  1. That’s nonsense. That’s the excuse these bigger schools use to recruit… “these kids just want exposure”. It’s not 1998 anymore. If a player is good, they will get exposure even if they play 1A ball. The internet has made the whole “exposure” talking point a myth.
  2. Possibly. They made a lot of really bad hires in administration for a few years and that’s set them way back. You can’t lose your school. Once the school goes, the town eventually goes too. And it’s almost impossible to ever restore it
  3. And? If it’s not such a big deal your school wouldn’t be using it as a recruiting tool
  4. Everybody knew Tristan Keys was gonna be the next big thing when he was in Pee Wee.
  5. Youth football in Mississippi has become an absolute circus with recruiting. It’s digusting what these “adults” are doing to a child’s game.
  6. There are some that you know will be studs. And yes they absolutely do recruit them. At Hattiesburg they even find houses for them at good prices to move to, and even try to find jobs for their parents. And there’s nothing illegal about that. As long as the player moves into the district, it’s fine. But there are some of those kids that move into the district initially, then eventually move back out of the district but keep going to school at Hattiesburg.
  7. They use their youth league to do alot of recruiting. Them, oak grove, and Columbia had been doing it for a while. Scott central used to do it too, they poached alot of players from Forest. That’s when Scott central got really good in 2A and won some state championships and Forest was suffering for a little bit. Forest now has kind of put the clamps on it.
  8. The kid from north Forrest is a RB, and they recruited him 2 years ago.
  9. He went to school in Taylorsville in elementary school, but he stayed in trouble and was always being suspended and failing class. The superintendent at that time then made him go to Mize, hoping it would give him a fresh start and help the kid. Well it worked. He became a better student, made better grades, and got in less trouble. He was a really good young athlete. Agee has been trying to convince him to come back to Tville for a couple years. But this last year as a true freshmen he was upset that he wasn’t playing as much as he thought he should be playing and started telling everybody he was gonna go back to Tville, and he is. He’s not been to any practices because I think he may be playing travel baseball but you will see him eventually. As for the other players he’s tried to recruit from Mize, it’s our best player Gray and our QB/LB Agee. He’s also buddies with a guy from Magee that’s also tried to recruit those players for him. This guy (his friend) has been trying to convince different players to leave Mize for a couple years with no success, mostly to Simpson academy, including my son who will also be a senior next year, and that I would never allow to happen anyway. Kind of disappointed to see it happen, because our head coach has always liked Agee and has a lot of good things to say about him. But I guess that’s what high school sports has become now. Everybody recruits now I guess.
  10. Speaking of recruiting, Taylorsville’s head coach has been working his butt off in recruiting and it’s finally paid off a little bit. He has been trying to recruit a handful of mize kids for a couple years now and he finally convinced one of our better 10th graders to move. The only reason he will get away with this one is because the kid already lives in Taylorsville and always has. The former superintendent a few years ago moved him to Mize basically to rehab him because he stayed in trouble in Tville and was failing while in elementary school. He came to Mize a few years ago and turned everything around. Agee has been trying to get him back at Tville for a while now and he finally got him. He’s a good athlete, hopefully for him he doesn’t fall back into old habits now that he’s back at Tville.
  11. Whether or not they should, they ain’t gonna mess with them, IMO
  12. Smith county will never consolidate all 3 schools, and they shouldn’t. There is no reason to. Mize is one of the best schools in the entire state, and Raleigh also is one of the better schools. They aren’t struggling academically and don’t have any behavioral issues whatsoever. Taylorsville is the only school that’s struggling. They actually have shown a lot of improvement the last couple of years compared to where they were a few years ago, but again once those parents move out and no new parents move in, it’s hard to get a school back to where it once was. It’s almost impossible. Unless new parents start moving into Tville, the school isn’t going to improve enough. And nobody is trying to move their kids into the school. If anything, more and more parents are trying to get them into mize or Sylva bay.
  13. The question is what schools consolidate with who? Seminary ain’t gonna allow consolidation with mount olive and collins. So mount olive would just have to consolidate with collins alone. Taylorsville eventually is going to have to consolidate with somebody but I think that’s still several years away. Once you allow a school to go down it’s almost impossible to save it. And Tville went down super fast, almost like it was overnight. Now nobody wants to move into the town because they don’t want their kids to go to school there.
  14. I don’t think Choctaw central will be affected.
  15. Hattiesburg is 100% one of the biggest recruiting schools in the MHSAA, at least in the South. Heidelberg also does a lot of recruiting from Quitman and Waynesboro. Maybe the new wayne county coach will put a stop to it. Until the mhsaa grows a sack and does something to stop it, these schools are going to keep doing it too. It’s pretty much open season. But the kid from Brandon was definitely legit, that wasn’t a recruiting deal.
  16. This also is not accurate. Heidelberg’s JV and junior high are both very good.
  17. She’s a chick bro. And I’m sure she’s a great basketball coach. I just don’t think ladies should be an AD personally.
  18. So y’all had a chick as your AD? That answers all kinds of questions that I previously had about Wayne county athletics
  19. I don’t dispute that. Defensively last season you could tell Heidelberg was able to just out athlete almost everybody they played. They were not very fundamentally sound. They were just superior athletically to everybody else out there. Many times they were out of position and just out there playing
  20. Heidelberg was used to jumping on teams early and having them lay down and quit. East Webster had 18 seniors, which was actually 1 more senior than Heidelberg had. They were a veteran team that had played for a 3A north championship the year before. They were not shell shocked by Heidelberg and actually had a couple athletes that were better than what Heidelberg had. Their OL and DL line was tougher, and their WR couldn’t be guarded.
  21. The scores of a lot of their games last year were misleading. They would be up 40-0 at halftime in a lot of games, and that’s very impressive. But any other coach would use the 2nd half as an opportunity for the JV to get playing time, gain some game experience. Heidelberg however would keep their starters in until midway thru the 4th quarter and would still be throwing deep bombs trying to run the score up as much as they could. I mean, we were beating Lake 42-0 at halftime last year in the 1st round. We could have won 70-0 if we wanted to. But our starters sat the 2nd half and we won 49-12
  22. They didn’t even win 2A last year.
  23. Games like that are hard to gauge anyway because the bigger school doesn’t really get up for it that much, while the smaller school comes out with something to prove
