Crazy to think that FAU lost to Ole Miss in game 2 of the season and Ole Miss was pretty much in control 10+ point lead the entire game.

FAU then went 33-2 after that while Ole Miss went 10-21. And now FAU is in the Elite 8.

Tennessee is becoming pretty synonymous with choking in March. Really was expecting them to lose in the first round but then after the handled Duke I was wondering if this would be a year they broke thru to the final four…..my fault for drinking the koolaid.

Could not figure out at all what Tennessee was trying to do. They had a huge size advantage and seemed content to try to win a three point contest. Also gave up a lot of offensive rebounds to a very small team.

Crazy that FAU is doing this after playing in one NCAAT game ever prior to last weekend. They had a one and done trip in 2002 and that was it prior to this unreal season they’ve had.

Down goes Bama. Not really surprised. They were due for an off game. After watching State basically having golden opportunities to beat them twice, I felt they were beatable.
Plus the three point shot is often fickle. It is great but occasionally those shots are not going to fall and when they don’t the difference in a great and good team is that you find a way to win anyway.

3-27 from Three is about as bad as it gets and that will get you beat in the NCAAT.

Houston out too. First time ever there are zero 1 seeds on the Elite 8. Wow.

To top it off, you’re going to have a very unlikely participant in the championship game. K-State vs FAU is on the same side of the bracket as San Diego State vs Creighton/Princeton. One of those teams is playing for all the marbles next Monday.

KState and VaTech are the only two P5 schools to have not won a National Championship.

So I would not mind seeing KSTATE win it this year.

Otherwise, if Princeton were to somehow get there, it would truly be awesome. All of America would be pulling for them except for their opponent’s fans. lol

This is what makes the Tournament great.

Elite 8 is set for today and tomorrow:

Kansas State vs Florida Atlantic

UConn vs Gonzaga

Creighton vs San Diego State

Texas vs Miami

Talk about a nontraditional group, well aside from UConn and Gonzaga, but only one of those two will be in the Final Four.

Congrats to OM’s WBB on making the Sweet 16.  That’s huge considering they had zero SEC wins a few years ago.

I do think they treated it like a NC experience though instead of just the second weekend of the NCAAT.   There was a lot of congratulating themselves, especially from the coach.  It’s definitely something to build on though.

It’s been a crazy tourney.

Kansas St, Creighton, FAU or San Diego State will be in the NC game.

My gut says the Final Four ends up being K-State, Creighton, UConn, and Texas. But it’s wiiiiiide open at this point. Really excited about the UConn-Gonzaga game, think it has a chance to be great.

I thought the combination of Nowell and Johnson was playing well enough to put them in the NC.   Nowell did his part, but Johnson had a bad game.  FAU does not give up.  No lead is safe against them.

I’m no coach, but the game plan for Gonzaga does not appear to be working.  Sanogo is about to have Nowell type assist numbers.  He could end up with a triple double.

FAU in the Final Four is awesome. And I’m not sure it’s even the Cinderella story some will make it out to be. I realize they have no basketball history prior to this run but you’re talking about a team that’s now 35-3 and was probably several spots underseeded as a 9 seed. Thought they should’ve been more like a 6 or 7 to begin with. It reminds me of Coastal Carolina’s run in baseball. Yeah they were a very non traditional winner but that was a dang good team the whole time, not unlike this FAU group.

UConn is absolutely ripping Gonzaga to shreds. I’ve felt like the field was still wide open but it may not be. Huskies look like the team to beat at the moment.

UConn had an unreal start to the season, dominated several very good teams and got up to No. 2 in the polls, but then hit a rut when conference play started. Even so, they’ve only lost two games since the beginning of February and one was in the conference tournament. And nobody in the tournament has played them within single digits yet. Whether they win it or not, the run so far has been totally dominant.

Man what a tournament. Three of the Final Four have never appeared in a Final Four before.

San Diego State vs Florida Atlantic

UConn vs Miami

UConn is likely the heavy favorite but I’m intrigued as all get out by this group of teams.

Totally forgot that Jim Larranaga was the coach at Miami now, channeling his old George Mason magic this year.

UConn has to be the favorite, but a cool shooting night and anything can happen.  Miami supposedly spent some serious NIL to build their team.  The KSU transfer got $800k.

I read earlier that the FAU coach said teams have been recruiting his players DURING the tournament!

The youngest Weatherspoon brother plays for FAU. Neither of his brothers ever won an NCAAT game, yet the one who couldn’t get an offer from an SEC school is the one who is playing in the Final Four. Wild.

should they not have treated that as their NC?? You seem to be knocking their approach.

LSU wins the women’s championship, not many saw that coming. Crazy turnaround in a short amount of time for Kim Mulkey.

UConn vs San Diego State in the men’s final tonight. SDSU is an experienced team that plays good defense, but I’m having a hard time convincing myself that UConn’s run of dominance through this tourney doesn’t conclude with them winning it all tonight. Nobody has even played them close yet.

LSU walked into a gold mine similar to usce six years ago when we beat connecticut and had nothing left in the tank for the Championship game. Iowa was on fumes after Friday night.

Just very difficult to play at that level two games in a row with only 36 hours between games.

I agree with 83 that connecticut is the solid favorite but they maybe due for an off game.
I think San Diego State caps it off with the win and takes home the gold ball.
Plus what better way to end what has been a crazy season of basketball.

Plus I just checked my brackets and lo and behold on one of my brackets I actually have

SDSU beating Texas 76-75 in the NC game.

Not sure how/why I did that but I did.

So if they win I will be at least be in the top 98% of the entries.

Go Aztecs!!!
