Don’t care for the guy at all. Rode Bower’s players to a great 12-2 year in 2011, left the team with no talent and went to NC. Effectively destroyed the USM football program and it has never recovered.

So maybe he would be welcomed somewhere else but not in Mississippi.

I respect that take. I could see him making an appearance as an OC somewhere

Kiffin to Texas A&M? Seeing this all over twitter

IF A&M throws 100 million guaranteed at Kiffin, I couldn't blame him for taking it.

On the flipside, Kiffin is making ~$9 million per year at Ole Miss with a seat cool as ice right now. Kiffin waiting on a well oiled machine (like when Saban retires at Alabama in a few years) makes more sense to me... but who knows.

Back to A&M, where does Petrino land. Would MSU kick the tires on him?

No chance on Petrino to State. Or at least I think it would be a terrible idea. He’s proven at other stops that he’s not what he was at Arkansas anymore.

Aren’t coaching rumors fun.   Lanning to A&M.  Kiffin to Oregon.  I’ve even seen Mel Tucker mentioned.  Malzhan to Arkansas. And the season isn’t even over yet.
Rumors that A&M cut Jimbo loose now, because they already know who his replacement will be and Jimbo was encouraging players to hit the portal.

Michigan will have Harbaugh reinstated and nobody will care because the SEC is looking for coaches.

This should be the much bigger story, and you're correct... few are paying attention.

While I figure Harbaugh gets reinstated, I also think he makes a jump back to the NFL which opens a huge college job for some coach.

What’s so odd about this whole charade is the coach that should have gotten fired today didn’t.  Who honestly in their right mind wants the death sentence job that is Texas A&M?  I mean heck I’ll take it as long as I can get $100,000 tax free.  Whoever gets it though will be filthy rich after they get fired.

The NFL has said they won’t be a safe haven for Harbaugh to escape punishment.  I don’t know what they could do to him though.  I wouldn’t think they could punish him for something that was an NCAA issue.

I also wonder if the NCAA will penalize the school. As of now, I’m not sure they’re even investigating it further.

Don't think Kiffin goes anywhere, unless his ego gets in the way and he goes chasing a Natty.

As for State, they MUST open the bank and go get a coach that has had success at the power 5 level. Someone that will create excitement for fans and players alike. I for one would like to see them make Kyle Whittingham say no to a 8-10 million dollar contract. He has won everywhere.

State had no choice. The program was plummeting fast. And this is the absolute worst time in modern CFB history for that to happen. I generally liked Arnett as a DC and I know he had a tough act to follow at head coach. But it wasn’t working out remotely.

I’m still firmly in the camp of go hire Curt Cignetti from James Madison. But other quality names would make sense too.

Whit is a Utah lifer at this point.

If you’re looking at P5 names, Jonathan Smith at Oregon State is worth a call given their conference situation.

Personally, I’m not expecting this hire to be a sitting P5 coach. Leach was the only one in State’s history and he was just a different kind of dude, obviously.

I don’t think Dan Mullen part two would work out but at the same time there are some parts of it that would have hilarious potential so I won’t say I’m totally out on the idea. lol.

I dont think Saban is the greatest coach of all time unless he does what Tom Brady did. Saban should come to Miss. State to prove his worth. Win Win situation

I think State definitely needs to get a guy with HFC experience, not necessarily P5 experience. Jamey Chadwell, Curt Cignetti, Mike Elko, Jeff Traylor, Rhett Lashlee are names I believe they could get that would be great hires.

I’d be on board with any of those names. I question how gettable a couple of them are, but that group is a great starting point.

I thought Tom Herman would be more of a factor but FAU has fallen to 4-6 now. I don’t feel like you can sell your fanbase on  that, especially after it didn’t work out with him at Texas. His last really good team was in 2018.

I agree on Herman. Obviously taking over FAU is a different situation than what he inherited at Houston or even Texas. He may need another year or two to really see some change. I think he could potentially be a great name in the next 2-3 cycles based on how he elevates FAU. For some reason, it seems to take coaches who replace Willie Taggart a little time to turn it around for whatever reason.

I think Elko, Chadwell and Lashlee are in situations where they can sort of wait for the right job. All 3 are relatively young (especially Lashlee). Cignetti and Traylor being older coaches may be more inclined to jump on something in my opinion being 62 and 55 respectively. I do like Cignetti though. He has a history of being a really good recruiter (even dating back to his early Bama days) which is something State needs.
