We have two OOC games left that are must wins.

 We know one win at a time has to be the mentality. But we are fans so we can speculate.

2-0 in those games + 6-3 in the final 9 conference games would put us at 37-18 and 18-12 in the SEC. 
If we did that and went 2-2 in the Tournament, we would host IMHO.

 

But it is a long way to go still. And in some ways I would be okay with us being a two seed somewhere else. Sometimes that takes pressure off a team. 
 

A win like today kind of feels like the ole Diamond Dawg mojo is back.

The thing about State hosting is that there are as many as 9 SEC teams in the hosting mix still.

 

A&M, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky are all basically locks to host.

 

South Carolina took a huge step in that direction by winning a series against UK.

 

State and Vandy are above .500 in the league but need to win 5-6 games down the stretch.

 

Georgia and Bama both have Top 15 RPI’s but sub .500 league records. If either finishes strong, they could host.

 

Bama at State next weekend, loser likely eliminated from hosting contention, winner very much has a chance.

State went from being unranked to being vaulted up to #16 in the D1Baseball poll.  I just wish they would have let State fly below the radar a little bit longer.  State still has a lot of business to take care of and they'll need to take care of it 1 game at a time.

I’ll say this though, if State can get those kind of starts from Auger, with what they’ve already been getting from Khal and Jurrangelo, that’s a formidable rotation to walk into the postseason with.

Agree, only problem is there are only 2 or 3 arms in the pen that can be trusted.

Also, what is the deal with Pico, is he not on the SEC weekend roster? He has looked sharp in his midweeks, he could give us an inning or 2 on a weekend.

I wonder if they are trying to get him in shape with these weekday outings with the idea that he will be able to help on the weekends as we get closer to the end of the regular season.

Ole Miss has a VERY VERY SLIM chance to have postseason hopes after losing a home series to Bama this past weekend. 

 

MSU is in VERY GOOD shape to make the postseason after this weekend. 

 

We'll see how it plays out.

Interestingly enough, if the season ended today, State vs Ole Miss would be the 5 vs 12 game in Hoover. You know, the one that always ends at like 2 or 3 AM.

Ole Miss/LSU/Mizzou appear to be three teams jockeying for the last two spots in Hoover. Auburn is likely already cooked with their 3-18 SEC record.

State wins the Guv Cup. Close game until State’s final AB in the 8th at which point Ole Miss very much unraveled. Game seemed to totally change on a wild pitch that allowed a runner to advance from first to third.

State with a 5-1 win in a game much closer than the score indicates. 1-1 game going into the bottom of the eighth before State got a four spot. 
 

Big Big win for State. Every game is so important right now. 
Huge series with Bama. Need to win two this weekend. Going to be tough as they are a solid team. 
 

But tonight was a good win.

It was definitely exciting to watch and yes it was closer than the score indicated, but it’s a solid win for State and hopefully it’ll stabilize the RPI ranking as well.  Hopefully we can win the series against Bama this weekend.

Win 7 of the final 10 and I think State is hosting. 6 might be enough if you then go win a game or two in Hoover.

I just hope State tries to make a concerted effort in Hoover this time because Hoover isn't far away and in theory could have more State fans there than any other fan base in the SEC there.

Well Hoover didn’t matter for State in 2019 or 2021. It might matter this time.

I tried to tell you we are terrible. When was the last time you saw two bases taken on a wild pitch unless it's coach pitch? That turned things on a dime, and the self inflicted floodgates opened after that. Not that it matters. We are done and have been dang near all season.

The RPI for Ole Miss is very deceptive.

Yep, that's one of many examples this season. 

1 thing goes bad and it becomes a snowball down the hill with this team... lack of confidence IMO.

The bad has definitely snowballed for Ole Miss this year. The team has talent. But as you allude to, one thing going wrong in a particular game seemingly just compounds.

 

This weekend’s atmosphere at State will likely be the best since 2021. Should be a lot of fun at the Dude.

Might be dead wrong on this and I hope I am… I kinda think Bama wins two in Starkville. Just think that’s a dangerous team, and State is possibly due a letdown.
