Is Gulfport that much better of a job than Ocean Springs?

Milner Stadium has one of the last if not the last grass field on the coast so yes it's a far superior job simply because of that.  It's too bad Gulfport's practice field isn't grass.  I guess they should just take buses over to Milner everyday and practice there 🤣.

No.  OS is starting to field athletes across the field.  Gulfport typically has more speed at the skill positions but that advantage is waning.  This only makes sense from a financial standpoint because they will pay more than OS.

Unless they have some more Hubbards growing on trees in Ocean Springs this years team was most likely their peak for a while.

I agree with you. This was their best shot at it. They will be a good team next year with a veteran defense, but they won’t have the same level of explosiveness on offense in my opinion.

I wonder how many of Pennock's recruits will go with him to Gulfport?

My daughter said that a lot of the boys had a "what do we do now" type of attitude. They are not happy with him at the moment. I was also told he would be able to bring 5 or 6 assistants of his choosing with him to Gulfport which is something you rarely see allowed for Head Football Coaches in Mississippi.

It puts the entire athletic department in a mess. He was the asst AD and was supposed to run things until the new one was hired. Now no one knows what’s going to happen.

Only two started varsity last year so it will be interesting. Both Coordinators are going with him. Most of the other assistant coaches were retained from before so it will all be interesting. Especially with no AD.

I imagine his OL, WR, OC, DC, all will go with him. They were guys he brought in. Howze and Davis are Ocean Springs Alumni so I imagine they would want to stay, although I could see Howze going. Keith Carter may would go with him as well now that his son has moved on to college.

I know for a fact OC and DC are. Keith has a 7th grader too though so I doubt it. He plays football, basketball, and baseball for the middle school.

I forgot he had one that young. Yeah, I would imagine he stays too then. Robin Lee his offensive line coach has been with him a while dating back to Clinton. He did not make the move to Pass with Pennock but came to Ocean Springs when he got the job there. I imagine he will be one that goes with the OC and DC. Pennock brought Lampley to the coast from Hinds CC and they have a connection from Pennock's days at USM. I imagine he would go as well. Big time limbo right now at Ocean Springs. Curious how they move forward in the coming weeks after the announcement is officially made.

Special Teams may go too. He came in under Pennock. A lot of the other coaches went to St. Martin with Smith so there will be a lot of fresh faces. May light a fire to find an AD now. They have been dragging their feet because of timing and who one of their targets is.
