Funny how you mask the blatant illegal recruiting tactics that OS has employed over the years as “if a parent moves their kid into another district because it’s better for their education”. That is where I have to draw the line. OS has broken the rules of illegally recruiting players. You can spin it how you want but anyone who is not a Greyhound die hard homer knows how hypocritical you are acting over this. Illegally recruiting players no matter how it happens is wrong. 6 months ago you would not have batted an eye, but now, with Pennock gone, OS people want to try and play victim. Give us a break man. I respect you as a poster on here, but you do not have leg to stand on in this situation given the dirty tactics Pennock AND current staff members on OS have employed over the last 3 year and Ross and company before that. You think Casey Cain wasn’t upset over having a player recruited away? Ocean Springs is getting a taste of its own medicine.
-
So the recruiting that your program has done for the past 3 years under him was okay, but him going to Gulfport and then coming after the OS kids is not? Both are wrong and illegal at the end of the day. David I understand why you are upset, but you cannot be naïve enough to think one is perfectly fine and the other is not. Coaches on your current staff have reached out to kids in Jackson county to recruit them to OS. You are okay with that? Because in my opinion, it is the same as what Pennock is doing except it is happening TO your program not FOR your program.

I understand the frustration. The MHSAA should step in. This kid has been to 3 schools in 3 years. 2 of which he has transferred to the school Pennock was at. That is a huge red FLAG. However, unless coaches or admin pursue it, I do not see the MHSAA doing anything and if they do, you risk hurting the kid which might not be fair to him. He is a young kid being influenced by his HC and DC that he has build some level of trust and relationship with. Turning it in means he has to return to OS or Harrison Central and after his stunt he pulled with announcing his departure like a college player in the transfer portal, I cannot imagine the players and coaches at OS really wanting him back.
-
I agree, there is a rule in place and the MHSAA needs to enforce it. The issue I have had is that many OS residents are acting like Pennock and Gulfport are horrible for going after OS players, but they literally were okay Pennock recruiting 6 months ago because he was doing it for them. It is who he is. It is what he does. Also have never been fond of him as a person the times I have been around him. I do not have much interest in this. I am not a OS lifer like you are so my perspective is vastly different I suppose.

What he has been doing to get kids in there has been illegal from the jump, but because now he is taking from Ocean Springs, it is a dirty tactic. Coaches and community members on that staff have reached out to players all across the coast over the last 3 years to recruit them in. Sure, it looks like a legit move on paper, but we all know the reality. You cannot have your cake and eat it too, David. LOL

Greatest Mississippi High School QB's of all time?
coastfootballfanman replied to BrickCity's topic in Football
He was ahead of his time back in the late 80's but Shane Matthews was a guy that really impressed me as a 9-10 year old kid. Damarious Bilbo was another one that absolutely blew me away with his abilities. Modern era would probably be Jimmy Johns or Bray Hubbard in my opinion. -
Sean Bentz the current Assistant OL coach for Ocean Springs?

I am hearing a coaching legend is possibly looking to come out of retirement and PRC has been in contact with him about the position. Could be nothing more than a little smoke but my source seems to think its possible.

How is George County going to be this year?
coastfootballfanman replied to RebelYell's topic in Football
From what I saw, skill players were as talented as anyone around. Their line (mainly OL) struggled and that was a big detriment. Quarterback spent a lot of time running for his life. Defensive struggled early but appeared to get it together later in the year. They were young as a whole last season. I expect them to be 2nd or 3rd in Region 4-6A. -
That was my thought.

It is open and posted on MHSAA site.

Sure has been a lot of new accounts and posts about this job. Coach Bramlett, is that you? LOL
-
I will say this. Great players and talent can make an average or even below average coach look good. That said, Blake Pennock is a great coach. Regardless of the talent level, he has been able to get players to buy in and be sold out for his program(s). Yes, he has had really good talent as a HFC. He had the Allison kid at Pass who was a really great ball player along with some great senior skill players. At OS, he obviously had one of the all-time greats in Mississippi High School Football running his show along with other incredibly talented players but he was able to get those kids to buy into his program and it showed. Pennock I have heard is not a very well liked person as a whole due to his attitude and demeanor, but it is hard to argue with what he has done. He fit the OS attitude and culture perfectly. Bramlett seems like he does as well. The OS community got who many clamored they wanted. We will see how it goes.

From what I am hearing, the defense will be really, really strong. I believe my kids said there 7-8 starters coming back with some talent filling the void of those leaving. Offensively, they are losing their two best receivers, a few OL and Bray Hubbard. RB Will Smith will be returning and he is a very good player. However, he is coming off a season ending injury so no telling how he will be. They have a dynamic freshmen QB Sherroid Whitehead who is quick as a hiccup. He is not very big so that is concerning if they plan run him like they did Bray. There is also rising SR QB William Berglind. He is a good kid and has been in the system for a few years and has done well with the opportunities he has been given. Also rumors that John Jordan will be coming back out as well. He was freshmen team QB in 2021 and was a really nice player. It will be retooling of sorts in my opinion offensively, but I fully expect the defense to be one of the best in the state next year.

Who is taking over the reigns for Palazzo at QB?
-
Pennock to my knowledge did not teach any classes but held the role of "Assistant Athletic Director". If this is true, then OS is foolish for thinking any high quality coach was going to come in and take the job. I agree with your point though. Mississippi is hurting itself with they way coaches are run and expected to teach full class loads with the demands of running a program in today's world. I personally feel that no head football, baseball or basketball coach should teach a class. They should be focused on running their programs, game planning, fundraising, etc.

Sometimes you need to take the greyhound shades off David. LOL. Ocean Springs is far from a premier program in this state. 2 year run has been nice. But in my opinion, not a big enough sample size to be proclaimed premiere at this point and time.

I heard it was between Bramlett and DuBose and that community and school pressure to hire Bramlett was through the roof and they expected them to hire him. That was what I was told over the weekend. Of course in situations like this, most everybody "knows" something. LOL.
-
Word I am getting is that announcement will come this week and that it is Bramlett.

I think it comes down to being able to get coaches in. Many districts have already done letters of intent on who is coming back or not. Finding coaches to fill teaching vacancies can become a problem the later a school waits to make a move.
