MSTSatchmo
OM keeps from getting swept by scoring 20 runs. Looks like it’s State’s turn to get run ruled. 7-0 in the 3rd

I still don’t feel strongly one way or another about what the right move is with Lemonis, but the rumblings of wanting a change are definitely getting louder. maroontide06
I don’t even think a 2nd year T-ball team with kids aged 6-7 would drop as many pop-ups as what State did yesterday. I feel like the white flag has been raised and waved.
Dawg83
What I’ll say is the bar for Lemonis to be back for 2024 wasn’t high at all…. And I’m not totally sure he even meets that low standard. It’s rough out here.
Bulldogs4
Guys I was flat wrong when I suggested that we could still make a run. We are going to finish 6-24 in the conference. Can softball make a run? Tennis? Golf? when does football season start?

If the results of this past weekend doesn't get him canned, then the results over the next two weekends should. I don't see LSU or A&M making a mistake and losing a game against State. Every time I talk myself into him being back next year, they do something that makes me go “well, maybe not…” That national championship still carries a lot of weight, but bringing back a guy that’s on his way to 15-45 in SEC play the last two years is going to be a tough sell to that fanbase. Bulldogs4
I can live with losing but the way we have been destroyed this season in conference play is what me and I think 99% of the fanbase can’t stomach. If we were 6-18 in the league with half dozen one run losses and half of dozen two run losses and our pitching staff was not getting shelled virtually every game, I would be okay. Obviously, I want to win but baseball is a fickle game and close losses can and do happen. But the fact that we are 6-18 and most of the losses have been with the other team scoring double digits is just too much. We are just not competitive at all. rebmus
Shout out to Southern Miss who has won 10 in a row and is a solid high #2 seed with a chance to host with 2 weeks left. Ole Miss hosts Auburn this weekend, an Auburn team that's won the past 3 weekend series vs MSU, #3 South Carolina, and #1 LSU. MSU travels to (#1 last weekend, #2 this weekend) LSU this weekend. OM/MSU are pretty much done. USM and Auburn will be postseason teams, and other teams may want to take notice of these 2 teams getting hot at the right time. Bulldogs4
I would like to USM stay hot down the stretch and get a Host seed. Still work to do but it is possible.

How fun would it be IF USM ran through the NCAAT and won a NC giving this state 3 NCs in a row in baseball?

They probably would like to win a NC, but the fallout afterwards will probably be less than desirable. If they do win one, they better not stink it up the following year (or two years) like we have. maroontide06
I realize I'm beating a dead horse here, but I feel like State is going to get absolutely shellacked this weekend starting this evening. Thankfully I've got a Maroon Tide baseball team to go support this evening, so I'll have something to distract me.
rebmus
Today's results: USM won again. MSU lost again. Ole Miss lost again... twice.

Dawg83
State is a train wreck but OM’s collapse this year is for sure more surprising. I thought they’d at least rally enough to make Hoover with a lighter backend schedule… But going 1-5 against Mizzou and Auburn killed that. This is by far Bianco’s worst team at OM, never thought I’d see him have a single digit SEC win season like this.

It really has been a shock how bad they are, especially with the back half of the schedule. Bianco has only had 5 seasons, I believe, under .500 in SEC play, and one of those he won the NC. This year has been a disaster.
Dawg83
State beating LSU today is one of the WTF results of the season. I don’t think anyone expected this to be anything less than an LSU sweep. State is technically still alive for Hoover contention but they would need to finish very strong in the last four and have either Mizzou or Georgia basically lose out. I believe Ole Miss was eliminated today with their loss and Mizzou’s win.
Bulldogs4
Certainly was glad to win tonight. And the fact that we out played LSU was a nice surprise. Have a chance to win the series tomorrow. And I had already predicted we would lose out the rest of the year. Credit to Cade Smith and KC Hunt for pitching well tonight. Most likely too little too late though. We will see what happens there. But 83 you are correct in saying we have to win out to even have a prayer of qualifying for Hoover.
MSTSatchmo
LSU pulls a State move. Blows a 13-4 lead and loses 14-13 in 10. Looks like too little too late for State though. Good series win though.
Dawg83
Unreal that this State team won a series in Baton Rouge. Gotta be the biggest upset of the season in the SEC. They still need help to get to Hoover. but at least for a few days they’ve suddenly made things interesting.
maroontide06
Let me gladly eat some crow! I honestly thought we would get creamed in Baton Rouge this weekend and we win a series at Alex Box! Who would have thunk it? State still needs Missouri to lose today and drop a couple next weekend to feel halfway decent about making the SEC tournament, but if State wins the series at home next weekend against A&M they might get the 12 seed. They are still on the outside looking in, but at least all hope isn’t lost quite yet. Edited May 14, 2023 by maroontide06
