You got 3 6A and 3 5A there.  And left out 5A to be northeast jones.

That's my point, use other factors like location and competitiveness in addition to school size. I didn't include NE jones because its a little too small and not as competitive as the other teams.

I actually like the thought process here. However, how would you determine who is 7A, 6A, 5A, etc.?

By numbers PCS would be 3A, but I heard something about the possibility of them being made to play up a class due to being able to "recruit" via scholarship. Is that a thing? And then there's also the rumor that some parents don't like the move to the MHSAA and are pulling their kids and starting a new school. IF that happens, they'd lose some kids - but it would be too late to affect the 2025-27 classification.

Also had confirmed this week that both Sumrall HS and Purvis HS are being pushed from 4A to 5A. They were the largest of the 4A and will now be the smallest of the 5. Yikes. Not good for either in football. They were already getting killed in 4A. But they'll continue to be fine in baseball.

Harrison Central bout to go to region 3 and play petal oak grove Meridian and the jackson area schools

Only way Harrison Central joins that region is if one of the existing teams in it gets moved down to 6A. Idk that'll happen: Brandon, OG, Northwest Rankin, Petal, Pearl and Meridian... who you got going down to 6A?

Meridian was 1 student from dropping to 6A. Now both Meridian and Murrah brought the old rule back that if 2 schools finished tied at the bottom they both go up. Thus you have 25 in 7A. That takes away the 41st school needed in 3A Region 8 to have 5 football teams. All of  a sudden Region 4 7A has only 4A schools to play in an open date come October on their schedule. There are no 2A schools on the coast. And no Gulfport and Ocean Springs aren't playing Resurrection. I don’t think. Maybe they can get 6A or 5A Region 4 to set up a similar Region schedule to fill an open date late in the schedule.

Sounds like it would be going back to the old conference days, which is not happening again.

You can't divide the state in 4 quarters and have Calhoun City or Bogue Chitto play 5A ball because they better for various reasons. That's why you divide classes by enrollment. The more populated areas have larger schools due better opportunities to succeed in life such hospitals, industry, etc. Try driving 40 miles one way to work daily because we country folks don't have high taxes etc. It's what comes with the territory. The country folks are going to live in 1A-4A school districts. The city folks live where things are nicer and attend 7A-4A schools. The association sets their own rules over time. And no you can't expect every 2A size school to play 7A schools all the time.

To me this just illustrates why the larger regions of 8 teams are preferrable. It makes filling a schedule easier. Of course that would mean fewer classes overall and we know that's not going back in the bottle.

I think 1A goes back to 4 regions  for scheduling. Then 6 or 8 playoff teams per region. I prefer 6 or 8 football teams per region. It's not happening in 1A with appx 12 or 14l3 non football schools.

Sumrall HS and Purvis HS are both moving up to 5A. Which means 2 current 5A schools have to be moving down to 4A. Idk who those are 2 are. But that’ll factor in as well. Sumrall and Purvis are both smack dab in between Jackson and the coast - making both available for a wide area of contests.

Coast wise I am hearing West Harrison is expected to move up and Hancock possibly as well. I read in another thread there was talk of Meridian maybe going down to 6A as well.

This is an interesting scenario.

If WH and Hancock both move into 7A, there would have to be some realignment in North vs South, forcing a current south team to go North to make room for both the new 7A teams on the coast.

Looks to me like that would force Brandon to join Madison Central in going North alongside Tupelo, Oxford, and Starkville - making them the powerhouse region. Guessing that would not be a popular decision among those schools.

NW Rankin further North than Brandon. Then Pearl is on the north side of I-20 vs Brandon on the south side of I-20. Both have been in the north in recent years.

What you see on page 12 of the posted classes i was told Friday night is official. It will not change. Regions are being worked on now.

I have wondered what an east/west alignment would possibly look like, rather than north/south.

Rough Guess 7A

R1-Tupelo, Starkville, Meridian, Ocean Springs, D'Iberville, Biloxi

R2-Petal, Oak Grove, St Martin, Gulfport, Harrison Central, Brandon

R3-Oxford, NW Rankin, Pearl, West Harrison, Murrah, DeSoto Central

R4 Hernand, Lewisburg, Horn Lake, Southaven, Madison Central. Clinton, Germantown

R3 Grenada, Terry, Olive Branch, Canton, PRC, Picayune

You're not too bright, are you?

You asked for an east to west alignment.  I gave you two classes. Now you see why they don't go that route. Region 1 has always started in NE Ms. Region 2 has always been south of Memphis or south of Tupelo. Region 3 has always been in the Delta. Region 4 in Starkville area. In 4A recently Region 4 north of I-20. Now that Region will be Region 5. Region 5-8 from Meridian,  then Jackson, SW Ms, Hattiesburg  area and last the coast.
