  1. All the opt outs to me just signals the need for structured contracts for these players. If you are healthy and being paid, you play every game your team has. You sign a 2 year contract worth $750,000, you play every game for 2 years. It is no longer amateur sports. It is time to stop treating it that way.
  2. Unless the switch just flips for him, I do not see Deuce ever really being that good at the college level honestly. He can throw a "go" route as good as anyone I have seen, but you need A LOT more than that to be successful at the P4 level.
  3. King in my opinion makes the most sense. Fant is a bit perplexing to me as he has a losing record overall at Vancleave. Has had just 1 winning season and just 1 playoff win. I am not sure how that translates to a guy who should be up for this job. I know people say he does "more with less" but does he really? They made the playoffs the past 2 years due to being in arguably the worst region in the entire state for football. He has been about on par with what Lavon Capers was doing there and probably is not in Bloomfield's class (yet). I think he would have them be tough and competitive but I do not see the allure to wanting him. I do not trust retirees from Alabama. Majority of them do not stay long (especially after they see they will not have the freedom to recruit and do as they please like in Alabama) and track record of success (at least on the coast) has not been very good.
  4. Hard to imagine a guy like Lacy leaving a place like Georgia (especially as a DC at a great program like Valdosta) for what is left of Moss Point. If true, sounds like he would be a great candidate for Moss Point though. I wonder if the new coach would have freedom to bring in his own assistants? Moss Point did not look well prepared in the games I saw. I know the talent was down, but they looked lost at times on both sides of the ball.
  5. What names have put in for it? I have heard the current OC who is also an MP alum has a strong shot at the job due to community support.
  6. Oatis has played all night. Which is why I’m sort of shocked how well Grenada as run the ball.
  7. How does this guy not have several division 1 offers?! It is mind blowing
  8. I will say from what I gathered, Hattiesburg has had the fortune of things bouncing their way a lot this year. They are a great football team but they have not had the breaks tonight they had been.
  9. Hattiesburg front can’t handle Grenada on either side of the ball right now. Vance’s best chance is slipping away. Time to get back in it, but they have to get it going
  10. He has been impressive all year. I was told this was his first year playing varsity football. He has been a baseball player for his high school career.
  11. No doubt. They had their chances early on. West Point made things extremely difficult for Irving at times. He played as well as he could have given the situation. He kept them in it.
  12. West Point sat on the ball and played conservative 2nd half. They could have put up another 3-4 scores. Hats off to Gautier. Heck of a season for them. Reality hits next year. 4-6A is a lot different than 4-5A
  13. I have not said it does not matter. I stated that it is not as big of an issue as you are making it to be. Again, I understand why you are in favor of it. Grenada is more relevant than they have ever been. You have 2 State title and 3 south state appearances only in school history. Most of that was accomplished due to the state going to 7 classes. You are bias for a reason.
  14. I think you just like to say things. Picayune had 763 last count. Simmons had 119. The difference between them would then be 644. 644>3-400.
  15. We can agree to disagree with that. Picayune is not a good barometer for your argument. They are a program that will always seek out to play the best of the best which again adds to the point that enrollment is not as big of a deal as your are making it because they routinely beat teams that have 3-400 more kids than they do.
  16. Bay High's job was posted again on MHSAA website last night. Surely if they had 75 applicants, 3-5 of them were worth of going with? Seems odd it is posted again.
  17. They are more than competitive and you know that. They also beat them both last season. Hell, they have played Gulfport each of the last 9-10 seasons and have only lost to them 3 times.. Again, I understand why you feel so strongly about this. Your program has benefitted directly from 7 classes and you know if it went back to 5 or even 6, you fall back into being just another team and using the "ThEY HaVe MoRe KiDs ThAn wE dO!" argument.
  18. Sounds like an excuse for your argument though. They have better numbers than most schools and have for some time now and literally have nothing to show for it. Your argument was the disparity in numbers correlates with competitiveness. It does not as I just laid out examples. As far as the part I bolded, that is pretty simple. Because the MHSAA does not allow you to opt down. LOL. You think if they could, St. Martin or Long Beach would not opt down? Hell I would wager half of Desoto County schools would opt down.
  19. Desoto Central is one of the largest schools in this state. They have never one more than 7 games in a season and have never won a playoff game. Harrison Central was the biggest school in the state for 20+ years. They have just 2 wins in 40+ years of the playoff system being established. They have 1 region title (1989). I am not saying having numbers cannot potentially help but it is not the be all, end all. Picayune is a team who routinely has played schools with 500+ more students than them and has beaten them.
  20. Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Texas all have similar number disparities. Louisville would beat 80% of the 6A and 7A schools despite being half their size. School size is not as big of a deal as some make it. I get why you do make it one being a Grenada fan.
  21. I just took the newest released division for 7/6A and created 8, 6 team regions. I have to admit, I like it. Especially for playoff purposes. 4 rounds. Whoever comes out on top would go through a gauntlet! 1-5A: Desoto Central, Horn Lake, Hernando, Lewisburg, Southaven, Lake Cormorant 2-5A: Center Hill, Olive Branch, Oxford, South Panola, Tupelo, Saltillo 3-5A: Grenada, Starkville, Ridgeland, Neshoba Central, Germantown, Madison Central 4-5A: Warren Central, Clinton, Callway, Greenville, Canton, Murrah 5-5A: Pearl, Brandon, Terry, Jim Hill, Forest Hill, Northwest Rankin 6-5A: Meridian, Hattiesburg, Oak Grove, Petal, West Jones, Pearl River Central 7-5A: Picayune, Hancock, West Harrison, Harrison Central, Gulfport, Biloxi 8-5A: d'Iberville, St. Martin, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, George County, Gautier Biggest caveat would be who has less numbers out of Gautier and Long Beach. They are the bottom of 6A number wise. With 7A currently having 25, one of those two would be in 4A. If Long Beach has more, they would be 7-5A and Biloxi would shift to 8-5A.
