3 fouls in 2 seconds!?   Not at the end of the game to force FTs?

Two of them were dead ball fouls. All of them were very ticky tacky.

It’s really unfortunate that officiating got involved because State played a heck of a game and had a real chance for one of the biggest upsets in program history.

This team kinda feels snakebit. Been very competitive in all but one SEC game, and yet they are sitting here at 1-7 now, with No. 11 TCU coming to The Hump this weekend.

I did not get to see or hear the game. But it sounds like we played well enough to win the game. SEC officials have been bad for decades at protecting the higher ranked teams. KY has been protected for numerous decades. I remember several games with them that were stolen away from us by the officials.

Sounds like the same thing happened last night since Bama is ranked #2.

State - Bama is the most physical basketball rivalry in the conference. In Starkville they let them play. Last night 28 minutes into the game they start calling nit picky fouls. Sounds fishy to me.

I am still rolling with this group. At some point good things are going to happen.

MSU is playing hard, the wins just aren't coming yet... which is certainly understandable with a first year head coach.

I'm not sold MSU climbs out of the bottom 3 (bottom 4th at best maybe?) this season, but I lean they'll be better the next two seasons.

I'm a huge fan of Kermit and really hope I'm wrong, I doubt OM finishes better than bottom 2 and dead last is quite probable.

The 20-8 first period ended up being the difference in that game.  It just proved to be too big a hole to climb out of.  When you come out flat and don’t show up to play from the very beginning you get beat and that is what we saw tonight.  If you take the first period away State is only down by 3 which would be very manageable, but the deficit was just too big to overcome.  Myah Taylor has definitely made some history in being a part of sweeps on both teams.

Obviously Schaefer isn’t here anymore, but it’s amazing how this rivalry has swung in OM’s favor the last couple of years. The gulf between the two could not have been bigger as recently 2020. I believe State won something like 12 in a row against OM at one point and most of them were 20 or 30+ point blowouts.

Coach Yo has done a good job while State has lost all its momentum from the Schaefer era. Jury is still out on Sam Purcell, I can’t decide if I think he’s the long term answer a lot. Good dude, think he’ll recruit well, not sure about his actual coaching.

That's the thing.   There's a difference in being a good recruiter and a good coach.  Hopefully he's got a combination of the two, but if he doesn't it'll probably be a short tenure.  Vic was in rare air in that he was able to do both, but initially he didn't get any 5 star McDonald's All Americans.  He had to coach his players up to that level, but was able to do so.  Can Purcell do the same thing?  The answer to that question remains to be seen. I also think Sam needs some more time to get the roster like he wants it, but he should have that pretty much complete by year 3.

I was surprised that Shaefer and Texas dropped out of the Top 25 after rising up to #3.   I figured that was the start of a long run of success for Texas.   I’m not sure what the deal is there.

I guess that's just proof that the grass ain't always greener on the other side.  He had a good thing going at State and had just bought a farm in Starkville when he took the Texas job.  Who knows what he saw in the Texas job.  I mean they probably paid him more, but he was making pretty good bank in Starkville.

Eh, I mean he went to the Elite 8 in both of his first two years so I’d say it’s largely going just fine. And it’s not like they’re bad this year, still 15-6 and should be an NCAAT team. People forget that his big run of being elite at State was in Years 5-7 for him. They were awful his first year at State and then slowly built into a powerhouse at their peak.

I think Purcell is a huge upgrade from McCray-Penson. Novak did a credible job last year to keep the team together and remain competitive.

Honestly, I am pleased with where the women are right now. Certainly disappointed that we lost two games to Ole Miss but rivalries fluctuate over time.

Going forward I think we will climb back up the ladder in the SEC. He signed a good class this year and hopefully the debacle of 2020-2021 will fade into the rear view mirror. Fan support is solid. Future looks much brighter today than it did a year ago.

Schaefer professed reason for leaving was his aging parents (who live in AUS) and the onset of COVID. After Cohen left back in the fall, there was speculation that those two did not see eye to eye. Perhaps that was part of it. Additionally at his age, he may have felt like it was the right time to make a move.
Will always appreciate what he did for State.
Regarding Texas, I had doubts that his blue collar style would mesh there with all those prima Donna’s. His first two seasons were good and they have dropped off some this year. Will be interesting to see how he and TX fares when they join the SEC in a couple of years.

Big win for MSU beating #11 TCU today.

This MAY be the win MSU needed to figure out how to win games... they've been so close the past few weeks.

They do a lot of good things as a team.   Just have to make shots, and they were falling today.   The win was huge considering they had a double digit lead late in the first and let it slip away in the second half.

Finally the monkey is off the back. This team desperately needed a win. Now the key is to build off this win. Game at South Carolina Tuesday Night is crucial. But very proud of this team for persevering today and winning this game. Understand that TCU had some injuries but that is part of the game.

Definitely agree with you that the fans are back on board. Winning today was tremendous but the reason the fans are showing up is the team is playing with 110%+ effort. And I think everyone appreciates that and we understand if we continue to play like that, the wins will come.

Hopefully today will start another win streak.

State has gotten past the brutal part of their schedule. Lot of winnable games out there now, starting at South Carolina on Tuesday. Win that one and the Mizzou game next Saturday is another huge home game.

The NCAAT is still a long shot but the door isn’t completely closed. And the NIT path is certainly a realistic possibility. I think most would be pleased with an NIT bid in Year 1.

I was looking at MSU's schedule last night 83, it's definitely lighter loaded the rest of the way.

There's definitely potential for a respectable finish or even an NIT bid which should be above expectations in year 1.

I surely hope I am wrong about this, but I can see Southern Miss and MS State playing a first round game in the NIT. It still may take a So miss tournament title to make the NCAA, but considering where they were last yr even an NIT bid is a huge success. Maybe they can face off in the NCAA at the regional in Birmingham in the first round.
