makes all the sense in the world. I think you nailed it. Where I work we call them "short-timers". Closing in on retirement, maximizing their benefit, while minimizing their efforts. The fire or drive to excel above and beyond is burned out and gone. That's why you always need some younger lions as part of the whole group. You then have the wisdom of the old and the energy of the young working for one goal.

I think Grenada vs Hattiesburg, Tupelo vs. Brandon, and Heidelberg vs. Charleston are 3 games that you could flip a coin for who wins. Biggest upset Poplarville over Louisville. I was impressed with Grenada in last years CHIP. Well coached, disciplined, tough, and play very hard. Hattiesburg will have their hands full with that bunch. I think for the tigers to win, they will need 4 or 5 explosive plays on offense, and fortunately for them, they have Barnett and Keyes that can do just that. But, I'm sure Grenada coaches know that too, and have been scheming hard to keep it from happening.

Hattiesburg at Picayune 6A South State Championship
David44 replied to maroontide06's topic in Football
That's really the key I think. How much will Hattiesburg have to change their base defense to stop the run? I voted Hattiesburg in the poll, it just seems like this is their year of destiny. But, I will not be surprised at all if the tide win. Picayune is accustomed to playing on thanksgiving weekend so much so, that I bet the AD puts its in his yearly budget. Hattiesburg defense is the best I saw this year, but they have not faced a offense like Picayune. They have the size and they tackle well, but it takes discipline too. -
How many losses would Ohio State, Indiana, or Penn State have if they had played Georgia schedule? How many losses would Georgia have playing Indiana schedule? Big Fat zero.
-
My two cents on these 2 games: Yes, Duece Knight is pretty good, I saw it first hand at Soso. But, I just don't see GC stopping the Picayune offense enough. They will need some turnovers or Tide miscues. Picayune 35 GC 21. Have not really seen Goula, but saw Hattiesburg close up. If Goula defense line is winning or they blitz Hattiesburg, it may not be effective, because Vance is decisive and gets the ball out quickly or can run. Hattiesburg defense against the run is very good, not sure how good against the pass, because we didn't throw one until the 4th QTR. (still mad...) Pascagoula will have to throw it and catch it well to win, or hope that Hattiesburg gets in their own way. Hattiesburg 31 Pascagoula 21.

This gets more ridiculous each week. Show me the 10 teams of this 12 better than Georgia, The 9 teams better than Ole Miss, or even the 8 teams better than Bama. And OS gets a free ride to the semi-finals. What A Joke.
-
Last year the OL was pretty good and they stayed healthy. But you saw that defense. Me or you could have won a title with that.
-
We knew the defense would be learning on the go this season. We “whooped” everyone last year because of a once in 50 years defense that all graduated. But the offense was supposed to carry the load this year with 2 good RB an a state championship QB. OL injuries an QB throwing arm elbow didn’t help. Even with all that the play calling was just terrible. We didn’t throw a pass against Hattiesburg until the 4th qtr but the very next week against GC we threw 10. There are coaching issues. New defense did their part. Coach didn’t.

West Jones 3. George County 0 7:24 1st

Georgia Ole Miss. not sure it matters what Beck does. Georgia has proved they can win regardless of his turnovers. Ole Miss needs to stay balanced and be effective running the ball. Texas rushed for 29 yards and threw it 49 times, which led to 7 sacks and no chance. Florida rushed for 118 and only threw it 30 times, which kept them in the game late, even with a 3rd string QB.

Hattiesburg at West Jones (Region 3-6A Championship)

Chance to tie the game starting the 4th QTR and then 90yard pick 6 was a 14 point swing. But, with such a 1 dimensional game plan and missing 2 starting lineman injured last week, may not have mattered. I expected Pierce to play some QB to at least offer the threat of throwing the ball. He was on the field all night, all they had to do was move Lindsey to WR. I'll say it again, Vance is better than I expected. Gets the ball out quick, accurate, and those WRs seemed to have velcro hands if the ball was anywhere close. Need to cleanup the penalties though. The left tackle literally held West Jones #9 on every single pass play. -
We don’t need WR. Only thrown 1 pass.

West 9. Hattiesburg 9. Half

Vance has been impressive, he probably has 10 completions on short but effective passes.

West Jones 9. Hattiesburg 6 Lindsey 41yd TD run

Hattiesburg at West Jones (Region 3-6A Championship)

I expect him to be at QB a lot more tonight then he has been this season. He has been at receiver mostly, only at QB in the region games (Terry) they felt it was necessary, and then only a little. As to throwing, we will see. -

You’re exactly right. QB play and game planning will be critical. But I’m not going to concede yet. I’ve seen what #7 Lindsey #10 Jones and #6 Holmes can do on the gridiron. They need the OL to do their part an no turnovers. I’m going Mustangs with the upset. I’ll be here Friday either way. -

Hattiesburg defense has been impressive and they would seem to better than the relatively new West Jones defense, but I'm not sure they are at the level of last year's West Jones defense. After 9 games, they have allowed 86 points. Last year's West Jones defense only gave up 79 points in 14 games. You could argue schedules and whatever, but that is the facts. I think both defenses Thursday night will face some higher caliber offensive talent that they have not seen thus far this year. Has Hattiesburg faced a team this year with a 240lb running back that is better than he was last year? and a QB that can run like Lindsey? He gashed them twice last year in the 1st half with long runs that started a West Jones rout. And in the same token, West Jones has not faced a team with the weapons that Hattiesburg has either. -
NFHS network has it listed to be streamed. But it is somewhat worrisome that they show the game location as Hattiesburg. If they go there, Tiger Stadium will be empty. https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/

West Jones 20 PRC 6 final I think. NFHS network stream better than nothing but some do it better than others
