  1. This game was huge in 1988. I was there. As a matter of fact I went to all of the ones in Mobile when they used to play in June. The game was very competitive when it first started. The first few actually went into overtime. But over the years Alabama grew in population but Miss. really didn't and you could really tell Alabama's coaches were much more sophisticated and while Miss. had great athletes, they usually got out coached and lost. Also, when the games first started, neither Mobile or Montgomery had college bowl games like they do now. And the game had much more interest in Alabama. It did help interest in Miss. when they starting playing some of the games in Miss. And while the move to December made sense football wise it just really became pushed to the back with all the other football going on in Dec. And now that high school players are not as important to colleges as in the past with the portal, the interest in even further eroded. So yes, I could see the States eventually pulling the plug on this game.
  2. why are the announcers saying Hattiesburg hasn't won a title in 100 years?
  3. that's 4 golden triangle teams 3 pine belt teams 3 delta teams 2 three rivers teams 1 jackson area team 1 coast team
  4. i agree with no whammies picks. Class 3 and 7 could be close. Very confident about Heidelberg, Louisville & Hattiesburg
  5. Brandon vs Tupelo Hattiesburg vs Grenada Gautier vs West Point ? vs ? Poplarville vs Louisville Heidelburg vs Charleston Simmons vs ?
  6. how old are those maps? There's not even any interstates on them.
  7. that's 140 in the north, 100 in the south
  8. eventually Collins/Mount Olive/Seminary all might be merged into Covington Co. Seminary would probably fight it. Mount Olive is really got too small to continue as a school.
  9. If that winds up what happens then that's about the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. None of it would make any sense logically. If you got to have a 7 team region then region 4 would make the most sense, however a case could be made for region 1 to be 7 teams with Oxford up there. But it would make ZERO sense for region 2 or 3 to be 7 teams. Whatever happens, this will be the last 2 years Meridian will be in 7A. It's shrinking fast and the 9th grade number is much lower than the 11th grade number.
  10. Having 6 team divisions with 4 making the playoffs is a joke! Under no circumstances should more than half of the teams make the playoffs. It just waters down the playoffs and results in all these 50-0 games.
  11. That's my point, use other factors like location and competitiveness in addition to school size. I didn't include NE jones because its a little too small and not as competitive as the other teams.
  12. How about this district: Meridian Laurel Hattiesburg Wayne Co West Jones South Jones That would be a great combination of teams. All along I59 and lots of old rivalries included. And most of this teams are competitive with each other.
  13. I think a classification committee should be formed and determine class/districts by a combination of attendance/location/competitiveness. This would make things much more competitive and travel would be reduced.
  14. just flip a coin between Meridian and Murrah and let winner move down to 6A. Problem solved.
  15. put them with the coast trio ( Stone, Vancleve,East Cent.)
  16. how do you break the tie between Meridian and Murrah?
  17. Laurel South Jones NE Jones Wayne Co Sumrall Purvis will all be 5A Dist 3
  18. The same thing that's happening in Laurel is also happening in Meridian, maybe only worse!
  19. I think it's just lazy to base classes solely on enrollment. You can't expect teams like Jackson city schools to be able to compete with Madison cent or Brandon as an example.
