Portal SZN

Kiffin has proven to be astute at utilizing the transfer portal to his maximum advantage. And until it backfires on him, he will probably continue to succeed. Putting together teams one  year at a time is very difficult but he has been able to overcome that so far.
2024 might be a watershed type year. Meaning that the strategy pays 100% dividends and Ole Miss goes to the playoff and has a great year.
The margin for error is so small that a couple of hiccups or untimely injuries or just plain bad luck could derail the season. The other thing is Ole Miss going to get everyone’s best shot this year. The question will be can they win some games not playing their best against other teams best effort. That will probably tell the tale on this season.

I want to feel bad about all these commitments we’ve lost the last few days but for some reason it just ain’t happening. I hope I’m right or maybe I hope I’m wrong. It’s all so confusing.

The last I checked Miss St. if that is the program you're referring to, has lost 25 and picked up 19 in the portal with both the outgoing and incoming players largely consisting of the same caliber of athlete per the star ratings.

I’m referring to Ole Miss. I figured that would be obvious. The 2025 class.

I don’t think being heavy on the portal, and less emphasis on high school will backfire.
It’s completely different than signing JUCOs was.  You know these guys can play against major competition.
Plus, because of the portal you can’t develop players for two years down the road anymore. Someone will take them and your effort will be for nothing.
As long as your school can keep paying for portal players, you’ll get them.

Definitely agree that this is the future although obviously you still have to recruit high school players. Not just Kiffin but all coaches are going to face the problem of chemistry with having so much turnover with your team. OL is probably the most critical part of your team and guys being on the same page there only happens with experience.
That is only one reason that I believe the quality of the product on the field is going to only get worse in the years ahead. Mistakes, blown assignments etc. on both sides of the LOS are going to increase exponentially if the current system of the Wild Wild West continues.
Football was a sport that inherently has always  about developing players into being a good/great team. That is now gone forever.
