I don’t know who ends up drawing the short straw but somebody is going to feel like they got robbed out of a host spots. The week started with 7-8 teams fighting for 2 or 3 spots and other than Bama, all of those teams keep winning.

yeah, and it's a big deal too, when you consider that nearly 70% of regionals are won by the host team.

There will be some outrage for sure come Monday @ noon.

Florida State has fallen in the 30% category before.  Could they help get it to 31%?  Time will tell.

I haven’t kept up with much this year except final scores and the standings.  OM looked really good yesterday though, and if they can get good outings by their starters they can be dangerous.  Good bullpen and lots of power at the plate.

Vandy is helping them out this morning, so if they win today a host spot looks probable.

Ole Miss and Southern Miss were projected hosts coming into today, both teams won today. Both teams SHOULD be a lock to host but you never know.

Projections are showing 9 SEC teams hosting, the record is 8. With 2 added teams this year along with the strong year by the conference, 9 sounds right.

The margins are still really tight for those last couple of spots and it’s unclear how much weight will be put on conference tourneys.

I agree that Ole Miss SHOULD host. But emphasis on the word should. If USM beats Coastal tomorrow, I absolutely agree that they SHOULD also host. Again, emphasis on the word should.

Just last year you had two hosts in East Carolina and Arizona that were VERY shaky at best. State and Duke both thought they got hosed last year. Doesn’t mean it will happen again, but you just don’t know until the sites are announced.

There are only 16 host sites but there are more than 16 host-worthy resumes, that’s just the fact of the matter.

If you made me call it today, I think Ole Miss, Tennessee, and USM all host. Which means two of Georgia Tech, TCU, and UCLA won’t be. And included in those three teams is the ACC regular season champ, the Big 10 co-champ that is in the tourney finals tomorrow, and the team that has the best resume in the Big 12 and is leading in their tourney championship right now.

It’s a really tough call for those last few spots.

I think Tennessee played themselves out of a host slot. Which means only one of the three aforementioned GT, UCLA or TCU will get hosed.
Again my opinion only.
State will be a Three Seed and it will be interesting to see where we end up.
Props to Ole Miss for showing up and playing well this week. Should be a good game tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how each coach manages their respective pitching staffs.
I am thinking you may see a lot of arms pitch on both sides.

I just don’t think Auburn is quite as good as their metrics say they are. I know on paper and generally on the field they have played well but I don’t get the sense that they are not beatable in a Regional. Just something about them that makes me think they are vulnerable.

Oxford would be a NO since we are conference opponents. Hattiesburg is a possibility but I am sure USM does not want State in their Regional.
Will be interesting to see where we end up.

I’ll play devil’s advocate, I also do not want to see southern miss on the schedule

State in the Florida State regional, that's winnable.

Matchup with Northeastern is interesting. They are 48-9 and 25-2 in conference. Obviously, overall strength of schedule is probably nowhere near what State went through, they still won and played very well overall. Pitching stats are impressive for them as well. They do have a higher RPI than State I found.

Fascinating matchup. Northeastern’s stats and record are very impressive, but no idea how good they actually are. I presume State will throw Pico in that game and they will definitely need a good performance from him.

And if State wins, they get to face one of the best aces in the country on Saturday with Jamie Arnold (assuming FSU beats Bethune Cookman)

It is always an interesting option for the one seed as to whether to hold your ace for game two or throw him in game one. Certainly there is a lot of reasons to hold him unless it backfires on you and you lose game one.
Personally, you have to win game one before you can win game two. Putting the cart before the horse can put you on thin ice.

For State, we need to play well and win this first game. Nothing comes easy in a Regional. Northeastern may not have name recognition but we all know smaller schools can play some excellent baseball. One silver lining is maybe they are due for a loss….LOL…,with a twenty-seven game winning streak on the line.

State is a 3 seed, you kinda lose the luxury of holding your ace when, on paper, you aren’t even one of the two best teams in your regional. That said, does State have a true ace? Pico is the Friday night guy and I feel pretty confident he starts this game, but he has been pretty average at best for about two months.

That stadium is VERY hitter friendly so State is probably going to have to slug their way out of this weekend to have a chance. And they do have the offensive firepower to do it, I believe. But just not sure they have the pitching depth.

Looking at the overall bracket, I don’t see how the SEC doesn’t have 5 or 6 teams in Omaha. With 6 national seeds and two of those being paired with other SEC hosts, I mean you can kinda see where this is headed. And that’s not even counting any of the 2 or 3 seeds that aren’t hosting but are capable of getting hot and making a deep run.

There is a mathematical chance for all 8 spots to be SEC teams… But it would require State and Oklahoma getting to Omaha and I don’t feel great about either of those teams’ paths.
