  1. It was discussed some on the High School board, if size and class matter. Obviously, at some point it does. The 1A champ isn't going to be competitive with the 7A champ. That's the same principle here. A certain record in the Mountain West or ACC isn't the same as that record in the SEC. Look at the Clemson/USC final game. With that being said, if any of the three-loss SEC teams would have won the games they should have, they'd probably be in. P.S. What separated Saban from everyone was consistency week to week and year to year. That's what everybody else is missing. It'll probably get worse in the current era. And add depth and injuries.
  2. I didn't realize it started until I saw a promo today. I feel like the fans of every SEC team except MSU would feel like they'd have a chance against these first two and probably all but the first-round bye teams.
  3. What about this situation? It seems odd that he fell off a dock and he or someone nearby couldn't pull him in. Condolences to his personal family and the Auburn family. I don't mean to sensationalize his death, but again, it sounds strange based on the little I've read.
  4. It's like pick-up travel ball. Just get whoever you can get for a season.
  5. If they were leaving him at Marshall, why do they follow to USM? It can't be NIL here. Or he leaves first, so they leave. But if they weren't leaving, we're back to why did he leave. I think a lot of the worst-case scenarios of unlimited transfer, NIL, are showing up. Sounds like MSU QB situation is a mess. Players are just waiting for the highest bid.
  6. More students doesn't guarantee more football players. However, the probability of having more good players from a larger student body increases statistically, right? There may be some outliers when a disproportional number of good players end up at a smaller school at the same time. The football culture of the particular school also matters.
  7. It's possible State never gets the NIL thing figured out and is relegated to about where they are forever. It sounds like their position is going from weak to weaker. Probably doesn't matter who the coach is.
  8. Isn't it the same as what's happened in college - more playoff games = more money? It's probably impossible to divide it up to please everyone.
  9. Anyone know if you can take portable propane heaters into the stadium?
  10. I believe I saw Gautier is moving up also.
  11. As a side note to not criticizing players, now that we're in the NIL era, it feels like that has, or will, change as one of the consequences. They are, for good or bad, now essentially professionals. When a player agrees to come play for money that opens the door to criticism for performance. Also, as an aside, several teams that wouldn't seem to have any more resources and tradition than MSU, are finding some success - Iowa State, Indiana, Boise State, Illinois.
  12. Ya'll are pretty hard on Gautier and Coach High.
  13. I'm not too much for criticizing players for ability, but the State defensive talent and coaching seems awful. Are there any SEC level players there?
  14. Not good when the team that beats you pretty soundly goes down in polls.
  15. Only thing about State spreads now, they may look so helpless people start taking it easy on them
  16. I don't go to that many games, but it seems there's at least a minor incident pretty often. I don't consider myself a "stay off my lawn" old man, but it's not encouraging to hear. On the other hand, when you hear some of the stories from the real old-timers maybe not much has changed.
  17. We lose sight sometimes that these are real kids out there. Tough news for Shapen.
  18. I guess in the current age of NIL we can blame ourselves for not hiring enough good players. You need a good coach, but you have to buy the players. It's probably some combination of all the things mentioned. I think most believed the Arnett team had a little more talent overall. There were some good defensive players and we've seen/are seeing what the running could do. Also, the OC/offense choice was a pretty drastic change for the short notice. Would have probably been wise to at least stay similar to what you were doing and transition over the next year if that's what you wanted. Didn't have the personnel, particularly QB, to do what they were trying to do. I think between graduation and transfers, most people understood the talent would be thin this year. (But maybe not this bad.)
  19. Yes, nothing about ASU looks that great now. Looks like they may beat them. That's really a bad look for MSU. Hate to be so negative, but it is what it is. I'm a pretty casual observer, but does Texas State not look more athletic and better coached than MSU did?
  20. Unfortunately, the hype, or lack there of, may indicate a realization of what the season will bring. It may take a year or two before Lebby has much to promote.
