You are correct they do. But I also know from my own families recruitment that they can and will reach out much earlier.

All is somewhat a reach. He applied for Brandon when it was available and another that I can’t remember. I’d have to go back into my old texts. That was two years ago or so.

Germantown

Jake would probably do a great job. I have heard nothing but glowing things about him and Coach Zach Green from the kids that I have spoke with on the team. I just do not believe they would want someone without prior HFC experience. They need to move on an AD fast and then get on the Head Coach immediately after.

That may be tough. The Superintendent is on a lame duck contract also so that job has to be filled. The person that the current AD wants to follow him is unavailable until after basketball season.

I forgot about ole Dr. Coleman leaving. That is a lot of big turnover for a district to see happen. Losing Superintendent, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach in the same year.

That has nothing to do with him leaving. That's straight truth. Ross was just as bad if not worse. You have a 2nd team All-State LB and region MVP with a high GPA and ACT score in the class of 24 and the kid doesn't even have a JUCO offer. Ask the parents of any player that has gone to the next level while Pennock was there how much he did for them recruiting.

That’s ridiculous JUCOs are not worried about a Junior at this moment they are trying to lock down this years seniors. If the kid is good enough he will have multiple JUCO offers by the end of Feb. and if he is d1 caliber he will have offers by end of Spring.

I think I heard his name mentioned for Brandon, Germantown and Northwest Rankin when they were open.

I know that he interviewed for two of those jobs per members of his staff when he did. That’s another thing that Gulfport will quickly learn about him only believe about 1% of what comes out of his mouth.

He is going to be facing a different battle at Gulfport. He will not have as much community support/involvement as he did at Ocean Springs. They players he will be coaching are vastly different than the majority of what he had to work with at Ocean Springs. If he can get the community support and buy in from the players. Gulfport could potentially be a really dangerous team.

I would think with the way their offense has performed and given how long the OC has been with Pennock, they would at least consider him.

Not gonna happen.  That ship sailed decades ago as it did in Biloxi and Pascagoula.  Those communities will NEVER support football as they did in the Big 8 days when Friday nights revolved around the games being played at Milner, Yankie, and War Memorial stadiums.  Ocean Springs is an outlier on the coast and the community involvement is on another level ... and it's only growing as the city is expanding and building new subdivisions on the eastern side.

Of course you'll see an uptick in attendance at Milner if he's winning 9-10 games a year but I'm betting it won't be nearly full on a consistent basis.  Frankly, the three schools mentioned above now have overbuilt capacities given the decline in support and the other entertainment options available in tourist, coastal cities.

@David what have you been told about everything going on? You are probably the most connected person with Ocean Springs athletics on this board.

I just got a call from a hall of fame ex Hound who has also been hearing that it’s a real thing that he’s at least been offered the job. Hearing that the players have been informed is news to me, but sad if true. I’ll wait till things go official, but I think this sucks on so many levels. I’ll get back in here when I hear more. Thanks for tagging me.

The ex OS player has been offered?

Heard Pennock is difficult to work for; I don’t expect many OS assistants to go with him.

Also the only times he’s been successful is with studs named Akers and Hubbard, the rest has been pretty mediocre.

Pretty sure they allowed him to bring along his two coordinators. Tough for my Greyhounds, but we’ll recover.

One would hope so, but the wrong hire could be detrimental. You lose a coach that was able to rally players, community, etc. Can the next guy do that? I am curious if any players will look to move on to other places? The players that were brought in, what do they do? It is a tough situation for the players and especially the coaches. The ones he offer the chance to come with him, most likely have to go because there is a chance they will not be retained.

All I know is that there’s a lot of good, talented coaches in place at the lower levels to continue the continuity and have the program ready for the next new coach. Without an AD presently, I’d love to see O.S. go outside the box and bring back an ex coach with connections at the state level as interim AD and head of the search committee. The guy I have in mind knows O.S., and certainly knows the football scene in the state well enough to find and attract the right man for the job. I’m not naming names, but this should now be one of the premiere jobs and programs in the state, and as such, should attract the best. We’re moving forward, and will make this a positive, or I don’t know this town.

I ain’t saying. In fact, I’m only wishing. But, it would make sense for both sides, since “he” retired not long ago. I like both of the guys you mentioned, but only one of em has the statewide pull for a major coup like I’d like to see in the coaching hire.

Bramlett is the heart and soul of every thing that Pennock does.  He is critical to the buy-in, install, strength & conditioning and development.  The kids will love Bramlett, but I see Pennock missing OS by the time summer rolls around. I think Pennock is gonna find out that all money ain't good money.  I believe that the players at Gulfport are gonna have a hard time buying in to Pennock's style of coaching and dismissive demeanor.  It also doesn't help that the Kings of the Coast posts were major locker room material.  Maybe the kids will adjust, but as you mentioned... Gulfport is a different environment from the Pass & OS.

Pennock will be fine with or without Bramlett.  He will get the kids to buy in.  He will bring some talented assistant coaches with him.  Like him or not,  the guy wins wherever he goes.  I am more interested on which coaches he will retain from the current staff.  Gulfport guys,  who do you think he will retain.

Someone in the administration needs to offer Bramlett the job today. I know someone posted earlier that both coordinators we're going, but the kids already have ties there. Might keep the kids at home

That’s just it…that’s the dumpster fire this is!  There is no administrator at OS with authority to offer!  No superintendent, no athletic director, nothing.  Just a school board that has either created this mess, or at a minimum allowed it to happen.  And also refused to offer the job to the OC who, because he is currently on staff, could have been hired without posting the job.

Look at his numbers… they speak for themselves.  Even the racehorse will tell you he wouldn’t have hit water if he had fallen out of a boat his sophomore year.  Yet he threw, what, 30 TDs the next year.  Look at Pass 4 years ago. QB went from limited success to throwing for 300 ypg and became 4A POY.  David… you’ve been watching this guy for 3 yrs and don’t recognize that the top young offensive mind in the state shares a zip code with you?  Watching the OS offense the  past 3 years have been like watching a video game with bells and whistles going off all the time. Additionally, he’s  the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator.  OS didnt even look like a 6A football team before he got here. Before the past couple of years, tell me the last time you saw OS push other teams around.  No head coaching experience… get so tired of hearing that.  Pennock only had one year experience when he was hired. Prior to coordinating the offense and S & C programs for Pennock the past 4 years, Bramlett cut his teeth under THE  Marcus Boyles, coached under Boswell and Hart…  those guys only have about 10 gold balls between them.

If Pennock had left before this new board stumbled and bumbled its way into authority, rest assured the AD and Superintendent would have made the hire and this whole ordeal would have been but a hiccup on the continued journey to success… staff and players intact.

Leave it to politics, vendettas, old scores to settle…whatever it is…and you have a top 5 program void not only of a head coach (happens… all the time) but completely void of an entire administration authorized to make a hire (the likes of which has never been seen before).  At what point does one recognize something is rotten in the state of Denmark?

This is true.  The 3 women on the board, who have been quoted to not care or know anything about football, voted against hiring Bramlett.  This has mostly been about scores to settle and vendettas and nothing about what is best for the program.  Dr. Vickie Tiblier has told friends of my wife and mine that her personal goal is to get rid Dr. Coleman and change everything she accomplished.  Bramlett does not want to leave and when he spoke to one of the board members this week, he said he was ready to continue winning with the Greyhounds.
