Handbook says if you go independent it can only be for two years unless you go independent in all sports. I doubt Murrah is Independent agai due to this.

Unless politics comes into play you gotta think the 7 coast schools are a region and the rest stay like they have been in 7A.

This will become a nightmare for scheduling. Football will have an additional Region game and either have to give up a bye or in the case of the top end teams, one of their big money draw games. Baseball already plays more Region games than 3 does, because they play everyone 3 times for 15 Region games out of their 28 (which needs to be increased on a sidenote). Basketball will become a mess of redoing the Region tourney for 7 teams instead of 6. There should be some way to break the tie and send one down to keep it as was originally pitched.

I was sent a photo yesterday from a coach that showed this exactly with Purvis and South Jones rounding out the Region.

A region with THAT combination of 6 schools would be a gauntlet for baseball and completely up for grabs in football.  Vancleave, EC, Purvis, Sumrall, South Jones, Stone - PHEW !!

But realistically that would place Wayne County out on quite an island in R3-5A.

I doubt they'd let Region 8 above go with a 4 team football division would they?

Yes currently 2 regions in 2A North have the same region setup with Ingomar and New Site. I would think 41 schools in 3A will take care of this. Meridian and Murrah being tied may have affected the split. These issues will probably be discussed at the table. We may have a school to move up.

Amite County can still move up to 3A and West Tallahatchie move up to 2A. The director is the power broker in this according to the handbook. He has the power for class and region placement. If any changes are going to be made then he will have to listen to board members. Both tied schools can still come back petition this is our actual numbers and 1 drops to 6A.

If this is in fact "the" list, I would put Murrah as 6A and allow for the Jackson schools to be grouped together as much as possible and if there are in fact 25 7A, let West Harrison play with the coast teams for a 7 team region. The association has always been more rigid than necessary when it comes to making teams play up or down slightly if it helps with travel or being placed in a particular division and also obsessed with keeping an equal number of teams as much as possible. . If the school is on the line or no more than 2 or 3 difference, it has no bearing over if they have an advantage.

Given OLA and New Site don't play football, I'd also have 41 schools each in 3A and 2A.

(of course if I were in charge we would only have 5 classes but oh well lol).

7 classes makes it hard for 1 A schools to find opponents.

With 7 teams someone will be open every week. They will have to find a 4A, 3A, 2A, maybe 1A opponent. I doubt they'll drop below 3A for that open date opponents.

Those look agreeable but they make too much sense so I think the MHSAA will definitely screw it up

Once before they sent Scott Central, Philadelphia, Union, etc north. 2 years later they sent Pelahatchie, Puckett, and Pisgah North. It want make sense putting Eupora and Bruce in the south to me but nothing surprises me snymore.

2-5A (Provine, Vicksburg, Lanier, Holmes Co Central, Florence, Cleveland Central)

Have you seen the Regions on paper. Everyone knows PCS is most likely taking Tylertown's spot. There should have been 41 in 3A.

I do believe PCS is going to region 8.I don't believe West Marion is leaving region 8

It's already tough for the 7A schools to find quality opponents. Very few teams below 6A are willing to play them now. I don't see it getting any better, at least not for football. The other sports it's not as big of an issue outside of game restrictions and adding additional Region games.

I think the last scenario you posted for 2A was pretty likely scenario. It’s the only thing that makes the most sense geographically

Couple Observations:

I have South 5A this same way.

Florence to Cleveland on a week nite for basketball or softball is an unforgiving trip !!
