Not to my knowledge sir. I had actually forgotten about this notification. I think I was a bit mixed up due to where some of the non football schools will fall.

In April what they changed from this sheet is to count only the 9th-11th grades for reclassification. That proposal was made after this sheet came out.

Wow! That's some good research. Thanks for taking the time to straiten me out. Why do you think the average enrolment numbers will drop so much? Just from the numbers I see it looks like most of the school you list are not having there seniors coming back to graduate. Or am I missing something?

Seniors will not be counted this time around. That proposal was passed in April. They could count the 8th-11th but who knows what percentages of say 8th grade at one middle school in Jackson will feed both Provine and Jim Hill for example.

Looking at the MHAA had book. The 2022 enrolment count 9th-11th grade will determine your head count for the next two years.

Quote

Beginning with the 2022-23 school year, reclassification will be based on enrollment figures in grades 9 – 11.

8.1.6 Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, the top 24 member schools with the greatest enrollment in grades 9 – 11 will be classified as 7A. The next 24 schools will be classified as 6A, the following 24 schools will be classified as 5A; 4A will be the next 40 member schools; 3A next 40 schools, followed by 2A the next 40 schools. The remaining member schools will be classified as 1A.

8.2 Changes in Classification

8.2.1 Classification changes and redistricting shall be considered in even numbered years to become effective the following school year.

8.2.3 Changes in classification and districts shall be made at regular two-year intervals.

8.3 Enrollment Calculation

8.3.1 In a classification year, a school’s classification shall be based on its total enrollment in grades 9- 11 as of October 1 of the current school year as verified by the Mississippi Department of Education. The Executive Director or his/her designee shall obtain the enrollment numbers from MDE. School enrollments reported to the MDE shall be considered official for classification purposes. 8.3.2 No requests for corrections shall be accepted by the Executive Committee after the MDE has certified the enrollment figures and the figures have been received by the Executive Director or designee.

8.3.3 A school’s classification enrollment shall include all students in grades 9, 10, 11. Each student shall be counted as one (1), regardless of the percentage of hours enrolled

seriously doubt they split up the jones county schools into different districts.

also north pike is technically farther south than south jones.

With only 6 schools in a region things can become tricky. Currently Laurel could have stayed 4A. Laurel and West Jones will be 6A, South Jones 5A/6A, NE 5A/4A.

Laurel will not 6A and I would about put money on that.  They will be 5A.  NEJ I was told had about 70 stundents more now than the last 2 years and they were close to being 5A last reclass.  South Jones is larger then laurel but about 100 below west jones.

WJ will be 6A but the rest will likely be 5A.

But only the 9th-11th grades will be counted this time around.

I believe that the most interesting potential move here is the downward movement of Picayune and Laurel into what will be the new 5a classification. New enrollment numbers may be larger, but if this happens it would be a huge shake up in the competition for 1st place in the coast 6A district next year.

Laurel is literally the smallest 5A school with Vancleave. That's why there were 33 schools in 5A. No way they jump up far enough to be in 6A. Only way that happens is if they count 7-12th at Laurel.

This. Laurel and Vancleave are LOCKS for 5A. I do not see any scenario where either would bump to 6A.

Here is a breakdown of 6A and 5A as best as I could do off last years 8–10th grades on MDE website.

Looking at this again, the district breakdown could change quite a bit by not adding seniors.  A couple kids moving in or withdrawing could effect several schools in the 5A/6A classifications.

Do we know how they will break each class down? Like, how many in 7A? How many in 4A? How many in 1A?

5A-7A is 4 6 team regions total 24 each

2A-4A is 8 5 team regions total 40 each

Remaining in 1A divided into 8 regions

Based on this, coast 7A Harrison Central would be odd man out and pushed up to Region 3-7A. Coast 6A would feature, George County, Picayune, Long Beach, Pascagoula, Gautier and West Harrison. PRC would be pushed up to Region 3 I would assume due to being further north than Picayune (albeit 15 minutes or less)? Wayne County, Hattiesburg, Terry, South Jones and West Jones with PRC would be a good region.

In that instance GC could possibly go north because they were there before.
