I saw a post circulating on Facebook that Todd McDaniel at Ridgeland is retiring. Does that mean he is retiring at the end of this year, meaning they need a Head Football Coach? It did not specify if it was happening now or next year.
-
Agreed. Almighty dollar is what matters most to them.

He is a stand up guy from all accounts.

Pascagoula graduated a ton of talent. The cupboard will not be bare, but it is hard to see them replicating their run in region last year. I expect them to firmly be a playoff team but I do not think I see them as a threat past the first round at the current moment. New coach or not, it’s hard to replace all that they lost. I think PRC could be the surprise in the region. If they can get better on defense I like their chances. Gautier was real young and brings back basically everything from a team that was a few plays away from being the 3 seed so they could be a team to watch. Hancock lost some talent, especially at quarterback. It will be interesting to see how they look in spring.

Picayune will be tough as always but they lost a pretty good bit up front on both sides of the ball to graduation and I heard another has moved on to PRC. Just basing off what I know today, I would put them at 3. Right there with a chance to win the south.

Good for Lampley. I hated how things went down for him here at Ocean Springs, but glad he has gotten an opportunity to grow. Like Slick mentioned, he will have some time to grow this program and 5A south is fairly weak so there could be some quick success. It will all come down to how good of a staff he can bring in.

He stated he was "invisible" at practices which to most would insinuate that he did not do anything. My son reported the same as he just finished his playing career with OS so this obviously is a theme. So if he is a coach who is not actively involved in practice, game planning, etc., how valuable of a coach would you say a person is? Bramlett demoted him from OC title to keep King on board. That obviously signals something is there in regards to Lampley's importance to the OS operation, or lack thereof. Which for a new HFC like Zach Green who is trying to build a staff up, could potentially be an issue especially as he is more of a defensive minded coach. His offensive coaching staff hires will have to hit and from all regards, Lampley may be a "miss" at the moment.
-
From what I was told, he was Goula bound until Coach Bramlett made him the OC and play caller for us at OS. There are some other moves coming, but like you said, they have been known.
-
Lampley is good guy, but he was never the play caller and from what I was told, never involved a lot with day to day operations. King was apparently set to make a move to advance his career and the staff change was used to prevent that and keep him on the staff at OS. It will be interesting to see how it plays out overall going forward.

You had them in both 6A and 7A lists though. They cannot be on both. Will they be 7 or 6A? -

You have St. Martin in 6A in post above but 7A here?? -
Hard for me to believe out of a rumored 70+ applicants, that was the best 5-6 they could have interviewed and selected. He is a great coach who very well could do a great job. From what I was told, this Green was the selection months ago and this all was formality. I would give this hire a B if I had to grade it.

KAT GANDY- WAYNE COUNTY ATHLETICS OWES YOU AN APOLOGY
coastfootballfanman replied to slicklizard's topic in Football
Where is Gandy now? -
Having seen Wayne County this year I can say two things. 1. The athletes to be successful are there right now. Not including the ones who were run off, quit, or decided not to play the past few years. 2. Facilities are great and easily among the top in 5A, if not the state. This has potential to be a really, really good job. The right coach, will have them competing for state championships year in and year out.

I am not sure if you took that last part from my post, but I never implied or said that. I am speaking of personal knowledge that MANY districts do not require HFC's to teach any class. Your HFC should be in the hall ways helping with discipline, getting players recruited, fundraising, etc. How can you expect to have a successful team and coach by having them teach 2-3 classes a day AND build a program? MANY districts only require assistant coaches to teach 2 blocks per day, planning a 3rd block and football 4th block. I know for a FACT that Gulfport High School has at minimum of 3 coaches that do not teach a single subject. Again, my point was you have to be willing to figure out how to make it work. Many schools on the coast do not try. They do not give the true support programs need and that is why in 25 years, the coast has had 3 teams play for a state title in the highest classification? Times are different now. Look around the state, the top programs, coaches, etc. They are not in the classroom very often. If you want to build a successful program, you have to figure it out. Just because a coach does not teach a class does not mean the players will not still have discipline and expectations.

Brother, Nick Saban would have went 0-10 with Bay High this year. LOL They were one of the worst teams I have seen in my life.
-
I said it when they first ran French off it was a mistake. He was a good coach who had been about as successful as you could be by Biloxi standards. Bobby Hall was collecting a pay check and the game had severely passed him by. DuBose was here to double dip and get a check himself. He was not able to recruit and bring kids in with ease like he had elsewhere and struggled. I am a firm believer in retirees are not the answer in the majority of cases. Many have already said it and it has been true for 20+ years for Biloxi (and many coast schools). Until football is prioritized and you give coaches what they really need to succeed, they will always underperform despite having the athletes to compete.

Lane Brady would have Goula in the 7A State Championship game by year 2! That is right. They would win 6A AND 7A with him at the helm. LOL
-
He probably would, but from everything I have heard, Goula is not interested in a retiree or older coach.

I am told Lacey is staying put at Hattiesburg. Green is the one in the lead from what I was told. Was also told pretty much they are targeting a younger coach so I would not expect anyone "older" to be a serious candidate for this job.
