Tyson is going to be the biggest loss of them all. That young man is IMPRESSIVE. -
State Championship Predicted Scores

Louisville/Columbia is going to be a really, really great game. Wish I could make it to that one. -
6A South State: Picayune @ West Jones

Tonight was a night where having a passing attack for you guys would have probably helped a ton. Heckuva season for you guys in Picayune! 2 state titles and 3 straight south state appearances. The Stogner era started strong. -
6A South State: Picayune @ West Jones

I thought they would have tough sledding but to get completely shut down. Wow. I know the guards and center for Picayune are not very big, but they make up for it with scrappy, hard nosed play. West Jones put on a clinic defensively and the offense just ran through the Picayune defense without issue. Shocked is an understatement. -
Well solid offensive line play typically can carry a good offense. So if they can not have too much drop off, whoa. Offense should be lights out. How much does the defense lose?
-
Completely dumbfounded by how Picayune is getting beat. Kudos to West Jones. I knew they had a nice sized offensive line, but they are having their way with Picayunes defense. Hats off to Coach Reynolds and his staff.

West Jones defense is every bit as good as advertised. Wow. They are good

I am going Gautier and West Point. I do not have a ton of faith in Gautier in the coaching department, but their kids are hungry and are super athletic. Plus, I enjoy rooting for a coast team. Although I think West Point is gonna whip whoever makes it from the South

Never say never… Just passing along what I have been told

I could be reading too far into this, but I believe they already have their guy and this has been in the works for a little while now. You do not fire a coach who’s gotten as much out of this program, if not more than any other coach the past 20+ years for no reason unless you have the guy you want lined up. Yesterday, I was told a name to keep an eye on is a coach at the collegiate level that is a Biloxi alumni. Heard this from an admin within the district. So there may be some smoke to this. Sean Murphy who is currently at Nicholls State. I will believe it when I see it obviously but that was who I was told they were possibly going after.

According to MHSAA rules, unless Picayune appeals and it is overturned, he will be out next week.

6A South State: Picayune @ West Jones

It is hard to imagine West scoring enough on the Picayune defense to win. I do not mean that as a knock on West Jones offense either. Their QB is a great athlete and I think he can create some matchup problems for Picayune, but if West cannot consistently block Amarion Tyson, he will shut it down fairly quick. I do think West defense is good enough to meet Picayune offense. I see a 17-14 type of contest with Picayune coming out on top. -
It was in like the first/second quarter I noticed he went out and never came back in
-
What happened to Chris Davis last night? He just went out and never got back in that I saw. Did he get injured?
-
Watched the game on YouTube last night. You guys defense is legit. Big up front. Athletic. Tough. Offense is well oiled machine as always. Impressive performance. Goula had some chances early to make it a game and stay in it but they could not catch the ball. Good luck next week vs. West Jones, I know that is going to be a classic!

It is ironic because pre-season, 5A south (especially 4-5A) was being propped up this gauntlet of amazing teams and honestly, 5A south is down bad this year overall and you can tell. 5A State game may be the biggest blowout of them all in two weeks
-
I cannot say for sure my friend, but for them to make this move, surely it signals something positive.
-
While I do agree, they just let go of a coach who is coming off back to back winning seasons with playoff appearances. He made the playoffs 4 times there. I think them letting him go, could be a sign of “possibly” going in and investing in football.
-
Was told he is not leaving on his own decision. Knowledgeable coach. Will land on his feet. Biloxi probably will go in for Stockstill I imagine.

Pearl River Community College Football
coastfootballfanman replied to Vott's topic in Mississippi College Sports
From what I have been told, that is probably the biggest detriment he has. He likes to have his hand involved in every detail, which at the college level usually does not fly with coordinators/assistant coaches and usually leads to losses. His last two OC's lasted barely a month, so hopefully he has learned the error of his ways. -
First off, lets address something. Saying Fant does LESS with MORE insinuates that he is not doing a good job - meaning he is underachieving. I think you meant to say he does more with less, but I digress. Vancleave won 4 games THIS season. They did not beat Hattiesburg THIS year. They beat 0-10 St. Martin, 3-7 Stone, 3-8 East Central and 3-8 Wayne County. Nobody is trolling. I am simply stating that this season, was NOT impressive. They ONLY reason they made the playoffs is because they played in the WORST region in 5A. Fant has been at Vancleave 5 seasons and has 1 playoff win. Capers was there 4 and had 2 playoff wins. So who really has done more with less? If what Fant has done is impressive then one could argue what Capers did as well was impressive. Impressive coaching jobs for me honestly on the coast would be Jeff Stockstill at Pass Christian and Stogner at Picayune dealing with all the injuries and things they had to go through at a very key position for their offense. State wide, obviously Boyles at Meridian, Thigpen at Terry.
-
Call me crazy, but when did going 4-7 and 0-6 vs teams with a .500 or better record become impressive coaching? LOL If they played in any other 5A region, they probably would have been sitting at home come playoff time.

I think it is legit. I saw on Twitter some folks who are "insiders" for Liberty Athletics tweeting out that it was a legit photo and that he deleted the tweet, went back and changed the location to Earth. Hard to trust the internet, but I am hopeful it is legit. I also read on some message boards at Liberty that State and Chadwell began conversations the week of Kentucky game. Again, hard to trust it, but there appears to be a lot of smoke.

Slick, what do you foresee next year? Do you see further decline? Maybe Hankins can rally the kids this off-season and improve? It is an awfully tough situation to be in, especially for Wayne County. Do you see any chance of Hankins leaving on his own since Hawthorne most likely would not let him go?
-
His offense is triple option principles but utilizes spread formations and personnel. He uses other plays to employ the triple look and not just zone or veer. He also will tag the modern RPOs and Play action off of it. It is definitely a lot more fun to watch than traditional option offenses but has the same difficulties of defending it. It is pretty impressive honestly how they do it and they do not have to have big, huge OL to execute it either. To me, it fits the type of players State usually pulls in.
