Unfortunately the demographics have changed so much in the last 20 years in Meridian that it will be hard to get the program turned around to the former status quo. Even with Larry Weems on staff the success just was not there. Boyles aint coming to Meridian. It is about the toughest district in the state schedule wise as well.

Tough job yes, but I am not buying the demographics.  That is just an excuse.  Cheyenne Trussell will find the right guy for the job.   He is by far the best AD in the state to work for.  I wouldn't be surprised if he lures Tony Vance out of Hattiesburg.

That would be a good hire.

@Votthave you heard anything about Vance leaving?

If I was Meridian, I would call Tony Vance and ask what his price would be, and give it to him. I do not know if he would even be interested, but I would make him tell no thanks.

From what I hear I don't think Hattiesburg care if Vance leave.

They should pay top dollar for a coach that has one playoff win in the past 4 years? I don't get it.

Tony Vance is a great coach and motivator. A community/school like Meridian in my opinion needs a strong African-American coach that has experience and success as a head coach and lead teams through adversity. Tony Vance fits that bill. You are correct, he has just one playoff win in the last four seasons. However, looking back over the last few seasons, his squads were decimated with injuries at key positions. Yet guided both teams to the playoffs the last two years and won a region crown this past year. Yes they got bounced in the 1st round this year so I understand your point and your thinking. I just believe big picture and rebuilding Meridian back to a consistent competitor, Tony Vance is a guy that could do that. He would bring consistency and discipline to the program and his offenses are always usually solid.

If Vance left for Meridian, would the Little Brown Jug game ever be played again? I would hate to see that come to an end

Or would the Little Brown Jug be a new game with Meridian vs Laurel?

IMO,I think we should go after an offensive coordinator from a successful program(OG,Brandon,Starkville,Madison Central etc.).  We made the mistake of not hiring Starkville head coach,Chris Jones,in 2017 and we haven't been competitive since.  I'm not a fan of hiring Vance.

I understand that, but sometimes who you would be a fan of hiring would turn out to do a worse job than the one you were not a fan of hiring. Biggest thing for Meridian is stability and discipline. They need someone who can come in and establish that culture and rally the kids in the school and community to play football and build it.
