Huge game in Hattiesburg tonight. Ole Miss desperately needs to win this game. USM really needs to win as well to keep the momentum going.
Something has to give.

I feel like USM is safely in the NCAAT now after sweeping the last two weeks, but probably can’t win enough to host with only a few games left. Ole Miss definitely could use a win here.

I agree USM is in good shape but a win tonight helps their seeding greatly.

Ole Miss is in a must win situation. They have to win tonight, win the series this weekend or outright win the SECT next week to get in (IMO).

I know their RPI is solid but a losing conference record with a barely over .500 record is not going to get into a Regional. Gotta be just a bit better than that.

If OM wins tonight and wins two in Baton Rouge I think they are in. Anything less, gonna need to do some good things in Hoover.

If they do that and have a decent showing in Hoover. I would think to be safely in if they win a couple of SECT games.

USM beats Ole Miss. I think they have played themselves from the bubble to a solid 2 seed in recent weeks.

Must win series for OM in Baton Rouge.

State struggled with UNA for six innings but maybe starting to get some distance now. Dohm looked good in a two inning stint.

Ole Miss with a devastating loss tonight.

Short of winning the SECT they are in a tough spot. Have to win two @ LSU then do some damage at Hoover and even then that might not be enough.

State with a solid 8-4 win over UNA.

USM has certainly played themselves into a good spot. Long shot to host since they lost some winnable games during the season. But definitely are going to be a good two seed somewhere.

This could be the year you finally have USM in the Starkville Regional. It’s never happened before. USM has been to Oxford several times and State famously was in Hattiesburg in 2017, but amazingly USM has never played at Dudy Noble in the postseason.

May not necessarily happen though, as I’ve also seen them projected to spots like Athens or Tallahassee.

would the USM fans be allowed about 50 seats ?**********

I know your comment is tongue in cheek but the visiting teams do get an allotment of tickets although I am sure it is very small.

USM fans will be able to purchase GA tickets (if in fact they get sent to State) and obviously that is dependent on State earning a host spot.

I feel like MState is hosting if they win the series this weekend. Certainly could see USM going to Starkville as well.

But I think USM has put themselves back into the hosting conversation for sure. Riding an 8 game winning streak

and closing the season at Pete Taylor this weekend. They won't win the regular season title, but If they make a run

in the Sunbelt tournament, they could get a host. The Sunbelt is  going to finish 4th or 5th in conference RPI.

USM is already way above Louisiana Lafayette in RPI. You would think that league deserves to host a regional,

And Hattiesburg is well respected as a hosting spot already.

State is the #14 seed according to D1 and not hosting according to Baseball America. Suffices to say a sweep this weekend is in their best interest.

Just don’t think the RPI is good enough for USM to host. Three home games against a bad Texas State team won’t help. Feels like they’d probably have to win the Sun Belt tourney and that may not be enough either (see last year).

Agree about USM. Just lost too many winnable games during the season. Even if they win out that might not be enough. Too many teams ahead of them.

State really needs to sweep this weekend and win at least one game in Hoover to feel comfortable about hosting. You just can’t win enough in this day and age.

For Ole Miss & LSU. One honestly needs to sweep the other and then win some games in Hoover if not the whole thing to get in. Two out of three will give one a lifeline but a precarious one at that. The loser is toast barring winning the SECT.

My gut says State does get the sweep they need vs Mizzou. And I have LSU winning 2 of 3 at home, which probably causes both OM and LSU to miss out.

Heard a stat yesterday that a 12-18 SEC team has never made the NCAAT (12-17 has though, I guess that extra loss mattered). 13-17 is very iffy too although there are some that have made it. Usually 14 SEC wins is the magic number but that can include wins in Hoover.

I hope your right, but it would be the most State way to lose the series.

Well, I never said USM was hosting, but that they may be entering the hosting conversation.

Sweep this weekend, win the Sunbelt tourney, and you could be looking at a 14 game winning streak,

and they would be a 40 win team. I still feel that State is hosting if they win the series this weekend.

For what it's worth, D1 baseball and ON3 have them hosting now, Baseball America does not.

If we lose a home series to the second worst team in the league then we do not deserve to host. Period.

You never know, Mizzou has really weird mojo against State in baseball. That 2021 series is one of the biggest “what the heck” weekends I can ever recall. I believe State has lost three series in a row to Mizzou, and two of those State teams went to Omaha. LOL.

Such an odd team to have issues against. Mizzou has never made the NCAA Tourney since they joined the SEC.

Solid win for State, 8-2. USM lost but not that is not necessarily a bad thing. Short of winning the SECT, Ole Miss is done. And it looks like Florida is as well unless they win the Tournament.

Florida won today so they still have life, but need to win tomorrow.

With one day left in the season, we are currently in line for State vs Ole Miss Round 5 on Tuesday. An OM loss tomorrow plus a State win OR Georgia loss locks that in. There may be some tiebreaker possibilities where it plays out differently but as it stands, State can end OM’s season or maybe OM can put a dent in State’s hosting plans (but not necessarily).
