State is definitely playing better. Just a matter if the hole they dug is too big to climb out of. RPI at 32 is perfectly fine, just have to win a lot more conference games.

Underrated part of State’s slow start is that Kentucky/Vandy/SC are a combined 27-2 in conference play and all in the RPI Top 10. Now it doesn’t get a ton easier down the stretch. But I think I definitely undervalued how good State’s opening stretch of opponents were.

This team feels like they might be starting to figure some things out. Just hope it’s not too little too late.

State and Bama will start at 12 noon today in hopes of getting in game 2.  Game 3, for now appears to be a wait and see and possibly late saturday to saturday night situation.  Ole Miss and the Hogs play 2 today starting at 2pm.  lets roll

Like I said, still a long way to go. You’re talking about needing 13 or 14 SEC wins. State is 2-8. 20 conference games left you, have to win 11 or 12 of those. And that includes a stretch of Tennessee, Arkansas, and LSU in consecutive weeks.

I was just kidding after week 2 when I said maybe UK and Vandy are just THAT good.  They appear to be.  The problem is the SEC as a whole has very good teams from top to bottom.  Like you said, it’s a bad year to be a bad team in the SEC.

Regardless, any win is a good win for State and if they can get a series win after their start, that’s big.

Some State fans I’ve talked to are concerned though that a decent run late may keep Lemonis his job.

Definitely any win is a great win.

As far as Coaching changes are concerned, I am very old school and way out of touch these days.

I just don’t get the microwave mentality of fan bases in the present day. That includes State, Ole Miss and seemingly every major college around.
Nobody has any patience (I admit I have been frustrated this year). And obviously it was mostly because we were getting blown out. Losing, while not desirable, is easier to swallow when it is 5-4 as opposed to 26-3.

So all that to say that fans are concerned that if we start winning it will save Lemonis’ job. What an oxymoron that is . Now we want to keep losing so we can fire the coach. And yes , I know some Ole Miss fans have had the attitude about Coach Bianco….please keep losing so we can get rid of you……ooops, you won the National Championship…still not good enough…we need to go in a different direction….

As 83 pointed out, there are about 25 games left in the season. Still a long way to go. But the margin for error is very slim.

And there are still problems…yes we did win last night but we walked 6 batters last night and gave up 8 runs. Still need to pitch better and field better. Today’s game is critical.

Been a difficult stretch for Ole Miss, State is playing a bit better. Today was a huge win.

As 83 noted the series against Ole Miss is really critical for both teams. The losing team at the end of the weekend will be in serious trouble.

I honestly don’t see a sweep in play either way next weekend.  I think it’ll be a 2 out of 3 weekend, and yes the team that goes 1-2 will definitely be between a rock and a hard place.

It will be hard for the loser of the series to not finish last in the West.

Big road series win for State. Snaps a streak of seven straight SEC series losses.

Long way to go, still just 3-9, but no doubt State is playing better than they were two weeks ago. And if you made me call it today I like their chances to win two next weekend, though it’s clearly anyone’s guess with as bad as these two teams have been.

Arkansas took game three 6-4 today.

A healthy Hunter Elliot will definitely help, will it be enough?

They were 7-14 at one point last year and went 7-2 down the stretch to sneak into the field. At 2-10 right now, that’s a ton of ground to make up but there’s still time to make a move, and I will say that OM has a VERY front loaded schedule other than LSU in a couple of weeks. 5 of the last 6 series for OM are definitely winnable.

I would much rather have OM’s remaining schedule than State’s. State absolutely has to win the Ole Miss and Auburn series, because those last four weeks are going to be a buzzsaw.

SEC is brutal this year. Really there are no weak teams and with the State/Ole Miss being the bottom of the barrel, that is saying something.

Though Ole Miss’ last three series have some winnable games in them.

Even though there is no game that you can say is a gimme.
