I thought speculation was what this boards function was.

I agree. Like I say what was posted on page 12 is the new classes for next year that someone posted from one of the AD's. It's unofficial until MHSAA posted it on their website. There should soon a called meeting to approve this and regions.

yes sir, i agree. it seems to get folks more in a wad when  facts that can be proven are mentioned.  I know 1 school which reported their  numbers and then had 2 kids move out the very next week.  said school then did the proper leg work and notified the mhsaa and  then officially had only 1 student subtracted from the  original number. makes no sense and they weren't given much of an explanation as to why both students who moved out were not deducted from the original figure.  plus, I'm looking at one  5A and one 4A football HC opening on the very near future.  I'll save the locations for later since we are supposed to be speculating.

If 1 or 2 kids will throw you to another class then it matters. I was told that all students class schedule  has to be turned in to MDE. I think you get a week to protest your numbers. My guess is that is why you don't see MHSAA having this posted just yet. They will probably post it along with regions for most sports soon.

You asked for an east to west alignment.  I gave you two classes. Now you see why they don't go that route. Region 1 has always started in NE Ms. Region 2 has always been south of Memphis or south of Tupelo. Region 3 has always been in the Delta. Region 4 in Starkville area. In 4A recently Region 4 north of I-20. Now that Region will be Region 5. Region 5-8 from Meridian,  then Jackson, SW Ms, Hattiesburg  area and last the coast.

Not by you . By what the MHSAA would go with.

Speculation is not what this board is all about as you put above.

You bounce around in these threads without ever really saying anything. I thought you were  someone just playing obtuse to get a rise out of people before but it’s becoming apparent your comprehension skills are not very good. Something’s off

Just an everyday person. Not trying to get a rise out of anyone.

speculation seems to work better since facts that can be proven irritate.

Yes u can't use a East to West alignment for travel purposes alone. You have to start in 1 corner of the state Region purposes. You have to speculate until the regions and classes are posted. Then you have population shifts around Memphis, Jackson, and the Coast that has changed everything.

My point (obviously to most) would not to have an alignment with Starkville and a coast team in the same region... that's idiotic, but to have an East/West rather than a North/South basis for determining Semi-finals.

It's simply a query (look that up) as whether there might be a different way of approaching things.

Obtuse is a good word.

The way the association works is all proposals for change comes from 8 District meetings meeting several times throughout the year. Once passed at the district level then it goes to the association office for discussion and approval times 2 at the board meetings. You have to put a word in to your coaches or administrators. I don't believe there will ever a true East and west set up for the playoffs. I believe it's a 3 year rotation where the following exist:

Year 1.             Year 2.          Year 3

R1 vs R2        R1 vs R3.     R1 vs R4

R3 vs R4        R2 vs R4.     R2 vs R3

R5 vs R6.       R5 vs R7.     R5 vs R8

R7 vs R8.       R6 vs R8.     R6 vs R7

From an east to west that is about as East to west you can get. In most classes:

Region 1 Tupelo area

Region 2 Batesville or Amory areas

Region 3 Delta or Southern Delta

Region 4 Starkville to I-20

Region 5 Meridian west Mendenhall

Region 6 Jackson or Brookaven areas

Region 7 Brookhaven or Hattiesburg areas

Region 8 Coastal or northward

And yes 6 or 7 classes have screwed this up. For Example currently Class 4A R4 is Meridian to Kosciusko. It now looks like next year that will R5 in 4A.

when will this be official and they compete athletically as one?

It will be one school. The families have already been presented the architectural drawings of the new school. I think the next step will be bidding and then accepting the bid. 1 new school, 4 buildings, 43 million to build. We will lose 2 schools in the consolidation. Yes they will compete as 1 in sports but as to when is TBD.

I can tell you one thing. They need somebody with half a brain to draw up these divisions. I was just looking at some of the matchups from this past weekend and there's no way some of the teams are in the right North/South area. Not real hard to put pins in maps and sort it out

1A-4A has 40 schools each. 2A and 4A Region 4 schools are in Forest to Meridian to Kosciusko areas in recent years. There is only like 10 1A schools south of I-20.

I'm glad Leflore County is moving forward with consolidation and has the bond backing to help them get it built. Too many schools are in terrible condition physically and new spaces are needed.

I don't think bigger is necessarily better but our state just has too many small schools in aging and poor condition that are very close to one another. It makes sense from a financial and logistical standpoint to combine some of them.

This is yet another reason why 7 classes isn't necessary in a state with a shrinking public school count and total student population.

So on a North/South alignment with 25 7A teams, are you thinking it'll look like this?

R1: Desoto, Southaven, Horn Lake, Oxford, Lewisburg, Hernando (6 teams, no change)

R2: Tupelo, Starkville, Murrah, Germantown, Clinton, Madison Central (6 teams, addition of Murrah)

R3: Brandon, Meridian, NWR, Pearl, Petal, OG (6 teams, no change)

R4: Gulfport, Biloxi, Harrison Central, St. Martin, West Harrison, D'Iberville, Ocean Springs (7 teams, addition of West Harrison)

That actually makes sense, but we'll see how it pans out though.

I cannot see any of the R4 teams clammoring to go to R3, which would mean more travel AND yearly matchups with OG & Brandon.

And the R1 teams seems solid due to geography. So the only changes would have to come in the R2/R3, and those are just geographical decisions. So I can't see any logical changes here to add a 7th team anywhere but R4.

But yeah, to your point... the MHSAA doesn't always make the most sense. We'll see.
