still no word on who SMU is complaining about but the msu folks say they are on some current  texas and tennessee players yet to be named.

And not a single SMU guy I know that we’ve targeted. Might just be a smoke signal from their coach to complain about.

Most definitely opens Pandora's box. This is an asinine ruling.  What now keeps a player that played two years at Juco, then a year or two at a Power 4 school, then gets drafted or signs a free agent deal and gets cut after a year or two from saying hey I have two years of eligibility left because my Juco years didn't count. So now I should be allowed to play two more years of college football. Hopefully that judge, or an appellate will come to there senses and overturn the decision.

And then what happens when the guy that hasn't seen the field in two years decides to sue for those extra years of eligibility since he hasn't technically used eligibility in a game. At some point the craziness has to stop. Hopefully the judge changes his ruling or it gets overturned on appeal.

"Tampering" is a joke when fans complain about it now, NIL and open transfers ended any real "tampering" gripe.

If Lane, Lebby, and most other coaches aren't trying to get good players from other schools... they'll be left behind in today's world.

I'd highly wager most CFB players that are good enough to be paid more know through a "friend of a friend of a friend" what type of an offer than can get elsewhere.

Folks say we had a 15-20 mil team this year when we actually was under 10 and not even in top twenty of money spent on NIL. Found ways around things that the collective didn’t have to spend.

I know the court ruled players can capitalize of NIL, so wouldn’t any other form of payment be against NCAA rules?

Of course we all know they technically aren’t getting paid for their name, image and likeness anyway.

I saw a Tennessee LB called out an X account for saying he was going to State.  He said he hasn’t said anything and the guy doesn’t have “sources” saying it either.

I know when Dart, Harris, Nolan and Wells were at Rebel Rags before the season you had to pay for their autographs. Different signed stuff were different prices. When Dart was at Kroger signing some sort of energy drink he endorses it was free unless you brought your own item to sign.

State is recruiting an RB named Fluff Bothwell and I don’t know if he’s any good or not but you gotta get that dude just for his name.

I liked him and Hardy when the portal opened but my biggest concern is how their game would do in the SEC. I see both as good backs but I don’t see them as 1,000 yard rushing main backs. I think both will get their teams around 750.

That is legit NIL income.

Nice pickup for Ole Miss just awhile ago flipping Andrew Jones from South Carolina after he “committed” to them two days ago. This year’s SWAC defensive player of the year gives Ole Miss their 2nd LB in the portal that had over 100+ tackles this year. The other being Jaden Yates. Hopefully it can translate to the SEC.

I thought OM was loaded at WR last year too, but they had one injured star, another one with one big game and one just collecting a paycheck.  Maybe Simmons will spread it around a little more.

After adding Deuce Alexander today this WR group next year will actually be deeper than it was this year. Will that translate to anything? I shrug my shoulders. I do like how this looks though…

WR1-De’Zhaun Stribling

WR2-Caleb Odom

WR3-Caleb Cunningham

WR4-Cayden Lee

WR5-Deuce Alexander

When you have a 5 star top five WR recruit as a WR3 and the guy who led college in reception percentage as WR4, you should have a good group.

I think our passing game will be good. I like what I’ve seen of Simmons, the receivers as you’ve said are top notch and I think the Oline can protect. Here’s the thing, though, are we going to be able to run the ball? If we can’t, trouble awaits somewhere.

And there are big losses on defense. Our young guys and transfers will need to prove themselves. I don’t think the defense will be as good next year which is no surprise considering how good it was this year. Maybe I’m wrong.

I’m waiting until the dust settles in a few weeks to really evaluate State’s portal class but my general take is they’ve added some good pieces but need quite a few more good pieces still.

The incoming talent is better, but the quantity isn’t where it needs to be yet.  Hopefully they’ll be able to get some more in the boat without sacrificing quality.

With the first stage closed I can’t confidently say the roster situation for State is any better this upcoming year. I would say a win this year would be finding your Qb of the future and an identity on defense. The schedule is a little nicer to us so we may see 4 wins instead of 2, but we’ll probably be in a similar situation to this year. I just don’t see a breakthrough possible with this roster yet
