Having watched the Greyhounds in their jamboree last week, I think their defense will keep them in the game. The offense I think is still working out the kinks and not having Whitehead for the foreseeable future hurts them. He is a dynamic player that would help at QB, RB, or WR. Just off the eye test, you can the defense is unit that has experience playing together and they swarm to the ball. Serious D1 talent on that side of the ball as well. Offense will probably take a few weeks to find footing but having to replace what they lost (especially at QB) is going to take some time, especially if Berglind was expected to be a back up option behind Whitehead. Offensive Line did not look as crisp as I thought with the experience they have coming back. I see Madison Central pulling a tough, defensive battle at home. Picayune is going to give Brandon all they want and then some. The thing about a team like Picayune is that there are not many teams Brandon plays that runs that style of offense. It is hard to prepare for in a week because no scout team can truly replicate the look they give. I do believe Brandon has the size to control the line of scrimmage and a big, physical running back. All that said, I have learned not to bet against the Maroon Tide. Gimme' Picayune in a CLOSE one on the road with a classic 5-6 minute drive at the end to seal the deal.

A little different circumstance on how they got him at Ocean Springs. His dad, who was formerly the DC at Gulfport was not retained by Pennock and took a job at Ocean Springs, so his son came with him.

My exact thoughts. I am a Gulfport alum but have lived in Ocean Springs since moving back home from Louisiana in 2008. My daughter currently attends OS and is friends with several players. The bad blood is there and this is game they have had circled on their schedule for a long time.

George County losing another player. 3 star Kohl Bradley is going to Tennessee with Deuce Knight.

From their perspective, he is small even for a cornerback, let alone a linebacker/safety type. They would not be able to justify taking him over another kid who is say, 6'0 200. They feel they can find kids bigger than him that can do what he does. It happens every year to amazingly talented kids and those kids typically end up being multi year all-Americans at the lower NCAA levels and some even make it to NFL. Measurables for a lot of kids will get your foot in the door with minimal production. Long Beach had a linebacker some years ago that broke Richie Brown's career tackles record. He was a machine! However he was about 5'7 185 and ended up going NAIA I believe. Devin Wayne was his name maybe? I just remember he was legit and could play.

He is a ball player. Sadly, size will keep him from attracting the attention he rightly deserves. He probably translates more to the hybrid safety/outside linebacker a lot of defenses use these days and even for that position, he is probably too small given the average sizes of those players. However, make no mistake, he can play. I told some folks in the stands as much talent as Picayune has, he is the best player on their team in my opinion. I see him as a JUCO superstar and a guy who will have a chance to dominate at the FCS/D2 level. He is one of the best high school linebackers I have seen.

The final 2 minutes of that Pascagoula game were INSANE to say the least.

What drama would there be? He was the main cog in an explosive offense and was going to be the star of the show for two years.

Hattiesburg just has to finally show it. We can say it was injuries, but there was no talk of that heading into the playoffs from you guy last year on a 7 game win streak. So was it really injuries? Outside of the Snoop Conner years at Hattiesburg, you guys have been on par with just about everyone else. Not meaning that as a knock, just stating the facts of what your record shows.

They are like Texas A&M to me. Every year, tons of talent, expectations through the roof and they largely underperform given that hype. I will say adding the quarterback from Ridgeland was a huge get and should help them a lot, but until they go out and prove it, I am not buying them as serious contenders.

There is a wide gape between Picayune and everyone else in my opinion. West Jones has the best shot to dethrone them in the South in my opinion but Pierson is not leading them anymore so there could be some drop off from that. However, they play the game for a reason and high school football is known to produce some craziness!

I think the Alfred situation had to do a lot with his WR trainer/7 on 7 coach and his ties with Saraland. 2-3 of their good players also played on the same 7 on 7 team with Alfred. Couple that with the fact Gautier did not look very good on offense this spring trying to run Air Raid without Kaden Irving and I think he felt like he was in for a long season He will have a chance to compete against some legit competition and play with some great players and have a chance to win a ring. Not to mention Saraland probably is chipping in with something (money, housing, job, etc.) George County is a mess from what I have been told. Players and community are not behind Ray. Knight has some connections with his 7 on 7 team and coaches. Could have been how he got set up with Lipscomb. There is definite behind the scenes working going on. This stuff happens all the time in basketball and has become really common in football the last few years. It has just finally made its way to Mississippi.

Well now that Deuce Knight has departed George County, I see them as a team possibly fighting for the playoffs. Rumors are more of their players are getting out as well. Not sure how true or what the real situation is, but George County definitely took a huge hit in terms of really challenging Picayune and other south 6A teams.

We absolutely are. It is going to turn into a situation similar to that of AAU. These trainers and coaches are going to get kick backs from schools to push kids to their program. I could also see some of these larger power house programs that recruit reaching out to broker deals to get those kids to move to their school because their state may allow NIL for high school players.

This NIL stuff is going to hurt high school football in our state. I do not believe our state allows high school players to profit off of NIL which will be a driving factor in some of these kids leaving in the future. These private trainers and 7 on 7 coaches are going to be driving these kids to places they can get NIL deals and all. It is going to turn into the wild wild west very fast I am afraid.
