On another note, while getting sidetracked reading Twitter comments about OM and Beard, one “college basketball insider” said Beard would take either of the two big Mississippi basketball coaching jobs.  When reminded that State has a first year coach doing a pretty good job, the guy said there is talk about Jans being pursued by a bigger name program.

That would be certainly interesting and would go back to my point on this.

Almost every MSU fan on a moral high horse about Beard would suddenly support him IF MSU was trying to hire him while OM fans would suddenly get on the moral high horse if MSU hired him.

I agree it's a stretch IF we know for sure Beard hit or choked her... is there a video?

There's no debating what Simmons did, only (and I agree, the age difference). There's a debate of what really happened in Beard's accusations.

There’s a police report that said she had bite marks and cuts on her face and arm, so he definitely put hands and/or teeth on her.  The only thing she said she lied about was the choking, however she also said she instigated it by breaking his glasses.

My main point was that most coaches that have baggage have to go sit in timeout for a year or two before getting another respectable job, Beard not having that is very surprising to me.

And look, it’s been brought up on other sites already, but yes, Chris Jans has some baggage too. Not in the same neighborhood as these allegations. But he lost his job at Bowling Green over it, and had to go be an assistant coach for a couple of years before someone else gave him a chance to be a head coach again.

That all took place over several years. The Beard situation is not even 3 months old.

My gosh that was painful to watch. Tolu Smith won that game almost single-handedly. If that win puts State in the NCAA Tournament like I think it does, that’s an all time great individual performance in MSU hoops history.

Like I mentioned, I think that’s going to be enough for State to get in. A loss to Bama doesn’t hurt you, a win removes the little bit of doubt that may still exist. And I do think State can be competitive in that game.

He’s not a scholarship player?   The few times I’ve seen him play, he’s made some very athletic plays.

Weird deal with Jones, he was going to Texas State (yes, the Sun Belt school that wasn’t any good this year) and they dropped him late in the process for some reason. State didn’t have any open scholarships and added him as a walk-on with July or August.

I think that guy has a chance to be awesome if he continues to develop.

Agree on Jones. He can be a star in the future. Has a great basketball body and seems to be one of those players who has great instincts and can just make plays.

The game against Bama could be interesting.
Bama has a one seed locked up and the incentive level may be lower. The pressure is off us and we were more than competitive with them both games and could have easily one either or both during the regular season. A win is not out of the rim of possibilities.

We will see what happens.

Lunardi has State above the Dayton line right now, i.e. not even having to play in a play-in game. Feel like that’s a good spot to be in.

Could be wrong, but my thought is that State’s in and the rest of the weekend will determine whether they have to play in Dayton or not. That may depend on results of other conference tourneys, too. But I feel good about the chances of State’s name being called on Sunday.

I'd be fairly surprised if MSU doesn't get a bid with a loss tomorrow. It's possible depending on what else happens, but not very probable.

Winning tomorrow removes any doubt MSU gets a dance bid.

I figure MSU gets in at a 10 seed with a loss tomorrow and could well move into a 8 or 9 seed with a win tomorrow.

Arkansas and Auburn were both projected 9 seeds heading into today. Arkansas beat Auburn in the SECT which likely makes Arkansas pretty safely "IN".

Then again, Auburn/Arkansas/MSU have basically the same overall record with Auburn having the nod with the best conference record.

I think all 3 get a bid BUT IF stolen bids happen... one of these three may get left out and that's a tough call for the selection committee.

I think all three are pretty safely in. I haven’t even seen Arkansas or Auburn listed as bubble teams at this point. State is probably the most iffy but the chances of them getting in are still very high right now.

I expect 8 SEC teams in the NCAAT, and potentially 9 if Vandy were to somehow win the SEC Tourney (not expecting that).

The thing with stolen bids is there just aren’t that many out there anymore. Several of the big bullets have already been dodged.

I mean yeah, there are still 2-3 tourneys worth monitoring for stolen bids. C-USA is probably the big one if FAU loses. But all the other stolen bid likelihoods seem quite low. You’re at the point where most of the teams still playing are either safely in or on the right side of the bubble. And the list of potential bid thieves could really shrink today.

I’m at the point where I feel like for State and other SEC teams, stolen bids would moreso impact seeding rather than whether or not they make the tournament.

Lunardi dropped Auburn from a 9 to a 10 after yesterday, bumped Arkansas up from a 9 to an 8, and State held at an 11 and just outside the play in games.

There’s a small chance that State could still be left out, but I think the odds are higher that they’d just be bumped from the 64 to a play in game if something weird were to happen.

As bad as they played in the second half yesterday, they still came up big with the game on the line.  They should play loose today after getting that win yesterday.

State looked tired, have to imagine the overtime game yesterday didn’t help. Bama looked fresh and is the better team anyway.

You would’ve liked for the score to not be so ugly, but still feel that State is going to be in, and all that remains to be determined is Dayton or no Dayton.

State didn’t need Vandy to win.  Another win by them, very possible, they could replace State.

Vandy is certainly working their chances into the NCAAT, I lean they'd take someone else's bid instead of MSU's.

This is where I am. I don’t think State is the one who Vandy would replace. And for the record, still think Vandy needs at least one more win and might need to win the tournament.
