  1. It's amazing the difference being swept as opposed to going 1 - 2 makes in these series. State really should have won that Friday night game. If (and it won't be easy) they could win 1 game in the next 2 series and get to 2-7, I can see a path to 14-15 SEC wins. Just a tough SEC draw to open with 3 top 12 schools, and 2 on the road. Later, they have Kentucky and SC at Starkville, and a winnable final series of the year at Missouri.
  2. Last home game, chance to get in top 8 SEC, tournament bye. You know on the bubble Texas is gonna play hard. This is must win, gotta coach like it.
  3. Jans being Texas’s 6th defender. Don’t have to worry about Hubbard when he’s on the bench.
  4. USM wins game 2 an 3 @ TCU to win the series an salvage a 2 an 2 week. Considering that both losses were on the road against top 25 teams, they should stay ranked #22. Bunch of doubles today an 5 HR last 2 days. They bludgeoned TCU pitching.
  5. Tonight's game starts a pretty formidable 9 game stretch for USM. MState , La Tech at Hattiesburg for 3, Ole Miss next Tuesday, TCU for 3 next weekend at Fort Worth, and finally Mstate @ Starkville the following Tuesday. Win 5 and feel decent. Win 7 or 8 and have a parade on Hardy Street. Certainly could bump strength of schedule and RPI, but need to win some of them too.
  6. I say Enterprise 5 - 5. Maybe 6 - 4 if Mize still has no kicker or speed.
  7. Getting back to what started all this, Is Hattiesburg a more/less desirable job than say Starkville or other schools? There is no doubt that discipline is a problem and has probably kept them from a State championship. They've had the talent to do it. Coaches at every school have to deal with it. Have a super talented but undisciplined player, coach would either run them to death, grab the facemask, yell, or send out of practice. Sometimes it works, but when you have too many of those, you can't spend that much time of your practice dealing with it, when you need to be installing and running plays over and over and over again. Vance was not dumb and realized at some point, that is the cards he was dealt. That's why we saw the sideline antics, coming out to the hash marks, working the refs from the 1st QTR on, with the assistant coaches following suit. And it worked. Hattiesburg beat some pretty good teams to get to The Rock this year, (not Picayune, that was stolen, but Hattiesburg did play well enough to benefit at the end...). They will get a good coach though, but let's not make them out to be the most desirable job in the state. It's just not.
  8. probably been said already, but Ohio State losing to Michigan and all the crap that came with it, directed at Ryan Day and the whole team, will likely propel them to a National championship.
  9. Michigan 19 Alabama 10. 7:21 4th QTR. If this holds up, the Finebaum Show could be must watch TV later today. Man, Milroe has missed a lot of downfield opportunities for big plays. Seems like he just can't see the field some days.
  10. There was never any point in last night’s game that you could say “wow I think Indiana has a chance here”. If u truly have the top 12 teams, a 5 vs 12 game should not look like that.Totally non-competitive.
  11. the first and long over due 12 team playoff finally, we waited with baited breath, YEP Indiana belonged we were told, even though there best win was an average Michigan, YEP The playoff committee would be totally impartial, even though the chair was Big Ten, YEP Ole Miss, SC, Alabama, Miami would have skulled drug Indiana, YEP The very first game of the long awaited playoff could have been a 50 point blowout but Notre Dame chose to just play with it's food, much like when Indiana played the only team on their schedule with a pulse, Ohio State. YEP Should Kirk Cignetti continue to play the arrogant A__hole card after this game, NOPE Could this very first game of the much anticipated new playoff been any more embarrassing, NOPE.
  12. makes all the sense in the world. I think you nailed it. Where I work we call them "short-timers". Closing in on retirement, maximizing their benefit, while minimizing their efforts. The fire or drive to excel above and beyond is burned out and gone. That's why you always need some younger lions as part of the whole group. You then have the wisdom of the old and the energy of the young working for one goal.
  13. I think Grenada vs Hattiesburg, Tupelo vs. Brandon, and Heidelberg vs. Charleston are 3 games that you could flip a coin for who wins. Biggest upset Poplarville over Louisville. I was impressed with Grenada in last years CHIP. Well coached, disciplined, tough, and play very hard. Hattiesburg will have their hands full with that bunch. I think for the tigers to win, they will need 4 or 5 explosive plays on offense, and fortunately for them, they have Barnett and Keyes that can do just that. But, I'm sure Grenada coaches know that too, and have been scheming hard to keep it from happening.
  14. That's really the key I think. How much will Hattiesburg have to change their base defense to stop the run? I voted Hattiesburg in the poll, it just seems like this is their year of destiny. But, I will not be surprised at all if the tide win. Picayune is accustomed to playing on thanksgiving weekend so much so, that I bet the AD puts its in his yearly budget. Hattiesburg defense is the best I saw this year, but they have not faced a offense like Picayune. They have the size and they tackle well, but it takes discipline too.
  15. How many losses would Ohio State, Indiana, or Penn State have if they had played Georgia schedule? How many losses would Georgia have playing Indiana schedule? Big Fat zero.
