Dawg83
For what it’s worth, looks like Lunardi has both State and Ole Miss safely in after Saturday. Not even on the bubble.
Bulldogs4
Still a long way to go. It is not an exaggeration to say this basketball season has been and is going to continue to be a grind. It is an old cliche but this year it is truly “one game at a time” You better be ready to play each and every game.
Bulldogs4
Great win by the State women over LSU 77-73. Really the first signature win by Purcell. Team has had some success but have not been able to win a game against one of the top teams. Great crowd definitely helped carry the team through this one. Go Dawgs!!!

MSU and OM would almost definitely be in the NCAAT IF the season ended today, but it doesn't and things will likely bounce back and forth for both teams unless they can go on a winning streak in conference play. Dawg83
Whoever wins tonight is in great shape. State’s schedule is a little bit easier after this week, and Ole Miss still gets to play Missouri twice (plus would already be at 5 league wins with a W here). Vegas has Ole Miss favored by 1.5 at home so for all intents and purposes this a true toss up. Still lean slightly toward OM winning on their home court. But State could win if they play well on the road for the first time. Edited January 30, 2024 by Dawg83

rebmus
UT losing at home to USC wasn't expected at all. OM/MSU is very back and forth as expected, MSU currently leading by 4. OM really needs to hold home court in this one.
David44
State’s effort, defense, rebounding, and Hubbard’s great 1st half are certainly commendable, but still going into the half tied and on a 80 point pace game. They need another player (Tolu?) to have a big 2nd half.
Dawg83
State started strong but can’t get a stop now.
Dawg83
This turning into a track meet definitely favors Ole Miss.
David44
12 seconds down 2, Hubbard 3 pt turn the lights out.

rebmus
2 very even teams, Ole Miss picks up the home win. Great effort by both teams and a very good game to watch.
Dawg83
Heck of an entertaining game…. Which is exactly the wrong kind of game for this State team to have a realistic chance of winning. People are going to remember the Matthews free throw misses and yeah that sucks that you can’t count on a senior in the clutch, and this is not the first time it’s been an issue. But this State team isn’t beating anyone when they give up 86 points. Don’t know what the main difference is this year but they have gotten abused defensively multiple times recently. Ole Miss needed it more than State did, but a missed opportunity for State. Now gotta go try to steal one in Tuscaloosa which will be very difficult. OM is playing really well and could absolutely beat Auburn at home on Saturday. They’re moving closer and closer to tourney lock status with just a few more wins. David44
Don’t understand why Jans would call a last second play sending a 59% foul shooter to the hole, knowing he may get fouled on the drive.
Dawg83
If you’re looking for positives for State, Davis and Moore played really well offensively after really struggling to this point. Maybe this finally gets them going a little.
MSTSatchmo
I was actually surprised it was close being a high scoring game. Each team had a guy out of the ordinary step up. Caldwell for OM with 4-5 from 3. Davis for State finally had a decent game with 15. I expect OM to beat Auburn in Oxford, and I don’t expect this close of a game in Tuscaloosa for State and Bama. I would’ve given it to Hubbard or one of the guards myself, but honestly Matthews had a great look. I know he was fouled but the contact was minimal and you kinda should make that shot and let it be an and-1 possibility. And also until that point Matthews had been playing really well offensively the last two games.

Dawg83
And look it’s entirely possible State gets smoked by Bama but I’m not totally ruling out the possibility of a surprise win. State played a better Bama team really close in Tuscaloosa last year. And arguably should’ve beaten Bama in Starkville a couple of weeks ago. This is kind of a weird State team where not much is off the table. Edited January 31, 2024 by Dawg83
