the championship. You can't make a long drive once a year to support your kids? Keep the UM, MSU, USM rotation and be done with it. If folks don't go to the game because it's "too far," then that's on them. If going to the state championship is such a burden on you, watch it online. There is no centrally located stadium that is big enough AND that is in a place desirable to go.

Even the 1 and 2A crowds were pushing them to max.
hasbeen67
Does the baseball stadium on Lakeland do anything? To me that wouldn't be bad, although the parking may be limited. Pretty convenient off 55 and 25. Also, I heard the Sec. of Ag talking about trying to get some livestock facilities further out in Rankin county. Maybe a small mulitpurpose stadium could be part of that.

MSSportsGuy
I truly wish the state would help with the funds to build JSU a 25K stadium closer to campus and tear down that gosh awful thing on state street. It's long outlived it's purpose.

Sure we can maybe take vacation unless running own business, even then it’s short notice cause you got to win South State first. A 4 hour or 5 hour drive as opposed to 1 or 2 and the fact that you may play on a Thursday makes a big difference to working folks. Bottom line we can do better than this with a central location.

Not really short notice. Like go ahead and plan like your team will be playing that weekend. And if they dont make it, you have a day off anyway. I do it every january at my job when the vacation calendar goes up. I put 2 days off the first week of december.

Yeah. ALL of us work. And like I said, it's 1 day a year. If it's too much of a hassle for you, don't go. Don't expect the rest of the state to change because YOU think it's too much trouble to take a day off to support YOUR child. The entitlement its atrocious. Southaven parents would gladly drive to Pascagoula if they could play for a state championship. There is not a nice stadium in the middle of the state that is a suitable place to play. Don't try to short change these kids all across the state out of playing in a nice stadium because it might inconvenience you. Maybe think about the kids instead of your own inconvenience.
maroontide06
I think another thing that would help would be knowing the rotation on the state championship sites. It's been inconsistent since it left Jackson in 2013. If they could somehow come up with a permanent rotation and stick with it, I think that would be a big benefit. coastfootballfanman
An interesting idea I have heard is to let the host site be determined by who is Home/Away that year. So if the South is home team that year, play it at USM. If North is home, rotate between Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Every other year would be at USM (which a lot of people like) and then every other year it bounces between two really great SEC stadiums.

Don't preach at me about supporting MY kids Buster... When they were in school, I didn't miss a darn thing, ever. Booster club president, Show choir president,..etc. I still support the school though they are long gone. And it's not all about me anyway. I can watch it on TV, but there are a lot of people in the pine belt that didn't go because it was 4-5 hours away, that would have otherwise.
