College Basketball Season

I’ve got mixed emotions. I liked that we were able to come back but late in the game we relied to heavily on the 3 and it wasn’t falling. Giving up 2nd chance points has also been a killer too but Kaufman-Renn is a beast for Purdue. I came into this tournament skeptical because I still remember barely beating Grambling but they showed me they are def a top 25 team. Like I previously said we just gotta find a way to not start off slow putting ourselves in a hole.

State takes their first L too, just didn’t play very well against a good Butler team. Huge game at the Hump on Wednesday against Pitt. Defend home court there and you’re still in a strong spot.

Basically we got our a**es whipped tonight. But eventually you are going to lose a game. Credit to Butler for playing well. 
I agree the Pitt game is important as we need to protect the home court.

Butler worked State defensively. Had a ton of good looks. And State missed some opportunities on offense plus couldn’t buy a three in the first half.

Initial NET rankings just were released. State is 28, Ole Miss is 55. Both teams have Q1 opportunities this week, Ole Miss is at NET 30 Louisville and State hosts NET 5 Pitt.

 

The SEC is the highest ranked NET conference, 15 teams in the Top 62. Conference play is gonna be crazy. South Carolina is the only team right now with a problematic NET, they’re down at 135.

SEC with a 5-0 lead in the SEC/ACC Challenge. Ole Miss currently leads Louisville 40-31 at the half. We’ll see if they can hold on to it. Not bad to have a 9 point lead with Murray/Murrell only accounting for 7 points between the two. Hopefully Louisville continues with their 7% shooting from the 3 in 2H. Ole Miss hasn’t really been lighting it up either from the outside though shooting only 27%.

Ole Miss cruising over Louie-ville, up 24 late in the second half. Good win for OM and the SEC.

Ole Miss cruises to a 86-63 win and bounces back on the road to get a solid win. That now puts the SEC up 7-0 with 2 more possible wins coming up in a little bit with OU over Georgia Tech and LSU over FSU if both can hang on. A possible 10-0 first night sweep could happen if those two hang on and Kentucky outlast Clemson in a good battle right now. Should look good in March when bids are being looked at and how many from each conference gets in.

My gosh SEC play this year is gonna be unlike anything we’ve seen maybe ever.

SEC is now 9-0 with 7 of the 9 being double digit wins. About as dominant of a statement as one can make. UK/Clemson going to come down to the wire with Clemson currently up by 3 with 5 mins left.

UK blows a perfect night for the SEC but 9-1 isn’t too shabby. They beat Duke few weeks ago so I guess it evens out. On the season the SEC is 21-2 against ACC teams. The only other loss of the season was Pitt beating LSU.

Tomorrow night has two massive games (Bama-UNC and Auburn-Duke) and a pretty huge one at The Hump as No. 18 Pitt comes to Starkville.

Interested to see how Bama looks without Wrightsell who just suffered season ending ACL injury. Was averaging 11 points a game for them. Was going to be hard to get a win in Chapel Hill already. A chance for a bounce back signature win for the Tide after losing to Oregon this past Saturday. If Auburn were playing at home I think they’d blow Duke out but with it being in Cameron this should be a tight game but I still give the edge to Auburn unless they just have an off night. I think State playing at home will help them pull off a nice win against a ranked Pitt team. Both teams can put up some points so I expect it to be high scoring.

Ole Miss made a huge jump in a lot of metrics after last night. Now up into the 20’s in both NET and KenPom, literally neck and neck with State now in both.

Huge bounce back win for State after the Butler loss. Total domination against a very good team tonight.

14-1 with what looks like might end 14-2 unless Auburn pulls it out in last 3 mins. Who would’ve thought it would be UK and Auburn that suffered the two losses?

I mean just totally manhandled a very good Pitt team. Wow.

You could tell Jans had been preaching defense leading up to the game because State didn’t defend well on Saturday and then last night they were suffocating Pitt.

Another indicator for how good the SEC is…. State jumped up all the way to 10th in the NET…. And that’s still only 6th best in the SEC.

KY and Auburn played two really good teams on the road so understandable that they both lost though they were both hotly contested games.

Counting the spread 1-7 Prairie View was leading State 65-12 earlier in the 1st half. 

The point spread was 38 points.

State has closed the lead to 44-39 right before halftime.

i would imagine Coach Jans is about blow…

I guess these guys got fat and happy after beating Pitt the other night.
