Dawg83
Welp apparently I was one day early on the bullpen meltdown for State. 6-0 lead has turned into an 8-6 deficit. It is hardly a secret what this team’s Achilles heel is as we close in on the postseason.
Bulldogs4
Story of State’s season. Just not good enough in the bullpen. Still not a bad weekend though.
maroontide06
As soon as we pulled Pico out of the game, it was an instant meltdown. That won’t get you far in any postseason tournament.

And to be fair, injuries probably don’t get talked about enough with this group. They’ve lost 4-5 arms they were expecting to be key pieces in the rotation or pen since the fall. I mean heck, they lost their Friday night starter in the last nonconference weekend and everyone has kinda forgotten about it.
maroontide06
As good as Parker has been as far as statistically speaking, he is going to have to work his butt off to bring in some quality arms for next season. Hopefully he’ll be able to do that.

Bulldogs4
Still we went toe to toe with possibly the #1 team in the nation on their field. Had a chance to win all three games. Two tough losses but I still like the way we are playing.

Yes we are playing good baseball right now and we actually had 3 good starts by starting pitching which was quite refreshing, but the bullpen has to hold up and do their part. That was the deficiency this weekend.
Dawg83
I think if State wins the Mizzou series they probably host, but why not sweep just to be safe? Right now they’d be the 6 seed in Hoover, as UGA passed them this weekend. Seems highly likely they’ll end up either the 5 or 6. Opponent could be a number of teams (OM, LSU, Florida, Vandy in all likelihood).
Bulldogs4
Really need to sweep Missouri. Simple as that.

We’ll probably take a minor hit even if we win that one via the run rule, so going 4-0 this week is the ideal situation.

The ideal situation is a monsoon hits Starkville on Tuesday and North Alabama stays at home and plays their PlayStations instead. Lol. Bulldogs4
I think the whole deal about a winning a game and dropping in the RPI is just completely ridiculous. Especially late in the season. Obviously there is no way to know exactly how good or bad an opponent is going to be when a schedule is set. Midweek games have to be in your geographical area so you are limited to who you play. Hopefully we play UNA and beat them. They are the next team on the schedule. One way to help would be to play USM three times during the season. Once each in BIX & JAN and then alternate one campus game each season. That way you could eliminate an Alcorn State type and one other weakling on the schedule. Just an idea on my part. Dawg83
Looking at Ole Miss, they are very much still alive for the NCAAT after a huge series win against A&M. At 11-16 now, I think if they manage to win the series in Baton Rouge this weekend, they likely make it in at 13-17 with a Top 25 RPI. If they only win one game and finish 12-18, they will need to do some work in Hoover. LSU is 10-17 and desperately needs to win that series as well, and they could really use a sweep honestly. I don’t see both LSU and OM getting in, I think it’s one or the other, or neither.
David44
Good weekend for Miss State. Could easily have won Friday, against one the best starters in the nation. There were 5 lead changes, just went the Hogs way in the late innings and that's baseball. The offense is fine and good enough to play with anybody now. The 19 runs scored this weekend were the 2nd most Arkansas have given up, behind only the Kentucky series.

Kudos to Schuelke, Auger, and Davis for holding the line. Those three along with Hardin are the only ones in the pen that we can actually count on. I have confidence in no one outside our 3 starters and Auger, Shulke, Hardin and Davis.

With the rain we're getting down here in Picayune today that field in Starkville surely won't be dry tomorrow. They ought to just go ahead and cancel the North Alabama game due to poor field conditions.
Dawg83
Well this is interesting. Nate Dohm is scheduled to start the UNA game tomorrow. I assumed he would not be back. Potentially a major addition to State’s pitching staff for the postseason if he can remain healthy. He was electric in nonconference play. Bulldogs4
Coach was on ST this afternoon and spoke about it. Said he had looked good in practice so he is ready to go. Would be a huge lift to the squad as you noted. Hopefully he will be healthy the rest of the way…

Bulldogs4
Huge game in Hattiesburg tonight. Ole Miss desperately needs to win this game. USM really needs to win as well to keep the momentum going. Something has to give.
