Baseball Season 2025

I don’t remember the site TBH but I’ve seen at least one site that has State with the top ranked portal class in the country so far. I think they are still hunting a middle infielder and a few other “best available” types but they’ve definitely stacked some big bats this offseason. On top of returning Reese and a few others. Probably going to be a preseason Top 10 team next year. They haven’t gotten EVERYBODY that hit the portal from Virginia but they’ve gotten a handful of them and waiting to hear on the draft with a couple of others.

A couple of observations from me.

1. Will sweet NIL deals influence more HS draftees to go to college instead of straight to the Bigs (Minor Leagues)?

2. I thought O’Connor’s comment recently was poignant. To paraphrase, he said it will take up to 3 years to get the program to where he wants it. He alluded that while the transfer portal is important, the bread and butter of your ball club is still developing your own talent in-house.

All that said, I don’t think we will be a top ten program next year. This year we were around 30-35. Next year I think we will be a top twenty-five program. The following year a top fifteen program and then after that, look out. We will be a force to be reckoned with.
O’Connor is an excellent coach but we are not going to jump to the top ten overnight. There is still a process and it is going to take a year or two to get where we all want to be.

Overall I agree totally but his 26 team will have a stacked team offensively. The iffy part will be how well the pitching is for an entire season and that in itself will be what determines whether msu baseball is better than a top 25 rank.

Ace Reese staying at State after a last minute push from LSU, supposedly.

We will see what the draft does for both teams. State got some portal commits that could opt to go pro. Ole Miss has several guys from last year’s team that are iffy on whether or not they’ll be back.

Hunter Elliott returning to OM for 2026. Significant news in Oxford for next season. I think the rest of the draft has been a mixed bag for OM.

State has had mixed results too. Siary will go pro and the portal pitcher from Rice will as well. But doing well otherwise, including potentially retaining some high profile signees.
