Both teams should be fighting for the top spot in district. I also think both teams will be equally talented. I would probably give OS the edge on defense. Who knows what the offense will look like, but the athletes are there to make it a fun game. Meh I think our defense is gonna be really talented this year as well! I like our RB and QB though we shall see! I think we can win a couple playoff games at Gulfport this year!

Nico Williams 6’4 200 pounds played receiver this year I like him a lot. Quote from rivals camp last year. “Not many quarterbacks come through the combine but Williams did and left a big impression as the 6-foot-4 prospect in the 2024 class is tall and lean, moved well and had a 32-inch vertical as well. Louisiana is showing interest in the Gulfport, Miss., prospect who missed time his sophomore season because of injury but who has the frame to be a quality quarterback at the next level.”
Wildcats1980
Without Mr. Football I don't see Ocean Springs beating Gulfport. He was their Offense. I see them losing at least 3 games this year. Just my opinion. Their upcoming recruiting class could change my opinion.

I believe my kids said there 7-8 starters coming back with some talent filling the void of those leaving. Offensively, they are losing their two best receivers, a few OL and Bray Hubbard. RB Will Smith will be returning and he is a very good player. However, he is coming off a season ending injury so no telling how he will be. They have a dynamic freshmen QB Sherroid Whitehead who is quick as a hiccup. He is not very big so that is concerning if they plan run him like they did Bray. There is also rising SR QB William Berglind. He is a good kid and has been in the system for a few years and has done well with the opportunities he has been given. Also rumors that John Jordan will be coming back out as well. He was freshmen team QB in 2021 and was a really nice player. It will be retooling of sorts in my opinion offensively, but I fully expect the defense to be one of the best in the state next year.

I would add that only two or three starters on the defense graduated, and those who return were the leading tacklers and play makers. The upcoming freshman class will provide a lot of talent for filling holes and starting players. The O.S. offense will indeed have to retool in some ways. Positives are the Oline, which returns most positions and will add a freshman expected to come in and improve it immediately. Average Oline weight will be near the 300 lb. range, which will support a running game with several quality RBs behind a reportedly fully healthy Will Smith. A couple of 9th graders were brought up for the playoffs last year, including Whitehead. Obviously, losing Bray will be hard to overcome, but not impossible. Lastly, it’s been said in an earlier post that new incoming head coach Bramlette didn’t run the offense or call plays in game time situations. Not true. He called all plays at least the last two years, either from the sidelines or the press box in tandem with the head coach. I’m sure that the past coach will give him his due credit, if honest about it. I’m confident that he will get as much out of this talent as anybody could. The facilities are being improved even more, and I look forward to seeing the team playing just as well as before. And lets not forget, he DIDN'T win it all even with Mr Football on his team. He's a middle of the pack coach who has been successful with elite talent. His record was boosted because 6A coast football is garbage. They basically had 3 games against decent teams this year. Clinton, Oak Grove, and Brandon. And Brandon wasn't even playing its best football of the season when they won. Overrated coach, overrated team. I’m probably not the best guy to be promoting the coach that left Ocean Springs, but I will say that what he built there wasn’t just a one player deal. The weight room and nutrition system was much improved, though run by assistant coach Bramlette. His offensive scheme was multiple, but made explosive by Bray. Overall, a well run game day plan and booster club growth. Those are things that a good coach can bring. On the other hand, his clock management and, especially handling onside kicks is up for question. I liked everything about the improvement he brought with him, but hoping that his protege can take the next step. New stadium and the coming new near million dollar facilities should help. Getting an athletic director and superintendent to support him will definitely help.

I just don’t see why so many are trashing Bramlett and holding Pennock up on a pedestal when he’s never won anything that mattered as a head coach. I’m obviously not a fan of coast football. They are entitled for absolutely no reason. They have their own little coast rankings throughout the year because outside of Picayune they are relatively insignificant to the rest of the state. They trash people for no reason and praise people who have never won more than their garbage region. I’ll shut my mouth as soon as someone in that region at least makes it to the state championship. They all have their entire careers to prove me wrong. Edited February 16, 2023 by JagsFan77

It ain't there. You're just throwing s!&% at the wall trying to bolster your perceived grievance.

Mediocre wins that region on the coast. That’s why that entire region has a combined zero appearances in the state championship since 6A was even created. Every other region in the state has had a team in the championship. I’m not yelling. I’m just not sugar coating it. And like I said, he hasn’t won the game that matters at the state level. I saw it and it wasn't disparaging to comment on him clearly not being the best candidate among Collier, DuBose, and Stockstill, all of whom have been very successful head coaches (two of which are state championship winners).
