Ideally you'd want to win the Friday game, but it's all going to depend upon a quality start by Stephen and also being able to get some timely hits with the Arkansas ace and tapping into their pen around the 6th inning. Hagen Smith has been unreal, I personally don’t think State has a good chance at all on Friday. Saturday, yes I agree with you.

You cannot let the Saturday crowd become a factor in that one.
Bulldogs4
Stephen has pitched well. May be one of these classic pitching matchups that make baseball fun. And you are right that Smith has been great all year. On Sportstalk earlier someone asked about saving Stephen for Saturday or Sunday. That is dumb and dumber. These are the kind of matchups that players look forward to. You want your best guy against their best guy. We will see what happens. Nah they won’t do that if for no other reason than next week is a short week where you start on Thursday. That said, State did use this very strategy against Skenes last year and it worked out. Got crushed in the Skenes game and then won the other two. My best guess is State wins the middle game with Jurrangelo throwing and Arkansas wins Friday and Sunday. Bulldogs4
But last year we were terrible. Totally different scenario. This year we want our best guy going against their best guy. If you saved Stephen for Saturday, that tells your team you have no confidence in beating the other team. Also Lemonis is 1-11 against Van Horne. And that is including two CWS teams one of which won the Natty. So the odds are kind of similar to Ole Miss-State. Eventually we are going to beat them. Might as well be this weekend. LOL. Bulldogs4
Both Stephen & Smith had good outings but not what either expected. Each gave their team a chance to win which is really what you expect.
Bulldogs4
Tough loss for the Dawgs… But it was a good game overall. Hopefully we burned some their best arms tonight.
maroontide06
Well State is going to have to try to win one tomorrow. Left too many on base.
Dawg83
That felt like a missed opportunity. Arkansas had the clutch gene late, State had…. The opposite of the clutch gene.

Dawg83
State has a knack for losing in ways that make you wanna pull your hair out. I’d rather take a 6-0 L than be teased with the possibility of winning and then having the rug pulled out from underneath…. Multiple times…. Bulldogs4
Ole Miss 4 A&M 3 saw it coming. Just the SEC way.

Dawg83
Ole Miss crushing A&M in Game 2 as well. On the verge of taking the series. What?
Dawg83
State up 8-0 on Arkansas in the 4th. Hogs have walked a ton of people this weekend. Weird showing for what was the best pitching staff in the county coming in. State desperately needs to hang on here, but I have been traumatized too many times by this bullpen the last three years to trust just yet. Bulldogs4
But Arkansas has halved the lead to 8-4 in the 6th inning. We need to score more runs to win this game…
maroontide06
State won! Whohoo!

Dawg83
It was stressful but weirdly State’s pen did fine. 4 of the 5 runs were off Jurrangelo. Kudos to Schuelke, Auger, and Davis for holding the line.
Bulldogs4
Big win for State!!! At least we have a chance to win the series now!!! Tomorrow is a new day!!! Lets Go Dawgs!!!
Bulldogs4
And two of the runs by Arkansas were unearned…
maroontide06
Apparently it was only the 3rd loss Arkansas has had at Baum all season.
Dawg83
Arkansas probably the favorite tomorrow given that State used a lot of their best arms tonight. But hey you never know on Sundays. Not sure who State starts since they used Auger tonight. Maybe Pico? Or Ligon?
Dawg83
Georgia sweeping SC is relevant for State. Think it clearly puts State above SC in the host pecking order now. Also makes Georgia likely a lock to host.
