  1. Probably 3-6 range depending on how things swing. The problem in my opinion was not the W/L column more than it was culture. From all accounts, he lost a good bit of the locker room getting rid of some of the coaches that were loyal to Leach when he took over and then as things progressed this year, he lost a lot more. The team did not seem to have much fight in them. They look deflated the majority of the time (especially in most of the SEC games). I felt as though the players chalked it up and did not care and that reflects back to leadership within the coaching staff.
  2. The more I research Jamey Chadwell, the more I like him. Parson would be a solid fit for what he likes to do offensively. Meshing the triple option attack with modern spread offense and RPO. He has been jam up pretty much anywhere he has been. He coached at Delta State he will not be foreign to Mississippi. I will say I like Lashlee a lot, but as others mentioned, only two years experience is a bit of a concern. I worry about age with guys like Fritz and Cignetti on the flip side. How much longer will they want to coach?
  3. If Gautier had a player ejected, he is out this week no matter what. Depending on when you get ejected, you could essentially miss two full games based on the rule from MHSAA. 4.10.7 Participant ejected from a contest in a sport or activity for unsportsmanlike conduct: 1. Any student ejected for fighting or “flagrant” unsportsmanlike conduct (Example, but not limited to cursing an official, fan, etc.; spitting, obscene gestures) shall be ineligible for a minimum of the equivalent of next football game (1 game plus the fraction of a quarter that the player was ejected) or next track meet or the equivalent of two contests plus the fraction of the period that the participant was ejected in any other sport (2 games in basketball; 2 games in softball and baseball; 2 games in soccer
  4. Better chance of them hiring Jimbo Fisher than Cody Stogner. LOL. I do not see him leaving Picayune unless the school forces him out.
  5. The only teams with a pulse that Gautier has faced, they have lost to. They have however feasted on the cupcakes they have faced. The Gators are going to get their points. Going to come down to if their defense can stop Florence. Not sure who has the edge in coaching department as I do not know much about Rod Davis as a HFC. The type of offense Florence runs may give the Gators some difficulties but I imagine it will be a close battle. I think Florence is a little more battle tested from looking at their schedule, but this Gator offense is fast and is capable of putting up points in a hurry.
  6. I would wager there is very littler merit to this. LOL I think CIgnetti, Lashlee, and Chadwell are your 3 best bets. As a lifelong State fan, I would love Chadwell honestly. He runs a great system that really spreads the ball around and is tough defend. As a Tulane alum, I would like to keep Fritz. LOL He appears to have elevated our program (especially over the past 2 years) to a higher level so State needs to not even call him.
  7. I think Elko, Chadwell and Lashlee are in situations where they can sort of wait for the right job. All 3 are relatively young (especially Lashlee). Cignetti and Traylor being older coaches may be more inclined to jump on something in my opinion being 62 and 55 respectively. I do like Cignetti though. He has a history of being a really good recruiter (even dating back to his early Bama days) which is something State needs.
  8. I agree on Herman. Obviously taking over FAU is a different situation than what he inherited at Houston or even Texas. He may need another year or two to really see some change. I think he could potentially be a great name in the next 2-3 cycles based on how he elevates FAU. For some reason, it seems to take coaches who replace Willie Taggart a little time to turn it around for whatever reason.
  9. I think Oak Grove has a better game plan this time around to slow Meridian down. Multiple D1 players on that defense. Time to put up or shut up in my opinion for them. I expect Oak Grove to win in a 42-21 game. Brandon took care of business last time vs. Pearl, I see this one being a little closer but Pearl being young and inexperienced is the difference here. I see Brandon in a 35-24 type of game.
  10. They looked unprepared in my opinion. Chalk it up to first year head coach in his very first playoff game after playing a cupcake schedule for region play. I hate it because it wasted probably the best defense Ocean Springs has ever had (probably will ever have). Defensively they are going to be essentially restarting from scratch. Offense will have some weapons, but loses some good offensive line and Quarterback. I know they Whitehead kid is talented as a quarterback, but putting him at quarterback takes a weapon off the perimeter. Maybe they can find someone to step up and take the sport. As far as coast football goes, it is a shame. Very few schools/districts really take it serious and the ones who do, you can see the rewards they are reaping. Too many districts do not believe that Academics and Athletics can be super successful together and it kills athletic programs.
  11. I think State definitely needs to get a guy with HFC experience, not necessarily P5 experience. Jamey Chadwell, Curt Cignetti, Mike Elko, Jeff Traylor, Rhett Lashlee are names I believe they could get that would be great hires.
  12. State has not looked this awful in 20 years almost. A change has to happen. You are going to see all of our talent flooding into the portal if they do nothing.
  13. You guys are the coast, brother. "Six Coastal Counties".
  14. Stockstill is going to be a name you hear for a lot of the jobs that are viewed as attractive from 5A-7A. He has a great resume and everyone I have heard speak of him has nothing but great things to say.
  15. I think he would have you guys back in business a lot sooner than later. He’s a great coach.
  16. Pass Christian. Was at Scott Central before that.
  17. The state began taking numbers based on grades 9-11 during the previous reclass cycle.
  18. In my opinion, it is much more about the perceived culture than wins and losses. It looks like Arnett has lost the team. It looks like recruits see it (just lost a commit from a 4 star receiver FROM Starkville). Could they go out and win vs A&M and Ole Miss? Sure! Odds are based on how this team is trending and playing, both games will be over relatively quick. Blowout losses to every SEC team with a winning record is a trend that says they will finish 5-7. Keep in my mind, State let Joe Moorhead go after a 6-6 season and bowl berth. It is a slippery slope about having 5 coaches in 6 seasons, but you cannot afford another awful season or a max exodus in the portal with players wanting to go elsewhere.
  19. I was told by some folks up that way that he is getting one more year. He was told to hire an OC, keep that OC and let them do their job. If they suck next year he is done.
  20. Glenn will have more chance. He is gone after next year if no improvement and by improvement, I mean they probably need to make the playoffs.
  21. Me and some buddies were talking about the possibility of a new HFC for Mississippi and these were best names in my opinion of coaches State could get with HFC experience: Jamey Chadwell Curt Cignetti Rhett Lashlee Clay Helton Wildcards: Manny Diaz Dan Mullen (LOL)
  22. 5A is just down overall in the south this year and I do not believe it is because we went to 7 classes. I just believe overall talent is down right now compared to years past.
  23. Consolidation is long over due for a lot of the smaller, rural areas. If the state could get consolidation to happen, going back to 5A would be awesome. I think the parity has been good overall this year. People complaining about teams with losing records making the playoffs must not have been paying attention the last decade or more because that has happened quite frequently year in and year out in 2-4A. If they keep it 7A. I would like to see the top 24 be 7A. 32 teams for 6-4A. 40 in 3-2A. Divide 1A as evenly as possible. Consolidation needs to happen. Too many small population schools within a 20 minute drive of each other.
  24. How does adding an additional class put more strain on the referees? It is still the same number of teams playing essentially as it was under 6A or am I missing something? Your other points make sense. I have seen 2 different people mention going to 7 classes puts more stress on the ref situation but I do not see how as we did not add any teams so it should be the same number of teams/games to get covered.
