I agree. It is tough and I think it is too early on Arnett. Now if by year 2 or 3 there is still the same issues, then yeah, look elsewhere. If I were a State fan, I would take Chadwell in a heartbeat. His offense is unique, fun to watch and adaptable based on personnel. He has been successful at a lot of places.

Your last sentence hit the nail on the head. Which is why in my opinion, there is no excuse now to not be successful with being able to upgrade your roster significantly in a year. Hall has whiffed on transfers and some high school players and it is showing. This is his team with players that he and his staff brought in. I also think if they were 3-3 or 3-4 he would be fine. They have lost some close games they had chances in but still lost them. The overall view of the program is not good either. Looks disjointed and not together from the outside. It feels like Hall has officially lost the locker room and when that happens, it is hard to get it back.

You are not wrong in your thinking. I just feel that being a Head Coach at the Division II level vs. the Division I FBS is a totally different animal and not everyone can handle making that transition. Like I said, there are internal, administration issues with money, funding, etc. that are hurting them, but the majority of it falls on Hall at the end of the day and he has not got it done. I know a lot folks want to see him succeed because he is a home state boy, but he has had 3 years and you could argue they are worse now than any point the last 4-6 years and with their remaining schedule, it will be hard to imagine them getting more than 1 win (ULM).

There are deeper internal problems I believe, but at the end of the day, it is year 3 for Hall. Between recruiting high school and JUCO players, along with the transfer portal, there is zero excuse to be this bad. Player development appears to be piss poor and that is squarely on Hall and his staff. The offensive line has not improved in 3 years under 2 different OL coaches. Hall is supposed to be a quarterback guru and he bragged all off-season about the kids they brought in and how they fit his system and the quarterback play has been below average at best. Hall appears to be in over his head. Being a good "coach" does not always translate to being a good Head Coach either. I do not think most USM fans expect them to be world beaters, but to not even be competing for a shot at a Sun-Belt championship is bad. Hall just has not brought the exciting brand of football he promised when he got the job. Plain and simple. I know as a Tulane fan, I was not sad to see him go when he left us after 2020.

2 safeties this week instead of 1! I like it!

Will Hall may not be the HFC for USM this time tomorrow. 26 yards of offense in 1st half I think I read.

7A South football down the stretch to the playoffs
coastfootballfanman replied to David's topic in Football
Ocean Springs is putting it together at the right time. Defensively, they have been every bit as good as advertised and on offense, they are probably a little ahead of where a lot of people (including myself) thought they would be. Gulfport is the only shot left to beat them before the playoffs begin. Playoffs come down to matchups. Greyhound defense might be the best in the state and will keep them in just about every game. If the offense can keep it up and keep improving, they very well could become the favorite. -
Please find a way to get rid of this spam. Holy cow.

Judging the South- Slick Seven Points October 11
coastfootballfanman replied to slicklizard's topic in Football
It is ironic because all the off-season hype was being given to 5A and how good it was going to be, especially Region 4-5A and it has not been the case at all. Weird how football works sometimes. -
LOL! I was there myself and was completely torn on how to feel. I grew up a big time Mississippi State fan as my father attended Sturgis High before joining Air Force. I only became a Tulane fan after being able to play some ball there after high school.
-
You are right there. I am hoping Arnett can keep this recruiting class together. There are some solid athletes in it.
-
There is a reason so few teams are running the 3-3-5. I have never been a big fan of it. Too much boom or bust with it.
-
I agree. We will know just how real they are come Friday night. Obviously Long Beach not good at all, but from what I saw of George County with Deuce back, it is going to be very tough for teams to defend.
-
Going with George County. I think they just have too much speed and athleticism at the skill positions for Hancock to slow them down. This is far and away the best team Hancock has faced thus far. I do think Hancock will have some offensive success of their own though. I am thinking a 35-21 type of game, but would not be shocked to see Hancock pull out a win if they can control the ball and clock and keep George County off the field.

Pearl River Community College Football
coastfootballfanman replied to Vott's topic in Mississippi College Sports
East Central is about the only winnable game left for them I see. They are looking 0-9 or 1-8 in the face. Seth has had 4 seasons to get it together and outside of last year, he’s went 2-4 and 2-7. I do not see how you keep him on. He has had 2 different OC’s leave before the start of the season. Something just is not adding up -
LOL! He said the entire field looked like standing water.
-
I had a friend who was at the game tell me he had never seen anything like it.

Pearl River Community College Football

Seth is in over his head. Being the play caller like he was at East Central HS and being a play caller at the collegiate level are two different things. Questionable recruiting has doomed them. Other than East Central CC, I do not see a game where I think they can win. Seth I believe is suited more for high school and that is fine. He gave this his best shot and it does not seem to be working out. -
Judging the South- Slick Seven Points October 3
coastfootballfanman replied to slicklizard's topic in Football
Call me crazy, but Gautier might actually be the best team in Region 4-5A, at least right now. Region 3 has Brookhaven, Florence and North Pike who might factor in. 5A south is a mixed bag right now in my opinion -
I think it will be between Oak Grove and Brandon. IF they stay healthy, I like Ocean Springs to maybe surprise. Their defense is really solid, especially their front 7. Offense is getting better. I think they will beat Gulfport. Obviously as David stated, that game is a tricky one with Pennock and Gulfport does have a solid ball club that can matchup with Ocean Springs at the skill. I believe the difference will be Ocean Springs front 7 vs Gulfport offensive line. I am not sold on their offensive line being good enough to beat the Greyhounds. Pearl seems to be really improved but I think they are a year out from being a legit contender for 7A south.
-
I am man enough to admit when I am wrong and they definitely look better than I thought they would. Defense is good enough to stuff anyone. If they get the offense going they will be the favorite most likely to come out of the south. A lot of things can happen over the next 5 weeks.
-
West Harrison and Hancock are in the same boat in my opinion. Have not played or beaten anyone of real substance. Hancock finally played a team with a pulse and it took a last second kick to win it. While they are improved, I do not believe it is what their record indicates. Best team West Harrison has played is Sumrall who beat them. West Harrison has not played anyone good. George County and Pascagoula have been more tested in pre region games than those two. Does that mean they will beat them? Who knows. The gap between Picayune and West Jones has shrunk. I will admit I was not sure if West Jones had the pieces to beat Picayune but after non-region play, you have to think they do now. So to me, it is them two right now and then you can roll the dice and get Hattiesburg, George County, Hancock, Pascagoula or Terry. I think all 5 of those teams are right there with one another. West Harrison could be a tough out and surprise, I just need to see more than I have.
-
Slick, do you think if Hankins would hire an OC and let him run the offense that could help things or is it too late and much deeper for that?
-
You are right. They were. It’s just been steady success for the most part over the last two decades, I forget they were not great in 90’s.
-
63-31 to d’Iberville. This has got to be rock bottom for one of the proudest programs in our state.
