That boat has left the dock, I am afraid. We had an opportunity to hire Chris Jones five years ago and did not. That was a poor, poor decision at the time.

As much as I love Demetrius Hill and what has meant for Meridian High over the last 35-40 years, I am not sure he would be the right choice.

Cheyenne is an excellent AD and I believe he will make a good choice here. I am disappointed that we did not turn the corner this year with Douglass but the football program is in better shape today than it was in 2019. As to who that new Coach will be, I have no idea or inkling but I will hope it will prove to be the right choice over time. I will always be a Wildcat.

Tony Vance- Could leave Hattiesburg. Him and Trussell have a relationship from Hattiesburg but is that enough to pull him away.

Chris Jones- Again another person has a relationship with, but he is at an established program that is winning and what would really pull him away from that.

Randall Montgomery- He would love this job and may have a chance at it.

Dark Horses- Damian Gary (Hazelhurst), Rashad Gandy (Quitman) Teddy young (Noxubee) maybe a few other guys

I agree with a lot of these.  I seriously doubt Chris Jones would be in the mix.  He has a good thing going at Starkville.  I am thinking if its anyone from Starkville, it will be one of the assistants.

I dont think Coach Vance will leave. HHS is going to have a chance to make some noise next season in the new 6a class. HHS returns nearly everyone on offense and will have their top RB back after missing his entire JR season.

I agree with you Wildcats and Vott those are just names that may be interested. I think both got pretty good situations where they are at. Both may have some critics where they are but, they also have pretty good situations and I'm sure the money is fairly comparable between those 3 schools.

Meridian has had a lot of success in the past and a ton of history but they have not been relevant in a while. Last won a championship in 2008 when Tyler Russell and the wildcats upset South Panola. Haven't won a District Championship since 2011. I agree, Cheyenne may be one of the best A.D's in the state. He will get this hire right for sure! It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I read this board often but never post until now. As a graduate of Meridian and parent of 3 sons who have gone through the program, this team just needs someone who will care about them as people and players. Someone like an Ed Stanley, Larry Weems, Mac Barnes. I remember when Meridian was arguably the premier school in the state when it came to football and we are one more bad hire away from being one of the worst in the state. The city, school and young men on the team need Meridian Football to be relevant again. It should make people in charge sick to see Meridian Football in this shape.
