Surely they won't resume two innings of play later on will they? Suspended? There was bad weather in the area last night? I know lots of high school games in the Purvis Columbia Hattiesburg Sumrall area were played. I saw the scores.

I wonder why the umpire can't keep track of things on the field though. Maybe they can resume today though.

That's a near impossible task there. I think if they get to 12 or 13 SEC wins and then win a couple of games in Hoover, they’ve got a good chance to get in. But that’s asking an awful lot with this remaining schedule. They'll be pretty clear underdogs in all four series, and they pretty much have to win two of them, not get swept in any of them, and might need a sweep of their own somewhere. I know Ole Miss was 6-12 at this time last year and eventually made a big comeback in the standings, but that happened because they swept two series in a row and jumped from 7-14 to 13-14 just like that. I just don’t see this State team being capable of something like that, or at least I’d put the chances of it at less than 1%.
Bulldogs4
William Carey has always been good in baseball. Years ago State used to play them regularly and the games were competitive and WC won more than a few games too. Then in the late 90’s the RPI folks stopped counting games against teams that were not D1. So State had to stop playing WC, Delta State, Livingston, MC, Milsaps etc. even those teams were as good as any lower level D1 team and in some years probably better than 50% of the northern D1 teams. Hope they bring home the bacon this year.

A dinosaur fossil? LOL! In all seriousness though both our in-state teams are struggling mightily.

maroontide06
That was definitely a tough loss last night for State. They actually rallied for once instead of getting shellacked. It's crazy how that Tennessee batter has walked it off for Tennessee for two consecutive "Friday" nights, even though last night's game was on Thursday. You hate to say it, but if KC Hunt could have not thrown that pitch center cut over the plate there's no telling if State could have had a chance to complete a rally in the top of the 10th. It was just refreshing to see that kind of effort when Cade didn't have his best night starting off.
Insideradvantage
This is about the time I'd normally throw in a Delta State comment since they were the preseason choice to win the GSC. But as things currently stand, they probably need to win 2 out of 3 against their rival MC this weekend just to make the conference tournament which they'd most certainly have to win just to make the NCAAs. What happened with DSU this year, I have no idea.
Bulldogs4
We are completely toast now. We had to win two this weekend. Barring a miracle we are done. Giving up 8 and 12 runs back to back gets you two losses.

Go ahead and pull the plug on the scoreboard.
MSTSatchmo
I don’t think this will be the last time State get’s swept finishing the season out. They probably needed to win 3 of the last 4 series to get an NCAAT bid. This weekend took care of that, plus made it probable they won’t get a spot in Hoover. OM will be looking for their first SEC series win tomorrow. If they can pull out two series wins, they’ll probably get that last spot in Hoover from the West. Dawg83
I still think Lemonis is back next year, but State is currently tracking to have an even worse SEC record than they had a year ago, so if the big money guys get in the new AD’s ear and a change is made, I can’t say that I wouldn’t understand it. A step back after a championship is understandable in most cases. A multi year collapse where you’re not even close to NCAAT contention either year is not. Especially given what State has invested into baseball. Debatably it’s an over-investment, but regardless, the facilities, fan support, and in many cases recruiting do not match the on field results from the last two years. Not even close. East-West does not matter. You could have all 7 teams from one division make it to Hoover and 2 teams from same division not make it

Dawg83
State, Ole Miss, and Mizzou are basically three teams playing for one spot in Hoover. Ole Miss at Mizzou next weekend is obviously very important. State has by far the toughest remaining schedule of the three. My suspicion is whoever wins the series in CoMo next weekend probably gets that last spot. I don’t see State hanging onto it. I guess things got to a tipping point that there was no coming back from. I wonder who will piece this thing together though.

Bulldogs4
I am old school so I don’t like firing coaches during the season. But that thought process is like the 8 track stereo. It just does not exist anymore. The dynamics that led to this are just dumb founding to me. He seems to be a good coach and I still think we have pitching talent but something has just gone off the rails. I have been a Lemonis supporter but we are missing something in the baseball program. And I don’t know what it is. And yet even though I said previously that we are toast, the season is not dead yet. I guess that is why I am surprised and disappointed that we fired a coach now instead of letting the season play out and finish. While the immediate future is dim, the opportunity still exists for this team to make a run. Doubtful but still possible.
MSTSatchmo
In an odd SEC related story, the Ohio Casino Control Commission has suspended betting on Alabama baseball. They were flagged for suspicious betting activity during the LSU series. Most notably bets placed for the April 28th game in which the starter was replaced by a reliever just hours before the game. It was probably nothing, but the OCCC must have thought there were an unusual number of bets placed in that hour before the game started. LSU won 8-6 Edited May 2, 2023 by MSTSatchmo
