Ole Miss loses a close game at SC. Much like some of State’s losses, shouldn’t really hurt OM but does go down as a missed opportunity for a strong win.

Yep.

It was a good effort by Ole Miss and won't really hurt the NCAAT chances... but that was a chance at a win to really make Ole Miss a solid NCAAT team instead of leaving margin of error.

Wow, I was listening on the radio and Ole Miss was down 17 and then I went into a  meeting for about an hour and a half, come out and see that they lose by three. After reading the recap, it appears that they should have won this game.

For SCAR, this game may prove to be a red flag. Yes they hung on to win but blowing a big lead at home will affect your psyche in future games. Will be interesting to see how they play going forward. Would not be surprised to see them lose some games down the stretch.

Must win for State tonight at home. I’ve seen several bracket guys that have them in the Last 4 In right now. Ole Miss is pretty much right around that range too.

The graph they had on during our game last night said Ole Miss was a 10 seed and State was in the first four out. I'm sure that was one of the 10 predictions we can find online somewhere. Supposedly a loss last night wouldn't hurt OM. I still say, however, if the committee can find a reason to leave us out though we better not give it to them.

The next three games are absolutely critical for State to win all three. Georgia has a decent team but if State is going to be a NCAAT team, then it is a game you must win. Missouri & Arkansas are both struggling and need  to be victories as well.
Simple as that.

Yep, if you’re a tourney team there’s no good excuse for losing any of the next three. This is the easiest stretch of State’s SEC schedule, gotta capitalize on it.

Lunardi is usually pretty reliable but I also go by the Bracket Matrix, which kinda averages all the bracket experts into one number. Right now that has State’s average seed as like 10.2 and OM’s as 9.4. Obviously things change almost every day. For example, State’s Rutgers win improved from Q3 to Q2 overnight. But it’s bound to flip flop back and forth again.

Point still remains, when you’re close to the bubble like State is (and OM to a slightly lesser degree), you can’t afford bad losses. State has three Q3 games in a row now. Can’t lose any of them or else you’re in a major bind.

I don’t want to say we are better by subtraction but if Jones and Murphy can play like this each game (and there is no reason to think they can’t) then I would let Jeffries be a reserve when he is healthy again. These two give us much more offensive firepower. He is a veteran but he is a liability on the offensive end of the court.
Just my observation and opinion. Which is not worth much….LOL

I was thinking something similar. If they start playing well with Jones in the lineup, I’m not convinced Jeffries automatically gets his starting spot back. I mean they didn’t really miss him last night, not even defensively which is his strength.

And if Murphy can remain healthy, he can be star in this league. To be 6’10” and have the versatility he possesses, he can really help us down the stretch this season and into the future.

Good offensive skillset but gotta learn to play defense. He’s lacking on that side and that will keep him out of the starting lineup with Jans.

State women with a solid win over Georgia.
LAS oddsmakers are generally good at what they do.

State was favored by 14 points

Won by 19

Close enough there

O/U was 131.5

Score was 76-55 and at the buzzer UGA hit a jumper to make the final score 76-57.

Thus the under now went over…

I don’t do any betting but I found that interesting that they nailed the O/U game.

A&M pummeling Ole Miss in the Pavilion. Very surprising as the Ole Miss women have a good team. However getting blown out by a decent A&M team at home is definitely not a good look.

Women’s basketball is very unathletic to watch. The only team I dare to watch is the one I root for and that’s OM. That said, we looked like absolute shit tonight. How we could manage to get blown slap ass out by an A&M team with a subpar coach is beyond me. I get getting knocked off at home occasionally by a motivated visitor, but when you get blown out of the gym in a game you really really need to win, well, that’s just a little different.

State women hold serve and stay tied for second in the SEC with Tennessee and LSU at 7-3. Purcell has really got things moving in the right direction in Starkville. I thought they were overrated getting a preseason ranking but I was wrong. There’s probably not enough meat on the schedule remaining to boost the resume to move all the way to a host spot without a big sec tourney run but State still could end up with a 5 seed or 6 seed and have a real chance to get back to the sweet 16 at least.

Ole Miss looked god awful tonight in the second half. I don’t know what Coach Yo does during half time but outside of the Stanford game, I’ve never seen one of her teams make big adjustments and elevate play in the second half. This team continues to make me want to bang my head against the wall. another game at home that Coach Yo’s team comes out of the gate shooting cold as ice and playing less than inspired. This is why the crowds are small. Because the on court product in these bigger games is sloppy and poor.

This year was supposed to be the year that Yo got Ole Miss to the next level. Returned practically everyone except one player from last years rotation and grabbed 3 of the top transfers in the country, top 15 in all the preseason polls. Yet here they are 15-6 and 6-4, currently predicted as 8/9 seeds in most bracket predictions heading into tonight. Tonight’s loss hurts more so off the paper. They just don’t look like a good basketball team at this point. The point guard by committee situation is a disaster and really you’d expect them to be rounding into form as we near the post season. And what makes it worse is Ole Miss has 7 senior/grad transfers so it’s not a young team.

The point guard situation is hurting OM for sure. Losing the transfer from Florida to injury hurt. That said, we certainly laid an egg last night. A&M is not a team that should annihilate you at home in February. I hate to try and poke holes in what Yo has accomplished in her time at OM because we were god awful when she got here and she certainly deserves credit for turning things around big time. It will take time for some fans to get over her statements a few weeks ago though. As for halftime adjustments, I’m not an Xs and Ox guy in basketball, but I do know we don’t look crisp on offense and we have players who are streaky at best and haven’t really taken that next step in their games despite being in Oxford for multiple seasons. Scott is a good (not great) all around player but not somebody who’s gonna get you 20 plus. She just cannot hit jumpers consistently despite getting multiple open looks. Collins, who is the only Mississippi girl on the roster, and that side saddle shot of hers is streaky and can be big at times but also burns possessions when cold which is a lot of the time. We don’t shoot the ball well in general. There are two or three on the bench (thinking Eaton here) who played a lot last year and they are either no longer seeing the court or contribute little when they do get in. There is some sort of disconnect there. Finally, I almost wonder if Oxford is a women’s basketball town. Fact is, most places aren’t outside of Columbia, Baton Rouge and five or six others. I don’t see a reason why we couldn’t be, however.  Yo is the 10th or 11th highest paid coach in the country and in the toughest league in college basketball, but the climate around the program is a touch in a funk at the moment. I do hope it finds its mojo soon.
