Portal SZN

According to Kiffin’s X(still weird putting that) two big fish have been caught that’ll be reported within the next 48 hours. I’m thinking it’s Key Lawrence and Princely Umanmielen(visited yesterday). That’ll give depth at safety with Key and a 2nd Team All SEC edge with Princely who led Florida in sacks and TFL last year and was graded as Florida’s top defensive player. I’m hoping it’s Juice and Princely.

ETA: Yesterday Louis Moore-S-Indiana signed. He finished with 83 tackles, three forced fumbles and three interceptions this year as the leader of IU’s secondary.

Just saw where Ole Miss got a USM OL from the portal. If it’s the same guy I think it is, he had a long day when State played USM several weeks ago. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he stinks as a player.

I know State is expecting to have a number of portal guys on campus this weekend. Nobody that’s a huge name but some interesting options. I like the WR’s from LA Tech and UTEP that are supposed to be visiting. Would like to see them lock down the North Texas center that visited last weekend, he had really good PFF numbers for 2023.

I see Nolan only started 6 games this year.  Was he injured last year?

I remember him getting hurt against Tennessee but it wasn’t season ending. I also think it’s fair to say he maybe hasn’t quite lived up to his potential yet. Not that he’s been a bad player, just not this totally dominant DT so far.

What’s that over $1.5m on the D line?   Your post earlier with the screenshot of Nolan and Umanmielen I noticed had the NIL value.  I’ve never seen that before.  That’s really interesting.   I’m guessing that’s the NIL estimated value for next season?

It’s crazy and really interesting.  I don’t really think most of these guys are doing anything with their name, likeness or image.  I guess the “collectives” have the rights to use it if they want.  Just a way to throw a ton of money at players to play for your school.  I wonder if any deals are incentive based?   If you give money to a collective do you have any rights to those players’ names?  Lot’s of questions and grey areas.

You know if players currently on the team see what someone’s “value” is in the portal, then the portal guys sign with the team, they players already starting are going to want similar pay also.  Will the WRs that returned to OM get paid at least what the SC WR is getting?   The NCAA has no control over what’s happening now, I bet, and they can’t stop what they’ve started.

Decam Richardson in the portal for State. Not a huge difference maker but a decent player. I again don’t think I can emphasize enough just how tempered expectations should be for Lebby in Year 1. This roster is going to be a mess for 2024.

I was kinda wondering is Judkins holding out to see what guys like Etienne and Rocket Sanders get because he’s still never come out and said anything unless the rumor was just a rumor. It’s basically become the NFL though.

Ettiene’s estimated value is around $500k.  If Judkins was already making $750k, like someone said on here, he’s good.  Just trying to get a raise.  Lol

I agree with what Matt Rhule said.  They’ll have to start making binding contracts and players can’t leave unless a) there’s a buyout or b) you get something in return.   Once you have the player, you have to get some value in return if he leaves.  Now “collectives” can approach anyone and say “hey we will give you X amount” and once there’s a transfer they don’t have to legally give them anything.

Lebby will have to be SECCOY just to get State bowl eligible next year.

I don't think that would necessarily qualify him for that, but to get to 6 wins would definitely be quite the accomplishment with all of the overhaul that will need to take place.  The conference away games are brutal and so you can't count on those as wins, but if you can win all of the non-conference games and get a couple of the home games to go State's way, then it'll be mission accomplished.  I think the main thing is can State consistently field a competitive team every week.  That may not result in wins, but as long as State is fundamentally better it'll be a step in the right direction.

I need to know more about how the roster shakes out, but on paper there’s a path to 6 wins. Win four nonconference games, beat Arkansas and Florida at home when both might be firing their coach next year. It’s not a slam dunk to happen, because I even have some concern about playing at Arizona State and playing Toledo who just won 11 games. But it’s not that crazy of a scenario to think State can get to 6-6.

Now anything above that, yeah that’s going to be super tough to do.

Cross and Hadad discussed these "NIL estimated values" on their show yesterday and agreed they're pretty much made up.

I agree.  On3 uses an “algorithm”, so they say, that factors performance, influence and exposure.  I’m sure other recruiting sites have their own way of estimating value.  Probably intended to get more views.   However, I think it probably has players expecting to get certain amounts.

Matt Rhule said he had coaches upset when he was interviewed and said to get a good QB now you have to spend $1-2m in the portal.  Other coaches told him thanks now the QBs expect it.
