  1. USM definitely is building a nice resume. They need treat the SBC teams like they are a SEC team and not let some of them slip up on them. Obviously they are going to lose some games but hopefully they will not get complacent. State’s pitching is definitely a weakness. Though with the way we hit the ball, we will not be out of many games even if we are down. Excellent comeback tonight against Tulane after being down 7-2 in the seventh and seemingly completely out of the game. Ole Miss looks good as well. Really good pitching but the bats have been a bit quiet so far.
  2. Not so fast my friend. Gotta play tonight first. Arkansas State is a good team. Beat Arky earlier in the season and had one run loss to Ole Miss. They are not chopped liver by any means.
  3. One of the CB gurus was poo pooing midweek losses on STM the other day. But losing OOC games can cost you a Regional Host or a top 8 seed. You can afford a few but if you already have 5-6-7 losses before conference play starts, you are already behind the proverbial 8 ball. These OOC games are crucial to being considered for top 16 or 8 seed.
  4. Should be a good matchup with Tulane in BIX Tuesday. Need to win that game and get ready for a tough trip to FYV to start conference play.
  5. Mercifully State & Ole Miss’ seasons will end Tuesday. Lots of regrouping ahead for both Jans & Beard. Both are excellent coaches so I have confidence they will both have better teams next year.
  6. I would agree with you. We don’t have a Jonathan Holder or Landon Sims type guy. When you brought those guys in it was over for the other team. This appears to be a bullpen by committee. Which as you noted, in tight games, can be very worrisome. But we will see if someone emerges in the days ahead to be that shut down pitcher.
  7. Different circumstances but there are some parallels to the Gillard case that Coach Tyler went to court with NCAA 50+ years ago. He was declared suspended for one season because he received a discount at a clothing store in Starkville that gave the same discount to all students. Coach Tyler got the injunction because the ruling was so egregious. But two plus years later, incredibly the NCAA somehow won the appeal and State was forced to forfeit 19 wins and two ties from 1975-77. So with the NCAA nothing would surprise me about all this.
  8. Nicholls beat Tulane last week. Most smaller schools can beat one of the bigger boys in a one game scenario. Lipsomb was competitive with State tonight and I think they had 12 hits. Not surprising at all that USM lost. They were going to be flat as a pancake after the win over State.
  9. Tough loss but not necessarily a bad thing at all. UCLA is really good but we are equally as good. Each team had some early season hiccups but some of that will get cleaned up as the season progresses. Plus a bit of bad luck as well. A great game nonetheless. Fans got more than their moneys’ worth. Intriguing match up with USM Tuesday. Weather looks to be beautiful. Might be a record crowd at the Pete. Both teams are playing some outstanding baseball.
  10. UCLA has dominated Tennessee & A&M so they are very formidable. Will be a good chance to see how we will fare against an equally talented club. Coach O’Connor said the bullpen is in good shape and Stone is going to be the starter. And I am sure that UCLA has some good bullets in their pitching staff as well since they have been barely even tested so far. On the one hand I could potentially see a low scoring game but most likely I think we will see a moderate number of runs. Potentially a 6-5 type game unless one team has a big inning and blows it open. We will see. Looking forward to the match-up!!!
  11. Can State just forfeit the rest of the season? This team has completely checked out. Getting run out of our own gym by a mediocre Missouri team by 20+ points barely ten minutes into the game.
  12. Good start to the weekend for State. Tough break for the ASU pitcher not being able to continue because of cramps. Heart breaking loss for Ole Miss in 10 innings against Baylor. USM with a solid road win at LaTech.
  13. Yes we have an occasional win followed by numerous losses followed a random win followed by more multiple losses. Am I repeating myself here? And the icing on the cake is it appears that State - Ole Miss may face each other in the first round of the SEC tournament.
  14. As a State alum/fan, I don’t think you will see Ole Miss fall off the table like State did with Moorhead in 2018. But most likely equaling the last season is unrealistic. The expectation of wins/losses is very difficult to ascertain. The talent is excellent and with Chambliss at QB the season is bright. A bit of caution is Chambliss having the season again this year that he just had this past season will probably not happen. Teams will scheme him differently and he will not have the advantage of being unknown. Confidence can be a fragile commodity in college football. Winning is contagious to winning as is losing is to losing as well. Golding handled the end of the season and the playoffs very well. How that carries over to 2026 will answer the question of how well Ole Miss performs this year.
  15. Very impressive weekend for USM. State and Ole Miss need to take care of business tomorrow against SEMO and AP. Then focus on what will be a big weekend for both. USM hosts Bama tomorrow in what should be a very competitive game. And then travel to La. Tech who is always good. Very good to see our teams playing well early in the season.
  16. Excellent win for USM and especially for the bus drivers as they keeping creeping closer to being a Regional Host this season.
  17. Actually attended my first game in the new Dude yesterday afternoon/evening. It is amazing. I had walked in and looked around when it was empty previously. So I can now say I have attended games in the Old Dudy Noble (1967-1986), the first Grandstand Dudy Noble (1987-2018) and now this absolute gem. Regarding hitting, the ball does not carry as well early in the season at the Dude. Two or three balls probably would have been home runs later in the year were warning track outs last night. We handled business very well last night. Need to keep that approach.
  18. Murphy missing the dunk is karma. If you remember last year against Bama, he missed a wide open layup that would have tied the game in the last seconds of the game. Of course it was at the opposite end of the coliseum. Definitely has not been a good year but credit to Hubbard and our players for not throwing in the towel. Just glanced at our schedule. @SCAR, @Bama, @FL and Mizzou & GA at home. Realistically 3-2 is the best record I see there. That would put us 8-10, 16-15 overall. We would have to win one-two SECT games to make the NIT. Lot to ask for. Cohen is one sandwich short of a picnic. Auburn definitely did us a favor by taking him away. The Auburn coaching switcheroo right before the season started was weird and now it’s biting them in the butt.
  19. No telling what happens in the second half but Hubbard with 35 in the first half and State leads by 15 at the half. Unbelievable.
  20. I kind of equate this with the blind squirrel finally finds a nut. Don’t expect it to lead to anything further. And 83, you are correct that these two teams are bad. Maybe not as bad as OK, LSU & SCAR but not much better than either of them.
  21. Hofstra’s pitching has been pretty good through two games. Have to give them some credit. First game of the DH has been much better for State. Good solid job through 8 innings.
  22. State @ Ole Miss tomorrow night. I will go back to my mantra. One team will lose this game and one team will not lose this game. I will say State has about 75% of losing and Ole Miss has about a 75% of chance of not losing. And that is being conservative, probably more like 85-90% if we are being honest.
  23. UC-Santa Barbara with a 5-1 win. Of course those West Coast teams are always solid. Hopefully USM can bounce back tomorrow.
  24. Not at a very auspicious start for STATE. Totally outplayed but we did win 6-5. So there is that I suppose.
