Dawg83
If you wanna look ahead a couple of weeks, Auburn is now 7 in the NET. State and Ole Miss both play Auburn twice this year. So those are all going to be big opportunity games as well.
hasbeen67
I just happened to stumble onto the second half of MSU. Not a bad watch. They will need to work on beating the press. That's what almost cost them the game after being up pretty big. The next opponents will try also after seeing that. Not a basketball guy at all, but I'd think you throw over it a couple times, and they back off.

Literally passed it to nobody under the UT basket for gimme’s multiple times. But to be fair, UT is elite defensively.
Bulldogs4
I mentioned in an earlier post that we needed to win a game like this. It was a great win especially being able to withstand the pressure that TN put on us in the second half. We have usually cracked under that kind of pressure. Now we need to have the maturity to put this game behind us and play again at the highest level against Bama Saturday night. Last year we were close to beating them twice. The first game we lost it because we shot 50% from the foul line as a team and Tolu shot 20%. The game in TCL we led most of the way and just lost it at the end. Regarding handling the press, I think we have some excellent ball handlers but last night we panicked a few times. Hopefully, we will be better there and handle that better in the future. Beating Bama would be huge in that we are protecting the home court and we are proving that we cannot only be competitive with the top tier teams but that we can beat them. We will see what happens!!! Let’s Go Dawgs!!!!

At 7-5, he should be averaging at least 5/game. Saw this morning it was 9 breaking the Ole Miss single game record.
Bulldogs4
Both women’s teams blew huge leads against Auburn and Arkansas but each eke out three point wins at the end. And at the end of the game that is what counts. Still not sure what to make of either OM or State’s women’s teams this year. Both teams seem capable of making a run but both seem to dislike prosperity and are determined to make sure a game they have in hand becomes a nail biter at the end. Dawg83
Barring a late collapse Ole Miss is taking care of business against a bad Vandy team. Next week is big for them with road trips to LSU and Auburn. Probably would be thrilled with a split there if I were an OM fan.
MSTSatchmo
Murrell is a player. 6-12 from 3, had 18 at the half and finished with 24. He could be the difference in close games because he can score from three, hit mid range jumpers and drive.
Dawg83
Kentucky loses at A&M. Tennessee had to make a big comeback late to win at Georgia. I stand by what I said last week about life on the road is tough more often than not. We will see if that applies to Bama in Starkville tonight. NoWammies
Florida putting it to Arkansas. Arkansas about to drop to 0-3 in SEC play and quite possibly one of the biggest early disappointments of the season. Crazy that this team beat Duke. Bulldogs4
Disappointing finish. Miss 6 consecutive free throws to lose the game. Shades of last year against Bama. Gotta make your FT’s. Ugggggghhh.
Dawg83
Bama beats State in a close one. Tie game with 2:30 left and then State didn’t score again while going 0-6 at the FT line. That’ll do it. Shouldn’t hurt State since Bama is Top 5 in the NET but definitely a missed opportunity. 1-2 going to Kentucky, next. Been a long time since State has beaten UK in the regular season. Just a lot of tough games on this schedule and State will have to find a way to win several more big games.
Dawg83
My impressions watching Bama for the first time are that they are about what I expected, not as good as last year but definitely still good. Three’s and layups, that’s all they shoot. And they’re good at it. But yeah, free throws were definitely the difference in the game. Bama made theirs when they needed them, State did not. 85% for the winning team compared to 56% for the losing team says all you need to know. Same for Matthews and that was maybe even a bigger deal. State jumped ahead early by 9, then Matthews got in foul trouble, and from that point on I felt like Bama dictated the pace and State was doing everything in their power just to try and keep up, instead of setting their own pace. Bulldogs4
The only highlight of the weekend is State beating Ole Miss 69-57 in lady hoops. Otherwise it has been a dismal weekend.

We’ve got a couple girls, I won’t call names but their initials are Collins and Scott, who aren’t any better than they were three years ago. Insideradvantage
One other point, we’ve been outscored 41-15 in the fourth period over the last two games. Apparently we have forgotten how to close out games.

NoWammies
Ole Miss breaks into the Top 25 again at #22. Big week this week with 2 road games. Not to look past the LSU game but I’m ready for the road game at The Plains to see what Flanigan does after Auburn fans have said every possible negative thing you can about someone. The discrepancy between Ole Miss in the AP poll as compared to where they are in things like NET and KenPom is pretty big. Honestly not sure what to make of it. Most bracket experts have them on that 8 or 9 seed line pretty close to where State is. State has the better numbers according to all the metrics plus a clear signature win, but Ole Miss having a 15-1 record is just hard to ignore right now, even if they haven’t played that tough of a schedule outside of the Tennessee game, which didn’t go well. I think this week will tell us a lot. Not sure I see OM winning at Auburn, but at LSU is definitely winnable and it’s a sneaky big game for both. Winner in Baton Rouge on Wednesday moves to 3-1 in the league which is not really what was expected of either side before the year, Edited January 15, 2024 by Dawg83
Dawg83
Alabama not being in the Top 25 illustrates my point even better than OM’s situation. Bama has a Top 5 NET, Top 10 KenPom, and a 3-0 SEC record including two road wins, yet they’re not ranked in the AP poll because they played an insanely hard nonconference schedule and lost several times. It will all likely even out over the next several weeks but right now you can see things are still skewed in some areas. NoWammies
So Memphis isn’t a signature win? Pretty sure they’re in the top ten this week. Doesn’t State also have a signature loss to Southern since you wanna compare the two anytime something is mentioned of Ole Miss.
