Portal Season Thread

Coaching is more important now than it has ever been.  It seems like a lot of the players in the portal have already been in the portal at least once.
You have to have leadership and a coach that can either get the players he needs for his system or adjust his system for whatever players he can pick up.
It’s like being a JUCO coach and having a whole new roster every two years.

It appears that the winds have shifted toward JA to Auburn. Would not be a great look for Lebby given that MVB is already gone. However there appears to be a pivot toward Luke Kromenhoek now (Florida State), who has played less than Arnold but is equally a high upside guy. I dunno, feels like we are headed toward State going with Shapen as the presumed starter now with Taylor waiting in the wings and another transfer with upside as back up or potential starter. I like Shapen fine except for he’s clearly injury prone and you can’t really expect a full season from him.

I think by the end of this portal season it looks like Arkansas is going to be Ole Miss’ farm system. The way it’s looking I expect 4-5 former Razorbacks. How that turns out product wise, we’ll see.

Two more Razorbacks within the last 12 hours has committed. Picked up Jaylon Braxton early early this morning and now TE Luke Hasz just committed. Was def hoping we’d land Hasz. That’s now 3 former Razorbacks.

I get that State is a struggling program but not even getting a visit out of Gabriel last year and Arnold this year when Lebby was supposedly very tight with both is maybe not the best look for him.

It just goes to show how far behind state is in the NIL world compared to their peers. I don’t see a scenario where MSU will be very competitive against the SEC until something changes.

I don’t think it’s an NIL issue….. I think it’s a State has 1 SEC win in two years issue. And also maybe the least proven coaching staff in the Power 5.

There are teams that for sure have less NIL resources than State that are vastly outperforming them.

Not gonna lie…. Based on early portal activity…. State might have a worse roster in 2025 than they had in 2024. I have no idea what your selling point for next season is. You’re coming off 2-10 and your outgoing players are somehow better than your incoming players so far.
