I can’t really argue with Bama being the last team in.

Miami has beaten nobody.

SC lost to both Bama and Ole Miss.

Ole Miss just didn’t have the resume. I can understand how you might lose on the road to LSU or Florida. That Kentucky loss will forever be inexplicable. UK was 0-8 against P5 teams not named Ole Miss this year…. And they won in Oxford.

Hard for OM to blame anyone but themselves given how clear the path was. They even had help from the SEC being kinda down. If they win one more game, not only are they in but they’re likely hosting a game.

I can buy a legit argument between Ole Miss, Bama, and Miami being the last team in. That's a very tough choice and I'm glad I'm not on the committee to make it.

And of course it all changes if Clemson beats SMU. That scenario could bump Bama out too.

Yep, that's why it was important to be in Bama's spot in this week's ranking... more important to be 1 spot higher.

The committee could reshuffle the teams not playing this Saturday, but I doubt it.

So the bottom line is better wins count for more than bad losses. And good losses don’t really matter even if you win six straight games to close out the season.

And at the time the loss to Kentucky, while surprising, was not that bad considering that Kentucky was coming off a one point loss to Georgia and was expected to have a really good team this year. But as the season moved along it obviously became worse and then even more severe when Kentucky just completely fell apart.
The end result costing Ole Miss a top ten ranking. That game also goes to show you on any given Saturday in the SEC anything can happen.

I still maintain had SC & Bama been reversed, then Bama would be sitting at 11 this week with SCAR behind Ole Miss (everything else being equal). The bias for Tuscaloosa is real and very much evident.

Ole Miss gets two early morning signatures from skill guys that should start as freshmen. Cunningham and Mills-Knight both should make immediate impact with the offense. Still waiting on Dillon Alfred to sign. Him, Cunningham, Cayden Lee plus whoever we get in the portal should make a solid WR group for Simmons to throw to. On the OL Kenneth Boston signed this morning and could also possibly be a day 1 starter. Comes in with a big body at 6’8 320 and moves good for his size as well. Him with Devin Harper who hasn’t signed yet sets the OL up good for the future. On defense Maison Dunn from Tupelo signed who I expect will see good amount of playing time in the secondary as a freshman. Bama and Louisville made a late push for him but he ended up sticking with Ole Miss. Him, Ladarian Clardy(waiting on signature) and Keon Young(also signed this morning) will be the future of the secondary.

ETA:Dillon Alfred and Devin Harper are now signed.

Pretty rough signing day for State. Two best defensive commits flipped to South Carolina and Ole Miss. It’s a JUCO heavy class with not many difference makers on the surface.

I know the portal still has to play out, but confidence in State’s program is at a major low right now. Lebby is borderline insane if he doesn’t make some staff changes, which I tend to think he will, but which staff?

I do not think State could have handled the last 4-5 months months any worse if they tried. Suffices to say Lebby’s start has been…. Shaky

It’s a different world now in regards to signing day.  You have to have a coaching staff that can recruit and sell the school AND you have to have a collective who is paying more for a player than someone else.  I’m not sure State has either.

If you fail on those two fronts, you’ll lose games and the image of the program will keep dropping.  Mullen had State respected in the college football world, and even under Leach they were known to be a team you need to be ready for.  Now there is no respect and it’s a bad time to be in that spot.

I’m not ready to abandon ship on Lebby just yet but given that he’s seemingly bringing Hutzler back and as I’m looking at this high school recruiting class, boy he better have himself an all time transfer portal season. Because if not, there’s a very realistic chance he starts his career with back to back 0-8 SEC records.

Ole Miss had a pretty good day. No one flipped and that’s a great thing. Ended the day getting two solid players in Tyler Lockhart and 4 star WR Winston Watkins that I didn’t think we’d get. Not a lot of guys that’ll boost your ranking into the top five but a bunch of guys if you watch their film you know they’re going to contribute once on campus.

I remember when NSD felt like Christmas morning but the way things are now it’s kind of like alright let’s see who we’re leasing for a possible year or two.

Sounds like State’s in the running for Jackson Arnold. But I think everyone’s bought in on MVB. Would be kind of an uncomfortable situation if Lebby lands him

No it wouldn't.  Sounds like a good problem to have.  As bad as this season went, I'm not bought in on anybody.  If Jackson Arnold can help Mississippi State win ballgames then get him in the damn boat.

MVB is being courted by other programs so don’t be shocked if something happens there.

State has plenty NIL funds and will improve some next year. The issue is by how much? I feel like 4 or 5 wins would be an amazing deal considering the current talent void. Folks need to realize there is going to be a tiny difference(injuries, bad calls) between about the #5 SEC team annually and the #15 team.  just too much talent in the league to be otherwise, hence the need to expand the playoff deal to at least 16 teams.

Who was held hostage?  Is Ole Piss actually butthurt?

Him in an interview today saying “I signed with Ole Miss but my momma didn’t” hurts my heart for the kid with this being the holiday season. See you next season when you’re 18 kid!!!
