Hearing Blake Pennock and it is a done deal. Wow. Honestly did not think it was legit. I was told salary is north of 100k.
-
Personally, I do not. That’s just what I am being told. They moved fast because they apparently had zeroed in on this candidate. This led to Archie stepping down.
-
It is a joke. LOL. Bobby Hall is retired and should stay retired.
-
I would imagine 6 figures and a lot of creative freedom.
-
LOL! That would be a shocker. I am thinking possibly Pennock. I am not sure what coaching would be considered “shocking” in taking that job
-
I was told a very lucrative offer was given out yesterday. My source would not give a name because only a handful know this and they do not want it getting out, but I was told to be prepared to be shocked and it should be announced this week. Not sure what that means, but I will be trying to figure out who it is. Lol
-
I guess I was meaning hands on in a not so good way. Pennock has been given some freedom with how he runs his program and Hubbard obviously supports that. I was meaning an AD who comes in and wants things done HIS way as opposed to allowing Pennock to have a lot of the freedom he does.
-
I just do not see any situation in which Pennock would leave for another coast school. He probably has the best set up for being a coach than anyone right now. Ocean Springs has pretty much given him the keys and let him do what he wants. Now, if the new AD hire is more hands on and wants to have more say in things, I could see that being something to make Pennock want to leave potentially, but why would anyone mess up what is obviously working?
-
Well I was also told that right there was a factor in the decision to go in another direction from John Archie.
-
I agree he would be great for them. However, I am not sure how true it is. Second hand information can be very wrong sometime. LOL. This same person who told me about Collier applying is the same person who said that Walters called up Pennock and wanted him. I usually tend to believe them because they are pretty connected and usually close to being right about their information.
-
I agree. Collier from Theodore may be the best option in that cases because he will be able to double dip and may not need to get paid a lot to take that job. I also believe the booster club chips in with pay as well on top of what the district pays.
-
I was told they are going hard for Pennock. He never officially put in for it but was contacted by Walters. I had not heard Causey's name so that is a little bit of a surprise. I was told Stockstill, Vance, Bilderback, Dyess (not surprising) as well as Forrest Williams all have applied. Not sure how true it all is. I was also told there was numerous applicants from Alabama and Louisiana but the only name I had heard of was Eric Collier from Theodore. Was told he has his years in and was looking for a good opportunity across state lines. Not sure how true it all may be though. My source was once a very trusted source but has led me astray a few times in the past few years. LOL

As someone connected to the community still, I can promise you they absolutely care. There was a reason Gulfport switched from the flexbone option to more traditional spread and it had a lot to do with pressure from community/boosters.

Advertised Head Coaching Openings 2022-23

I am afraid their descent will not be slowing down either. Their last bit of real talent is graduating and I have been told that next year’s group could be the worst team Moss Point has fielded in a long, long time. -

Harmon is retiring. -
Did you just look at the sophomores on MAC coaches all state list?
-
Absolutely better than Long beach (although that is a low bar). I would say they are better than West Harrison as well although they appear to be making strides to becoming more competitive.
-
They return a pretty good amount I believe but from what I saw of them last year, I was not very impressed overall. Definitely a hard nosed, gritty group of kids that are going to play hard. They are in the same mold of a Vancleave or East Central. They will struggle to match athletically but will play their tails off.
-
You guys lost some great players sure, but you return a good amount back from a really, really good defense. You have two good offensive backs coming back. George County and Pascagoula are probably the only teams that would pose a threat in your region (if you can really consider either of them that) and then you have Hattiesburg and West Jones from 3-6A that would be considered a threat. To me, you guys and West Jones are probably the favorites to come out of the south. Hattiesburg is probably the wild card in that situation as well depending on what they return and all.

I definitely picked up on some of your post being in jest. As was mine with “recruiting”. I have a nephew who is currently playing on the team and my youngest daughter is currently a junior there so I get to hear a lot of the things other schools and all say and all the noise they talk about Ocean Springs. It will be interesting to see how it plays out next year for both Picayune and Ocean Springs. I expect both to be region champions with Picayune favored to make a run for another Gold Ball.
-
I suppose the better language would be “encourage other top players from schools on the coast to attend Ocean Springs”
-
You left out “recruit other top players from schools along the coast”. LOL. Greyhounds had a great run! Proud of them. I have lived in Ocean Springs for the last 12 years. What Pennock has done is truly incredible for this community and school. I am not a greyhound by heart but I respect what they have accomplished. I think they take a step back next year as far as their overall dominance, but I still expect them to win the region 4-7A title.
-
I actually watched a good bit of them this year thanks to their broadcasts on YouTube. We can agree to disagree on that matter.
-
I truly believe myself, you, Slick, and a few of the picayune faithful could have coached Gautier to what they did this season. LOL! I am kidding obviously. I believe High is a good motivator. I just also believe he struggles with in game adjustments and preparation as a whole. They have lost some head scratchers since he has been their coach. Most of those deficiencies were masked this year with them having a veteran group that began the season with 9 or so seniors starting on offense and another 7 on defense. They played in a region where outside of maybe 1 or 2 teams, nobody could match their athletes and they run a great scheme with arguably one of the best QB’s from the coast ever running the show. It was a recipe for a great season.
