  1. Since it has been so quiet here lately, I have to give a shout out to the State Softball team for a 4-0 start in the Baylor tournament especially the 10-0 blowout of the Bears in the first game. Of course the SEC is always stacked but Ricketts is a good coach and she has built a good solid program over the last few years. And baseball kicks off with the first pitch Friday for all of our teams. As Harry Carey espoused for the lowly Cubs back in the day “Hope Springs Eternal “ and everyone is 0-0 at the beginning of the season. And this year all three teams are looking good and I think we could be in for a fun year on the diamond!!!
  2. I remember back in 1975-76-77 Coach Tyler and State fought the NCAA over a player who was declared ineligible because he received a discount at a clothing store that was available to ALL students. The NAZI’s err NC2A then forced State to forfeit 19 wins and 2 ties. Most egregious atrocity ever committed by that organization. Sadly I can see something similar happening in this case. Good luck to the young man and the school but honestly I don’t see this turning out good for Ole Miss (at least at this point).
  3. Well now does Mr. Chambliss take his wares to the NFL, where IMO, he will make a bucket full of money. As I understand this he will fight the NCAA in court but that most likely will be a losing proposition. In the NFL, I can see him being a smaller version of Taysom Hill. He is so versatile. He could play QB, RB, FL, WR etc. At his size I am not sure he could be a FT QB. But man, put him in the right NFL offense and he can be an explosive weapon. We will see how this develops.
  4. It pains me to say this but as good as Hubbard is, this year he has not been a good clutch player. Today we are down three, he has a one and one to cut the lead to one. He misses the free throw. And basically the game is over. Have to make those Free Throws to put pressure on the other team.
  5. I got home late last night and had no idea who won. Turned the replay on and after a rough start, the ladies ended the half on a 9-0 run to lead by 9. And then stretched it to over twenty in the second half and basically cruised home. I was very pleasantly surprised. I would agree this team was not expected to do much but if they make the tournament which the announcers last night felt confident that they would (especially with that win in your back pocket) that would be a heck of an accomplishment.
  6. We don’t talk much about the ladies but State had a huge road win at Knoxville last night over Tennessee (who was previously undefeated in conference play). We will see if it parlays in to more success as the season progresses. They have had some tough losses but no doubt they are improving. Big game with Missouri Sunday in the Hump. Definitely one I did not see coming.
  7. Agree. Florida looks good, Vandy after a bit of a slump is playing well. But that is about it. A&M has been good but I have no confidence that it will continue. Everybody is inconsistent.
  8. Think that ship has sailed. Second go arounds seldom match the first go arounds. But coaching change in Red Stick is gonna happen…maybe this weekend but if not most likely before the end of the season.
  9. Well State with a must win tonight. And I know it was LSU who is/was worse than State. Not much to read into this game except it was not a loss. And all wins on the road are good wins.
  10. Don’t let a five game losing streak make you emotional about a coach. Yes things are bad but firing a coach after a short period of bad games is totally stupidity. With Raiders 10 logic, we would be on our third head coach during this year alone. Lose a game or two jump into the coaching portal and sign a coach to a ten day contract. Win a game extend it for five days. Lose game, throw him back into the lake like an undersized bass.
  11. So far it seems that State & Ole Miss have done a decent job in adding mercenaries to their respective teams. The proof will be in the pudding this fall.
  12. Not sure either team is NIT worthy at this point in time. Embarrassing performance again tonight by State. Young guys off the bench seem to be playing better. Might as well let them play more going forward. Starters have been below average.
  13. Indy for the win!!!! Wow what a great game!!! Mendoza with the run of the decade!!!
  14. I mean the guy has led State to three straight NCAA tournaments. This year has been a struggle but it seems people have the patience of a Gnat these days. This microwave society that we live in today is just completely absurd. The season is barely half over and some knuckleheads are wanting him on the hot seat. Really? Let the season play out and then make an assessment on how he is doing. If everyone had this attitude in 1988-89-90, Richard Williams would have been fired. And there would have been no 1991 SEC Championship, no 1995 Sweet Sixteen, no 1996 Final Four…. completely ridiculous….
  15. Are you guys hearing something that I am not? Yes this team has had some struggles this year but they are not a bad team by any means. Last night neither team played well. After sleeping on it, I think Hubbard may felt the extra pressure of the 1996 team being in the house. And as a result, he was pressing and struggled. Missing 5 FT’s? Just unheard of for him. And he missed several wide open threes. Last night was less about the coaches and more about the players just not making shots. Both teams had numerous open looks from three and just failed to make them. Way too much is made out of one game. Both Beard & Jans are good coaches. The game could have easily ended up with a State win had Hubbard’s layup gone in. That is how close it was. Credit to Ole Miss for scoring one more point last night. Nothing more, nothing less.
  16. There is way too many school districts and the administration offices are bloated to the max. It seems to me that if a Principal is failing, the administration office creates a new position and then promotes said Principal into it. And then coaches seem to get shuttled around from school to school as many times as Zsa Zsa Gabor was married. 1. There should be one school district office for each county (and in some cases i.e. Issaquena County, one office for two counties). 2. Administrative offices should be pared back to the bare minimum. 3. State testing is needs to be completely revamped. There is way too much emphasis on it. Obviously you have to be able to assess where a child stands academically. But the current system discourages creative thinking skills and encourages learning how to pass a test. 4. Now with respect to the transfer issue, I see quite a few people whining about it but none seem to care about why some schools are failing to educate their students. Poor parenting, poor teachers, bloated administration, kids that don’t care, no discipline (thanks to the Southern Poverty Law Center for that) are some of the reasons. 5. If schools were succeeding in educating their students, this bill would have never come up. Some of these schools/districts seem to operate as their own little fiefdom and woe to anyone who attempts to make improvements to them, or force them to start living up to their responsibilities and expectations of teaching children. Period. We will see where all this lands but it is about time the Apple Cart got turned over in education and some real action taken to improve our schools and most importantly teach our children the highest standard possible.
  17. Missed two FT’s and a layup. But it was an ugly game that State lost and Ole Miss did not lose. Coach Jans is safe. I can’t believe that someone would even broach that subject.
  18. Free Throws will make you or kill you. We missed 9 FT’s and I think a couple of them were front ends of a one and one in first half. So effectively 11 missed FT’s. Costly when you lose by one point.
  19. Ugly game. Hubs misses two FT’s and a lay up. Fitting way to end the game.
  20. Basketball version of the Egg, Part 1. Have no idea what will happen. Must win for State since it is at home. Both teams have been underwhelming for the most part of this year with a few sprinkles of good. Ole Miss is certainly riding some good momentum after a tremendous win at Georgia. State needs to figure how to sustain play for than 12 minutes. Obviously emotion comes into play during this game and crowd will certainly be a factor. With that Let’s Go Dawgs!!!
  21. I know I am in the minority here but I just don’t think State is going to quite be at the level as we are being ranked. Most of the time the baseball gods find a way to stymie first year head coaches. Now I know that times are different and there is really no team development anymore. You just plunk guys out of the portal and try to sign some good HS players and keep them from going pro. And then it is a crapshoot during the season. I am definitely a O’Connor fan but I would advise our folks to pump the brakes a bit and let the team play some games and gel. And hopefully not jumping off the cliff when we lose some games early. I agree that I am surprised that Ole Miss is not ranked. I have always been a Coach Bianco fan and have never understood all criticism he gets from the Ole Miss folks. And ditto to Southern Miss. Just consistently good every year in baseball. They have a nice ball park in Pete Taylor Park and a solid loyal fan base.
  22. Hard to understand. Play very well for about 12 minutes and build a 14 point lead. And then poof , the team just melts like the Wicked Witch of the West.
  23. But as usual Kentucky is kryptonite to State. For the last 15 years they seem to play their best against us and we lose to them Like clockwork.
  24. But they still have to finish. Miami is down there with Michigan as the two teams I dislike the most. So hope Indiana beats them to a pulp like they have Bama & Oregon.
  25. Have to give props to Ohio State. They played Indiana to a 13-10 loss. That is looking better and better these days.
