Dawg83
State and Prairie View tied at half, Prairie View had a 15 point lead. Very weird performance from State. You may recall they lost to a SWAC team right around this time last year. Would be an atrocious loss, gotta have a better second half. Bulldogs4
This loss would be even more atrocious than Southern last year. That team had a pulse. State is a 38.5 point favorite today. Losing today would be the worst loss in history.
Dawg83
State won by 7. Pretty rough defensive day to give up 84 to a SWAC team.
Bulldogs4
At the end of the day it was a win. College basketball and baseball can see a lowly team beat a much better team on a given day. Hopefully, our players learned a good lesson and they will carry it forward as a harsh reminder on what can happen when you play lackadaisical. Dawg83
Jans confirmed today that Clary is out a while with a leg injury. Don’t think he’s played since Butler anyway but still, that stings a little. Fortunately State does have some guard depth but it’s a little less now. NoWammies
If you enjoy watching college basketball other than just your team then today is a good day for you. Dawg83
State is playing a doubleheader in Tupelo today. Women play Belmont then men play Will Wade’s McNeese squad. McNeese was a 30 win tourney team last year, perhaps not as good this year but not a bad test at all. State could lose if they leave the defense at home again. NoWammies
Ole Miss up 38-28 at the half. Started out with a big lead and since, Beard has tried out a bunch of different lineups to get guys minutes who usually doesn’t get many. I expected that with USM being down two of their best players. USM is fighting though and doing a good job of not letting the game get too out of hand. Ole Miss has been helped out from Pedulla having the hot hand from the outside hitting 5 of 7 from 3.
rebmus
Ole Miss dominated the second half. 77-46 final.
Dawg83
State struggling again. Down 5 to McNeese at the under 8 timeout. Just getting outplayed on both ends.
NoWammies
It was just an exhibition game for Ole Miss/Illinois and Illinois was replacing a lot of guys from last year but that blowout win against them before the season started is looking good right now as Illinois leads #1 Tennesse 60-57 with 3 mins left. I was skeptical when it happened.
NoWammies
Tennessee survives with a bucket at the buzzer to win 66-64.
Dawg83
State survived by 3. Toughened up on defense and made free throws down the stretch. Say what you want about Will Wade (and Buddy a lot can be said), but there’s no denying he’s a good coach. They really gave State fits, just maybe ran out of gas last 5 minutes. Bulldogs4
McNeese is a good ball club. They were 30-5 last season. I don’t care what conference you are in, that means you are a good team. Was not surprised that it was a tough game at all. Glad to win. And good to win these close games early in the season.
rebmus
Ole Miss and State win again tonight. It looks like a clean sweep for SEC teams playing tonight. Unless something changes, the SEC likely has the most teams in the NCAAT this year. VERY STRONG start for the conference teams.

They might break the record for most teams from one league in a single year. I believe the current record is 11 from the Big East in 2011….. Lunardi currently has 13 SEC teams projected to be in. Dawg83
Big big game tomorrow as State plays at Memphis. I’m guessing Memphis will be a slight favorite, but should be a very entertaining game and if State is able to win that would be massive for them. Still perplexed as to why State and Memphis have played so infrequently over the years. This will only be the third meeting in 40 years. Last two were the 2021 NIT finals and the 2008 NCAA tournament.
rebmus
I saw MSU handled Memphis 79-66, very nice win. Kudos.

That’s big if they can win without him going off against good teams.
Dawg83
Kugel had his best game of the season today. He’s probably the only potential NBA prospect on the team, so if State can get more consistency out of him they’ll really be cooking with grease. Also, the most underrated player in American might be Cam Matthews.
maroontide06
I saw where State moved up to 11th in the NET after beating Memphis. That was definitely a solid win and one that will look even better as the season progresses.
Insideradvantage
Good win for State. That said, I’m glad we didn’t talk Anfernee Hardaway into coming to Oxford when some wanted us to. We had to suffer through the Kermit years but nonetheless. Dude has a low ceiling.

Yeah there was a big coaching mismatch in State’s favor yesterday. Jans made Penny look pretty bad.
Dawg83
State is up to 11 in the NET now. You’re talking a 3 or 4 seed resume if they are able to stay at that level. Won’t be easy to do but they’ve already built a very strong resume with 12+ more chances for quality wins. Need to dodge one more bad loss possibility against Bethune Cookman on the 30th. Ole Miss is 30 in the NET but a chance for the same win State just got when they play in the Forum next week. Based on what I saw yesterday I do not at all hate OM’s chances to win that game. Looks like this season in Mississippi will be less about if the teams get in and more about how good of a seed you can get. Fun place to be in.
