Like it or not, it's here. Just like college, this has been going on to some extent for a long time. Now we're saying it's legal.
  2. I can see both sides on a lot of these. For example, vouchers for students already in private schools may be targeted towards students from a struggling public school district that have already transferred and are struggling to pay. It is based on financial need, isn't it? It's hard to imagine the whole thing won't be corrupted I would concede.
  3. First time head coach, right? It's hard to say exactly what to expect. Defensive background so what are your thoughts on OC? It seems most were expecting a more established name.
  4. I only saw the highlights, but it looked like Kentucky had a lot of open shots in the second half.
  5. The era of SEC dominance appears to be over. I think that's permanent and a consequence of the changes.
  6. The way it is now I don't think we'll know from year to year. It'll probably be 6-7 teams every year that happen to get the portal right and are a surprise. OM could have very well been back next year, but it sounds like Chambliss may be out now. It remains to be seen, I think, whether Indiana is sustainable. As for the extra years of eligibility, I don't see why they allow it for one and not another. Chambliss could go as high in the draft this year as he ever will though. I don't know what the draft people are telling him, but it's hard to imagine him or the team having a better year next year.
  7. Is everyone fine with no PI on the last play? I understand mutual hand-fighting, but the receiver was pulled to the ground.
  8. I believe the court ruling that closed Edinburgh and Thomastown called for eventually one county-wide district. I thought it was supposed to happen within two-three years. There may have been discussion of the need for a new high school to accommodate the number of students. That may be the holdup.
  9. He didn't want to single JA out from everybody else. But basically, private schools, by nature, must recruit students and athletes. It's a question of where you draw the line. He implied, or gave as an example, a powerful, influential family who had given a lot to the school. Now their kid has lost his position to a recruited player.
  10. Jake Wimberly talking about the JA case on the radio.
  11. I wouldn't think the school could stop you from transferring aside from your athletic eligibility. Maybe they leave and sit out a year or don't leave but won't play for the school. It seems just really tough to enforce anything. If you make the family mad for not allowing transfer, many will probably sit out for spite.
  12. The lack of physicality wasn't just on the lines. In some cases, DB's were getting ran over. A few plays on defense, they had no contain on the outside.
  13. I just don't think with all the film and exposure these days kids with legit collegiate talent are going to be missed wherever they are.
  14. Alabama looks like who we thought they were after Florida State. I lean MSU, but I'd like to see OM win it all for Lane's sake.
  15. Merry Christmas to Wayne County. And may the New Year bring you resolution and good luck next season.
  16. Oklahoma looking to blow Alabama out so far. Do Alabama players suspect their coach is leaving?

For some kids the disciple and accountability they are exposed to in athletics may be just as important as academics. It may be the only place they see it. Not putting one over the other, I think athletics and academics can be equally important parts of the educational process. Great coaches, I think, want their kids to be successful at both. Being successful might look different in different cases.
  18. That seems like a major ball drop on somebody's part not to have that planned better. I would have assumed all major stadiums could accommodate something like this. I know they haven't put the money in the stadium some places have, but still pretty considerable spent I'd think to not have addressed this.
  19. Facebook saying Freeze has landed in Hattiesburg?
  20. It seemed to me defense at all levels of football had been under-emphasized and not very good the last few years. Some of these games showed some pretty good defense. NFL and college are back up some as well. Tackling had gotten really bad as they emphasized the targeting calls. Everyone seems to be adjusting now. Anyone else feel this way, or just me?
  21. I think they should at least try for Durkin. He may be staying it sounds like. He may be thinking stay, have another good year, and get a head coach job.
  22. Isn't this where you're better not playing in SEC championship game? If you did and lost, there'd be nowhere to go but down.
  23. Yes, some odd rumors. Jimmy Sexton is representing some of these guys is he?
