Well it appears they have went back and added Head Football to the Job posting now.

Not saying this is the case in Hattiesburg, because obviously I do not know. However, higher ups (i.e. administration) will sometimes have a vision or want things done a certain way, or how they think it should be done. They bring in someone new who they think will do it their way and when they do not, their ego feels threatened and causes them butt heads with and sometimes to want rid of that new hire. Happens all the time in every type of job/work situation/relationship. So I could see a situation where despite on the field success, there could be some issues behind the scenes where an employee leaving may be the best option. I personally do not take much stock in this, however I heard a similar story from a completely unrelated source in the pine belt 6-8 weeks ago. Now you have this article by a news outlet that has been pretty spot on with recent coaching vacancies and rumors in multiple sports. It signals some smoke. Now, I personally do not believe there is any way he would want to leave Hattiesburg, however I felt the same way when rumors swirled that Pennock was the guy going to Gulfport. So what do I really know? LOL

I think much like Kiffin, the decision comes down to 2 things. 1. Money (Brandon can probably get in the ball park for what Pennock makes now) 2. How consistently do you have the potential to compete for championships. I think Brandon (like LSU) has things in place and has shown they are much more consistent at competing for championships that Gulfport (like Ole Miss) has.

Hearing Bramlett and Pennock are two names to keep an eye on.

MHSAA Website just posted a job for what seems to be Athletic Director only. Does not mention anything related to being the Head Football Coach. So it appears they may be making that a separate position. Which would probably help in hiring a head coach.

Definitely would be an interesting development given the amount of success he is experiencing. I was told something similarly about a month or two ago, but I did not take it for anything serious.

Well this is an interesting development from the rumor mill.. https://southmiss6.com/2025/12/01/prep-football-notebook-catching-up-on-some-coaching-rumors-and-the-morgan-family-affair-this-week/

I have had the pleasure of spending some time around him as we have mutual friends and not too far off from one another in age and he is a great man. Had his shortcomings as a coach, but in my opinion he raised Pascagoula up as a program from where they were the roughly 15-20 years prior to his arrival. Definitely will be hard to replace. I imagine it will draw some really quality applicants.

I think Hattiesburg wins by 21+ honestly. They got it rolling.

Gulfport 27 Brandon 0 -
Absolutely. He is definitely one of the top coaches on the coast and in the state!
-
If I were Pascagoula, I would give Stockstill at Pass a call and make him tell me no thanks. That guy knows how to win!
-
I agree, they most likely have some candidates in mind. I still imagine it will draw some quality names though from throughout the state and surrounding states.
-
If my Alma mater (Gulfport) was not playing for a south state championship for the first time in 25 years, I would be going to this one. Should be a great game. Right now, I will take Hattiesburg in a close one.
-
Hasn’t been officially posted on MHSAA website yet, but news outlets as well as the Pascagoula Booster club have posted Lewis Sims is retiring and officially announcing it December 1. I imagine this job will draw some quality candidates.

I understand what you mean now. They ran a lot of TE sets vs us, (Ocean Springs) and they threw to him a few times. Not sure overall how much they throw to them but they ran a ton of tight end sets vs. us.

Probably better to experience that last week than this week I suppose. Bound to have an off night after playing at a really high level for a month or so and to still come out with a 41-7 win. Have to be somewhat pleased with that.

I do not know if regressed is how I would describe his play. I just looked at his numbers from MaxPreps and since region play began, he has thrown for 984 yards (164 yard per game avg.) with 10 passing touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 60% completion rate with a 105 QBR. These numbers are coupled with Amarie Jackson rushing for 963 yards (160.5 per game avg.) and 13 rushing touchdowns and Sean Norvel rushing for 485 yards (80.8 yard per game avg.) and 6 rushing touchdowns. Both teams are scoring about the same rate and defenses are stopping at about the same rate. I think it will be a great game between two really good ball clubs.
-
Yes he took over full time during that game and has been the starter since.

I could see a situation where he is out this year honestly. You couple this year with what he was able to do at Marshall, I would not be surprised to see someone take a shot on him. If he comes back and has a similar to this year, next year, then I think he is gone by next December. -

He let go of Offensive Line Coach Chatam as well it appears. -
PRC at Hattiesburg ( First Round 6A Playoffs)
coastfootballfanman replied to Vott's topic in Football
I agree. I think every game has potential to be a good one. PRC proved last week they are good enough to play with and beat anyone. Hancock has the offensive firepower to make it interesting if West Jones does not take them serious. George County is a tough, gritty group that can shorten the game and keep Picayune off the field. Terry has the athletes and size to match up with Pascagoula. It has potential to be a fun week. -
I wish we would have stayed 6 classes. You could have still kept the top 20-24 in 6A to keep from having 800 student difference between top and bottom of 6A, and then distributed the rest through 1A-5A. I honestly would not mind 7 classes if we fixed the playoffs. Top 3 (or even 2 - like the old days) would be much better and keep out the 0-10 or 2-8 teams from the playoffs. Overall, it is about money more than anything and because of that, we will never go back.

Hattiesburg should win comfortably. Picayune should cruise to a hot clock. West Jones by 14+. If the Goula team that has been playing the past month shows up, I like them to win comfortably as well. If they do not, then it could be Terry's night to play spoiler. -

I was told there was apparently a bad wreck along the way and was going to take hours to clear which would prevent George from getting there on time and the game would start much later. So they moved it to Friday. Not sure how accurate the story is, that is just what I was told.
