  1. Going into every season I keep thinking that this will be Germantown's breakout year. They have a good staff, good facilities, good community support, and they have talent that comes through. For some reason they just haven't been able to put it all together yet. Some of that is because teams like Starkville always have talent. Tupelo had ridiculous talent 2 years ago. Clinton is so up and down within each season you never know who you'll get from week to week. Jekyll and Hyde. But I just can't see why Germantown isn't more consistent year to year with that program.
  2. Starkville losing 23 seniors including QB, top 2 of 3 rushers, top 2 of 3 WRs, #1, 4, 5, 6 tacklers, Tupelo looks to be losing 28 seniors including Sr QB, #2 & 3 running backs, #1, 3, &5 WRs , 7 out of top 8 tacklers on defense. Kicker and Punter. Madison Central losing 18 Seniors including 2 Starting Offensive Linemen, 4 of top 8 tacklers on defense. Germantown losing 20 seniors including QB, #2 rusher, can't tell about defense because only a few stats entered. Clinton losing 28 seniors including top QB, #2, 3, &4 rushers, #2, 3 WRs, #2, 3, 4, 5, 6 tacklers, Kicker/Punter

    Rings

I find that most schools go way too big on the rings now. I remember old timers wearing their rings decades after their championships because they were smaller and not obnoxiously heavy or flashy. I'd never even put on the modern huge rings I see now other than for the initial ceremony. They look like bracelets. I have noticed that teams that win multiple championships eventually work their way back down to a wearable size. They get past the flash phase and want something they can actually wear more like a class ring.
  4. Streaming has cut down on attendance. Plus kids these days would rather sit at home and scroll tiktok than be around actual people. I'd say Petal has more support than most though. Big Church and School support. Most high schools would love to have those facilities. That press box is super nice. I like the way the band is over the tunnel from the field house and the players run by the panther statue on the way out. Also you can film from the top of the field house from what I remember. I think the hedges were a bit too high for my liking. But overall I'd say it's the favorite of stadiums I've visited.
  5. Pay Facilities Ability to bring in your own staff Community Support Community Expectations Administrative Support Alumni/Parent Politics/Interference Talent Pool Tradition Difficulty to win in the region/classification
  6. Of People I've actually seen play while they were in high school: Marcus Dupree Fletcher Cox Cam Akers Jerious Norwood ok.... hear me out..... Stephen Gostkowski.. 3 time Super Bowl Champ..5x NFL scoring leader.. 4x Pro Bowl..
  7. What are the top 10 most desirable football head coaching jobs in the state? Things to consider: Pay Facilities Ability to bring in your own staff Community Support Community Expectations Administrative Support Alumni/Parent Politics/Interference Talent Pool Tradition Difficulty to win in the region/classification
  8. I understand your sentiment. I see MC at the top of a few of these polls. I just don't see that we are there at the moment. Plus I'd rather have the target on someone else's back.
  9. I'll take a blind stab at it..... West Jones Starkville Louisville Brandon Oak Grove Picayune Tupelo Madison Central West Point South Panola I also see Ocean Springs winning their region but not going deeper than 2nd round. JDC will be good too
  10. Last year.. I'm talking next year.
  11. The YellowJackets might be losing several but Starkville is still gonna Starkville. I'd have to put Oak Grove in there somewhere too. The outcomes of their season might not be the same as those listed but Oak Grove and Starkville could beat 5 through 10 on this list.

    Biloxi

Odd to think about but French, Pennock, and Bramlett were all Madison Central assistants over the years.
  13. So you're whining about it on someone else's behalf... cool story. Anyway. They can drive and support their team or they can stay home. Simple as that. My point remains. It's one game a year and no one is entitled to have a state championship close to them for their convenience. Some teams have region games over 3 hours away in every sport. I don't see threads from Clinton fans crying that they have to go to Tupelo for half a dozen or more games every single year. Maybe instead of complaining that the entire rest of the state should do better, maybe you should be complaining that those fan bases who didn't travel should do better.
  14. Uh. Yeah. ALL of us work. And like I said, it's 1 day a year. If it's too much of a hassle for you, don't go. Don't expect the rest of the state to change because YOU think it's too much trouble to take a day off to support YOUR child. The entitlement its atrocious. Southaven parents would gladly drive to Pascagoula if they could play for a state championship. There is not a nice stadium in the middle of the state that is a suitable place to play. Don't try to short change these kids all across the state out of playing in a nice stadium because it might inconvenience you. Maybe think about the kids instead of your own inconvenience.
  15. MC is losing 18 seniors but only 10 starters. Thats probably pretty comparable to most 7A programs. They lost 29 seniors last year. They should be more experienced on the depth chart overall with so many sophomores that played and/or started this season. QB was a question the entire first half of the season. Hopefully another year of strength training and the incoming group will solve that issue one way or the other. Brandon, Oak Grove, and Starkville will reload as usual I'm sure. Meridian had a huge turn around this year. Look for them to make some noise.
  16. I get that people in some parts of the state have to drive more for the championship. But... it's the championship. You can't make a long drive once a year to support your kids? Keep the UM, MSU, USM rotation and be done with it. If folks don't go to the game because it's "too far," then that's on them. If going to the state championship is such a burden on you, watch it online. There is no centrally located stadium that is big enough AND that is in a place desirable to go.

    Oxford

Mississippi State wins national awards for their turf management every year. There are folks taking care of stadiums all over the country learned how to do it at Mississippi State. Don't even try to call that playing surface a pasture. It could easily host all 7 games in the rain and still be in playable shape.
  18. How do they not even have a scoreboard on TV? No down, distance, clock? Half the high schools have better broadcasts than this. Not a good representation of the MHSAA for a televised championship game.
  19. Starkville might have some players sitting the first half.
  20. Ehhhh…. I’m not gonna say I told you so but…
  21. Starkville could still win it all. They are a different beast in the playoffs.
